@@AveMcree No. Sorry to say, , I mean, WTF,,,, REALLY??? No "SHWAGG"...But if you order your AFX BS, SWEETWATER will send some candy and a very cool Sweetwater sticker.
Daniel, I hope it is many, many years before you retire. I remember your initial overview of the BS2 and loved the sounds you got out of it while just noodling around. This time was no different. And I love how you often include an "extra value" SD card loaded with a lot of patches you made. If you don't own Sweetwater, I hope your salary is commensurate with the excellent work you do demonstrating.
who the heck was i trying to kid. "I don't need any more synths" ya right............ This $300-$800 price bracket is really where the action is for me. I can watch iridium or prophet-5 videos and know i cant justify those because i am not pro or rich. But these crazy low end synths...bring it!!!!!
@@jjrusy7438 find a peak for around 1k. so worth it. digitone also awesome, those two cover my hardware synth needs. diva, zebra and phaseplant for everything else
Thanks Alt V7. Like I constantly preach in my Synth Clips tutorials: "Always turn knobs slowly and deliberately while also holding a key. It's the only way to find those sweet spots." Thanks for watching! -_Daniel_ ru-vid.com/group/PLlczpwSXEOybYYaBCTcjxxKz1QmxytbIf
Just pre-ordered mine a few hours back from you guys over at Sweetwater! Chris is my sales rep. and he's awesome! Thanks for the new killer AFX Station Richard D. James and Sweetwater!
Random comment for the love of sweetwater when i got back into producing after 10 years, sweetwater hooked me up with the link to ASIO software so i could record on my uno synth i bought from a music store here in Canada. These guys SELL interface and still hooked a brother up. The music store wanted me to buy more. Sweetwater enabled me. Forever in debt.
@@mikehawk9461 yeah but the point is instead of selling me they showed me a way for free, when my store was DEFS trying take every penny when i already spent all my money on synth
I've had nothing but positive experiences with Sweetwater. Good people there who love music and musicians. They make more money than some other vendors because they take such good care of their customers.
I don't hate Mr Twin but I'm going to upgrade the firmware on my existing BS2 instead of buying the new one with the logo plastered all over it. It IS awesome that Novation continues to add features to this bad boy! It was already an awesome synth before the new firmware.
I've had my BS2 since shortly after it was released in what.. 2013? It's still one of my favorite synths.. It's small yet so versatile! Having this version with all of the functionality described on the panel is handy for newcomers. Every time I want to switch to AFX mode, I have to go and look up how to do it again.. lol
I just bought a Hydrasynth from you guys ahhhhhhhh! Looks like I have to take another look at my bank account to see if this can fit next to my Hydra...
Outstanding performance as always Daniel! I have a very important question: Does the knobs, especially the cutoff knob, have a "parameter snap" mode? Suppose I have preset 12 and turn the cutoff down and switch to preset 14 whose cutoff is set to 12 o'clock, then the sound would jump when I move the cutoff. To avoid this, there is a special knob mode that will not intervene until you reach the stored value.
It was available for quite some time now. Bass Station II with AFX firmware. it's the same synth, they just redesigned the front plate and charge 60 pounds more for it... lool
Hi Audio Artisan. Even after the limited edition is sold out, the firmware will also work on the BassStation II in exactly the same way. Thanks for watching! -_Daniel_
Great first synth to learn subtractive analog synthesis in my opinion! It's versatile enough to keep you busy for a while, but not overwhelmingly complex. And it sounds great, so it will still have a place in your setup once you advance. Just keep in mind it's paraphonic, so it won't really do chords. Have fun!
Do these models actually bring anything new compared to the old Bassstation 2, that has full firmware updates? Because AFX mode was already a thing before as far as I know.
Its just the bass station updated to the latest firmware. This is just a facelift. I bought it as I didn’t have a bass station myself and really like the purple. No reason to change if you have a bsii already, though.
Just curious...could sweetwater do software upgrades on the regular bass stations to clean out that stock? that could help out some folks dying to get this.(i used to sell stereos and electronics so i still think that way sometimes, also i'm set on getting a typhon next, so i'm not weaseling here lol) I have mentioned before, that i have heard over the years that a bass station is a really good starter analog on its own. This was a great move by novation. same with arturia's microfreak round 3. new value in existing production is a beautiful thing. Similarly, we korg fanboys stay on the korg people about loading our own wavestate samples, non-stop. They might be starting to bend heh. There is a usb port and nice brains/memory already, so same deal for the wavestate.
Hi jjrusy. It's very easy for Bass Station II owners to update their Firmware with a download from novationmusic.com so that it gains all of the functionality of an AFX Station. Thanks for watching! -_Daniel_
Did this thing ever go on sale? It went from "Coming Soon" and then check it again it states "Sold Out"...never saw it actually for sale. Was there a pre-order required? They probably should've asked for pre-orders if there was going to be so few of them released.
Showing "Sold Out"...which means they produced very few...sort of a rip-off. I haven't heard of a limited edition that had this much hype but produced so few, not since the production of those Orange NI Maschine systems.
Sounds just like the mini nova cold and metally. Exactly the same. Looks like the only difference is you don't have to dive through menus more hands on control.
Hi General General. The features shown in the video are available to any Basstation II when updated with the current software. Thanks for watching! -_Daniel_
Hi Diego. The video is in stereo, but the AFX Station (Bass Station II) is a Monophonic, Monaural synthesizer. There are sections in the video where I'm using a stereo delay pedal but, whenever that pedal is off, the sound is monaural. Thanks for watching! -_Daniel_
Why is this "Hybrid"? The Novation site doesn't say that. The original bass station II had analog oscillators and filters. Does this have digital oscillators like the Peak?
Dude, this is literally Bass Station II with different front plate colors and AFX firmware pre-installed. You can buy BSII for 60 pounds less and install the firmware yourself...
@@Strepite all the new features added via firmware are now on front panel. cost justification is obviously going to be subjective & personal here, but for someone buying a new BS2 today in 2020 .. they now have the option to buy the original BS2 from 7 years ago, and keep cheat sheet nearby to access the new features, or just buy the new one with the new features clearly labelled on the front panel.
@@bitroast You can just print the new label and tape it over the old one and it's 100% identical... Idk, I am disappointed, was expecting something new to come out in collab with AFX...
@@Psychlist1972 Hybrid is probably just referring to the synth being digitally controlled analogue synth, with DCOs + digital control. I think the Oscillators are digital, not analog. fael-downloads-prod.focusrite.com/customer/prod/s3fs-public/novation/downloads/6797/bassstationiiuserguideen.pdf "Based on the classic 1990s Novation Bass Station synth, it combines traditional analogue waveform generation and processing with the power and fl exibility of digital control, plus a set of effects and presets for the 21st century." "• Classic analogue waveform generation • Two multi-waveform oscillators plus separate sub oscillator • Analogue signal path - filters, envelopes, modulation" www.soundonsound.com/reviews/novation-bass-station-2 "Like the original, its oscillators are DCOs rather than VCOs and anyone who takes this information as justification to flounce away like a wounded teenager could be missing out. " novationmusic.com/en/news/bass-station-story "Bass Station’s signature sound was achieved using flexible, digitally-controlled oscillators (DCO’s), classic waveforms and a warm analogue 12db / 24db filter, combined with a modern twist: real-time MIDI transmission."
It's the same firmware, only differences are a different set of preset sounds, the top panel graphics include text so the updated firmware options aren't "hidden" & it's a different color scheme..
@@tomheylen there's no need for an A/B Comparision. it's the same synth. it's the front panel that's been updated to accomodate the new features that've been added in the past 7 years. a lot of the new features have been accessible via Shift + Key presses and it's essentially impossible to know how to access any of the features without a cheat sheet nearby. the new front panel design brings the new features that have been added via firmware to the forefront and easily accessible.
I have never played the BS2, nor this newer version, but watching this demo, I see the keys look very wobbly as Daniel is playing... Really disturbing to see such side to side movement... I would really like to hear from others that have played or own this synth, about the quality of the keybed.
