Novation Circuit Mono Station Test Drive

A short test drive of the all new Circuit Mono Station..... It's INCREDIBLE!
Two Oscillators ties to 2 mono sequencers independent pitch control in Paraphonic mode (they share the same filter and amp)
True Analogue (yes that's how I spell Analogue....) sound with 4 oscillator types, ring mod, noise and Sub Oscillator. Modulate-able PWM of course!
Heat up your tracks by processing external audio through the filter and distortions via audio input... turn up that heat by sequencing the filter, modulations and distortions.
CV/Gate and additional Aux CV (- modulation matrix and mod sequence destination) for sequencing and controlling your external CV gear
Full MIDI sequencing with MIDI in/out and THRU :o)

Oh man this is so good! I had a Bass Station 2 on my shopping list... but hell, it's now been replaced. There are so many possibilities with this... I really can't wait to get one. Great demo by the way! Cheers!

Excellent video! Great sequences for an example of the complexity of the filter and the distortion harmonics... Doing the high and low oscs like that, sounds great.

what do I need to get for the two circuits to link up? How do I sync them together in terms of timing? Do you have both going into a mixer separately ? Awesome video by the way, im getting a mono station tonight!

But of course... :o) It can play nicely although I'd personally prefer for it to not play nicely and smash the TR-8 up through the Audio input of the CMS. The Mono Station is a perfect partner to rough-up any "nice" drum machine.

This isn't my first look, but it's my first real look! Excellent job. You can't change midi channels on the Circuit, any clue if that's possible with the Mono Station?

This is an amazing demo, I was struggling to see it's reason for being created, and for owning one and if it would go with my current Circuit, this has convinced me to put it on my pull list! I notice that you have the audio in, and out connected on the MonoStation. Were you feeding the audio out from the Circuit into the Mono Station?

I think that audio in is a stroke of genius on Novation's part. In addition to all the cool things this Mono Station can do, it's now also an effects processor. I would buy it even without the audio in, but with the audio in, it's definitely at the very top of my shopping list. And it doesn't cost an arm, leg and maybe a kidney.

yeah i agree - its great having that audio in. plus its other inputs outputs really makes this a great part of a set up - i was gonna sell my circuit until this came out - then - no chance - brilliant companion, that makes it better as a synth as well! it doesnt just add to the workflow to make it more of an upgrade to creating beats - it improves the circuits sound.

Yeah this is a volca killer, it has such a great sequencer in it I'm assuming it has patterns and sessions in it. I love the circuit as a sequencer, but to have its own built in synth, it's perfect.... next we need a novation launchpad sized circuit. Not enough patterns per session in the current layout.

setphaser yes it's a great instrument and a lot of fun to use. The Patterns page is now in and there are 16 patterns for OSC 1 and 8 for OSC 2 + mod sequence each. The patterns setting page lets you get even more out of the sequence too. There are triplets, ¼ and x4 clock speeds for each pattern with variations inbetween. Alongside pattern direction etc. I'm positive you'll not be disappointed with the sequencers capabilities

They've obviously realised they needed more patterns, that's great, I guess this one could sequence other stuff too... I think I'll wait for the inevitable circuit pro, more patterns!!!

Jollo Jakar I honestly like two separate boxes. Helps people transition quicker if they want and helps those on a budget. Image one 900.00 dollar super box? This way people can buy one or the other or both. ☺️

Just imagine if they added a drum track. All the pads are there, the sequencer, etc. If you want a modern all-in-one groovebox, the options are limited and mediocre (Eletribe2).

Been planning on picking up a circuit very soon, but now seeing this.... Does the mono station put together beats though?

Nic Martel Circuit mono station is an analogue mono synth with sequencer. You can make drum sounds and drum patterns with it as with any synth but it's not a sampler. It's a wonderful addition to Circuit though. I'd defos recommend getting both, but of course I'd say that ;o)

Nice demo! Can the patterns be 8 bars long like the Circuit? And Can you store the sounds that you've made on the Mono Station? And finally...where's the famous golden watch? ;-)

det rechter thanks! Patterns pages are due to come soon and yes there will be lots of pattern chaining stuff getting in there. The Patterns setting page is brilliant. Different speeds of pattern including.... TRIPLETS. Start and end points for patterns too. Yes yes, there will be lots of patterns stuff

its an anolouge synth - so it makes its own sound - so no. having both circuits creates a good set up - sequencers, sampler , drum machine, analouge leads, cv aux cv , midi in out thru , gate in out. ideally a drum machine version will come out and then allow us to utilse all channels on circuit for sample switching . (full on digi synth only) so we have full on digi synth, analouge and drum machine all working in harmony)

I love the original Circuit but this isn't that impressive really, esp for the price. Like you say the Volca Bass can do more (OK without the nice grid & pretty lights) and costs £100

Really interested to know what more it can do? can it sequence MIDI externally? can it send CV? Does it have Osc sync? can you process audio through it's SVF and distortions? Sorry for the questions, I've never played on a Volca Bass so I genuinely don't know.

No Swing on the Volca Bass always made it kind of unusable for me. Love the Bass Station II though.

+cresshead It's really nothing at all like the Volca Bass. The Volca Bass has no: presets, modulation matrix, sequencer for both notes and automation, MIDI out, swing - the list goes on.
