Bought MINI-MK3 keyboard and it is not working as expected. I press the SHIFT and only 2 orange and 1 green pads light up/ This is not what I saw in the tutorial vid. Cannot change modes with SHIFT. I tried to contact Novation 3 times and they completely ignorred it. No response of any kind. Tried the factory reset, but no luck. i have this exact keyboard its great , i love it. could you make a follow up video on how to program the knobs? and how to do all the cool effects with them? great video!
I just bought that keyboard today at guitar center and I’ll be getting it in 3 to 5 working days. But it doesn’t have a volume knob can you program one of those knobs for volume.
Hey there! The sounds all come from your daw (ableton, fl, protools, etc) so what u can do it midi map a volume fader in ur daw to a knob on ur keyboard :)
Hey Autumn! How did you connect the Launchkey midi to your laptop? I’m reading everywhere that it doesn’t come with the cable and that it’s impossible to buy as it’s quite a unique kind? Thank you !!
Thanks for the review. do you think I should return AKAI Professional MPK Mini MK3 and buy Launchkey MK3 instead? I have 30 more days to try it out. singing up to get the MPC Beats was a NIGHTMARE. and after getting 1 plugin (a seperate sign up) for the other plugins I was asked either money or a CC for license. I mean WTF!? all this signing up with 3-4 sites and now i gotta pay? like i said... NIGHTMARE I think maybe I will just try my best to learn this free DAW, and then return Akai if I'm still not feeling it i'm totally new and am really frustrated with how i dunno anything about making music. and the fact that I can't control Ableton with this thing. but #1 reason why I got is is cuz Akai has a Velocity On/Off switch and Launchkey Mini doesnt... but i heard there is a way around in DAW like in effects i think. but then i also read that LAUNCHKEY feels like cheap plastic, the keys at least. i never thought making music can be this hard. i dunno whether to stick with Akai or jump ship while i still have the chance...
I thought MPC beats was confusing too. But thankfully, u don’t need to use MPC beats with your keyboard! You can use a different daw! There’s ableton lite you can try out for free! I would highly recommend the trial of ableton intro as well. Or any other daw besides mpc beats lol Don’t feel like u need to return the akai! Before the launchkey I had the akai mpk mini mk2 for years and I can tell you it’s more about you learning your craft in your daw (for me it’s ableton) than it is about your gear. Making music is challenging, but if you love it, don’t give up! Hope this helps
Hi Autumn. I currently have the Push 2 and love it. The one functionality i love so much is the ability to Preset loop length now i want a Novation MK3 mini to take away with me to work outside or in the park etc and also live looping when i busk, does this facility exist in the Novation, as i tried it with my Arturia Key Lab and its a mission to get things right on the fly. Maybe you can shed some light here
great review! this looks nice. what used to take me 2 controllers to do (across my AKAI APCkey25 + AKA MPK mini mk2), i can now do with 1! also -- any idea how long the Capture MIDI buffer is? (i.e. in notes, bars, or time)
Thanks for the feedback! On the ableton site it says “whenever 16384 events are reached, the oldest 1024 events are discarded”. I think by events it means midi notes, which if that’s the case it goes on for a good bit! So if you are playing around for like 10 minutes and then suddenly realize u played something u want to keep, it’s gonna show you the most recent of what you played and discard the oldest notes. Pretty useful! Love capture midi!
@@AutumnGardMusic Thanks for looking it up, that helps. Usually playing one note and letting it go counts as two events -> Note ON and Note OFF. I would assume a knob twist could also generate dozens of events per twist (as seen when recording automation, and each 'dot' would be an event). Cool feature to have in hardware! I use Ableton's capture often, and wish all other DAWs had it...
I love this review... I went into the "Components App" and I noticed that they have Chords and Scales that you can assign to your pads which is awesome.. Just cant find an unrushed video to elaborate more on this... eg. can you download different scales and chords and if you can toggle through them on the fly?....
Thank you so much for the feedback! I really appreciate it! As for your question, honestly I might be misunderstanding it and don’t want to give u the wrong info lol I’ll have to do a bit of research on this to make sure and maybe I’ll make a video on it! 😄
@@AutumnGardMusic my fault lol I figured out the chords thing... The mystery now is to find out if theres a way to switch to different "Custom Modes" while in the DAW without having to manually do it inside "Components" when busy creating... Thanks for the insight thus far tho.. really appreciate it... stay safe👌
what is the value of the chord feature? I mean, if they all in major scale, then why would one need them? Both minor and major scales include major and minor chords. Without a possibility to set the scale or choose between minor and major cords the feature is almost useless.
The 25, like it’s bigger brothers(?) has real pitch/mod wheels, more sophisticated chord modes, a smart scale mode and better key bed. It also has more buttons so there is less “shifting” to get at functions. If those features are important, and you don’t need portability, it’s better than the mini. But if you have enough space , I would go for the 37, as it’s only slightly wider than the 25 and costs just 20€ more. I got the 25 and now wish I got the 37…
Hey Im new to the production scene, so im pondering whether to buy this or Akai mpk mini play, and I wanted to know if this novation works so that the macbook (or any laptop) isnt plugged in with a charger, meaning that the device gets its power only from laptop battery. Akai one can be given AA batteries, so it works on its own, but i like this one more :) Cheers from Finland
Oh yeah I understand that but does the laptop need to be charging while using the midi? Thanks for answering! You see I like to go camping without a place to have external electricity, so i cannot have laptop plugged into wall whole the time, thus Im curious and I would like if the midi works also then
