Djokovic W-L record in M1000 finals when he won the opening set was 30-0 coming into this. Djokovic won the opening set. Djokovic had a 0-40 lead on Runes serve in the first game of the second. Djokovic was up a break in the third set. Djokovic had 6 break points in the final game to force a final set tiebreak. Despite all this, Rune somehow won this match. Seriously, how often does that happen? Novak is SO good at making the most of his chances like this, and we know him as the ultimate frontrunner in tennis. Djokovic loses in this fashion perhaps once every 2-3 years. Somehow, in his first ever M1000 final, Rune won the match despite all the chances Novak had. Incredible mental strength this guy has. And now beats 6 time champion Novak in Rome. Saved BP in the final game again.
Pretty sure this is Novak's worst M1000 Finals loss in his career. SO many chances that he threw in the bin. No idea what the hell was wrong with him this day because so many of those chances were just routine putaways shots that he messed up.
Lot of good players doesn't beat 5 top 10 players in their entire career and this man did it in a raw.. actually 6 top 10 guys I would say, considering stan is even better then most top 10 players as a 3 time slam champ.. and that too match points down against stan.. What a legend..👏👌💪
Factually 37 yo Stan isn't a top10 player anymore, even though he is a greater player than Rublev, hurkacz, FAA and that the match against Rune was quite amazing.
@@mishabalakirsky243 sorry to burst your bubble but sinner is on rank 7 and tsitsipas is 5. Sinner didn't even make it to the quarter finals but tsitsipas made it to the quarter finals. Besides, tsitsipas has won most matches against sinner.
Will be good to see Alcaraz vs Rune vs Sinner vs Felix in the next 10 years... And we have Medvedev, Rublev, Zverev and Tsitsipas as well... Sadly, we will miss Rafa, Novam and Fed, which is inevitable
Joker has raised the game and now we have a bunch of guys who can seemingly get to everything and never miss. It’s been a long time since I saw this many players who I think can actually take over at the slams. Several generations failed to stop the Big 3. I want joker to take the slams record since he was cheated out off at least one with the Covid nonsense, but I think he’s going to need to go for more winners than he’s had to in the past. I think Medvedev will too in order to stay on top. They are both superb in terms of consistency and depth of shot, etc but they both play a little too safely at times imo given the current competition. Great match, I like Rune. I’m sure joker is kicking himself for that 3-1 service game in the 3rd. For him though only the slams matter and this is good preparation. Best young group I’ve seen in years in terms of ability, desire and belief that they can win against anyone.
