Novation Mininova CLASSIC SYNTH Preset Demo 

I want to learn more about edm music in general, I want to find my own style. I don't have much knowledge of synths, but would you recommend this for someone wanting to get into edm?

thedude Yes and no. A lot of those EDM sounds are made with Serum and other super powerful VSTs. This synth is capable of only SOME of the sounds those VSTs can make.

@@HotStrange Yeah, this synth seems to be more like an introduction to synthesizers. However it depends on personal preferences with what you want to make your music with. Some are into virtual synths, some are completely DAWless. After all EDM is very broad notion.

I have put a couple of these out over the last year or so, but we do so many different videos a week it's hard to keep up with everything, I will do a few more though for the other sounds sooner rather than later

@@TheSoundTestRoom i have a problem with my own one as in it seems to skip preset sounds. Some seem to have dissappeared as in if I for instance press preset sound bass 1 I then find it goes to preset bass style 3 seeming to skip the preset 2. I cannot seem to find a few of the presets as they seem to jump to a different number up if you get me. Do you have any idea of what the problem is? Thanks

No it has a stereo Headphone jack.

These are all factory presets, if you have a Mininova you already have them.

Things to remember are is that it has small keys, it doesn't have ant sliders, and is hard to dig in and program from scratch because it has a lot of menus and a small screen, but it does have a lot of assignable knobs and switches

It has less knobs but those 4 knobs serve a different purpose depending on where the side thingy is. It doesn’t give you the immediate control than if there was more knobs, but it is rather small.

You can play without anything, ex power ofc :)

Is it hiding an inbuilt speaker then ?

RealSTYLISHx no, it has microphone and amp inputs in the back. It has no built in speaker. With a good amp, this synth has an unbelievably powerful engine for such a small synth.

No synths don’t usually have loopers. Has an arp though.

You arpeggiate by flipping the silver knob in the downwards direction and the 8 pads act flash a different color to indicate what note you are on.

Alabaster Smidge, I like it. The sounds cover a wide sonic variety and you also have the option to program your own. Modulation is super easy. The keys are a bit too small for comfort and respond to velocity only - not aftertouch. I've read that the engine does respond to aftertouch when controlled externally though, so if you specifically need it just use a MIDI controller to play those parts. One of the best features of this synth is that it is designed to be integrated into a DAW setup. It can send and receive data through its USB power cord, so just connect it to your computer and you're off. There are some free patch banks out there to load into Bank C (the storage for custom sounds). There is also a computer-based sound editor which works within your DAW (in my case, GarageBand). I would recommend buying new, but from eBay rather than a store. There is bundled software with a new model - Ableton Live Lite and Novation's Bass Station plugin. I got a "B Stock" model and I think it was $350 for the keyboard and a 2-year warranty combined, with free shipping.

There are actually 2 supernova sound packs available on Novation's website that you can install on a Mininova or Ultranova if you simply want a Supernova for its sound. I haven't tested it myself, because I don't own a Mininova _yet_ , but judging from the demo, it sounds nice. Plus, its free. us.novationmusic.com/soundpacks *you have to scroll down a bit*

pianoman73 that's it's only real weakness. They are a bit small. But it's worth trying to get used to.

I quite liked the small keys. I’m a guitar player so these keys seem perfect. And I have lanky long fingers, so that’s not an issue for me. I see how someone with fatter fingers would have issues.
