My GOD! The sound starting at 5:15 is frikkin’ magical! Once again you’ve done it Sir Daniel Fisher, your demos are my first stop whenever a new synth is about to be dropped :)
Dear Daniel, you have sold me more synths than I can count. You’re a great synthesizer player I’ve seen to date. The sounds you pull out of these tools are simply amazing. I wish U wud make instructional videos so I could learn more from you. Your biggest fan, Noël Avalos!
Hi Noel Avalos. You comment touched me so deeply that I've made an entire series of synthesizer instructional videos called "Synth Clips" just for you. You can find them at: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6uPBAj72pvw.html It's OK if you want to share the link with other synth friends :-) -_Daniel_
This is really a outstanding Synthesizer! The Combination of Digital Ozillators with analogue Filters... is such amazing... I love this Maschine😍And i never give up... for nobody... Thanks Daniel for this Great Demonstration👍👍👏👏
Love the BIG sound starting at the 9 minute mark! A well designed User Interface! Novation is going to sell a TON of the Summit. What a great value! Sweetwater adds value to anything you buy from them. Daniel Fisher is an example of some of the people that SW employs. SW also provides an additional 2 year warranty on hardware they sell. Free shipping in the US.
Thank you SW / DF / AV folks! The problem with this, and your other demos, is they are too short. Thank you again for the awesome playing sir - cheers!
Good point. We have the product demos, we have the deep dives and synth techniques demos, but we need a “Daniel Just Plays Stuff” series. Kind of like Nick Batt’s “Friday Fun” vids on the Sonic State YT channel.
Yeah, that's what sealed the deal for me. The one thing holding me back on Summit was that most demos sounded very modern and effects-y. And that's great, don't get me wrong, but I would hate to not be able to dial in your synth staples like this one.
i have to agree with most people, you know your stuff, you should if you dont already do courses in a class room, you would earn a good living, excellent stuff my friend
Hi Brian. Be sure to check out my series of synthesizer tutorials called "SYNTH CLIPS". I've already made 20 of them, and will be making more soon. Be sure to write topic requests for future episodes (just comment on any of Synth Clips videos). ru-vid.com/group/PLlczpwSXEOybYYaBCTcjxxKz1QmxytbIf Thanks for watching! -_Daniel_
Oh My, its the modern DW8000. This is the hybrid I have been waiting for. On the more basic patches, it certianly has that character. So when mine dies, I will have something to replace it with.
Officially the Peak isn't a rackmount.. although it's almost unbelievable they didn't think of racking it when they designed it in that form factor :P Thankfully there's 3rd party ears for it now though I think. Summit was a great idea for the keyboard version
Hi Ramon, and B.I.G., I totally consider ending on the 1-chord with an added 2 and #4 (but no b7) a great way to finish off a "brand logo" type of song. If you listen for it, you'll find that lots of movie production logo themes end that way. Thanks for watching!
Sweetwater ok I see what you were going for and by the way I’m not trying to be a musical snob. I thought it was a great info for the Novation “Summit” very creative. Thanks for the reply Enjoy what’s left of this summer. And when you get around to it can we get that 2nd installment for the Digitone Keys. I’m getting ready to dive into that machine later this week
Hi marcwalravens. I have a free synth tutorial series called SYNTH CLIPS: ru-vid.com/group/PLlczpwSXEOybYYaBCTcjxxKz1QmxytbIf Plus my SYNTH STRATEGIES series: ru-vid.com/group/PLlczpwSXEOyZ89Z_iJvcc2rGk0gw3M_I3 You can also find every video I've ever made by searching "Daniel Fisher Sweetwater" in RU-vid: ru-vid.com?search_query=daniel+fisher+sweetwater&sp=CAI%253D -_Daniel_
Had a Novation Peak, but sold all my synthesizers in 2018. Bought the Waldorf Quantum this summer, wonder if the summit will go where the Quantum can not? So far the only other have to get synthesizer feels like the DS OB-6 Damn nice sounding machine.
Rikard Latvala I have both Quantum and OB 6 and can vouch the OB 6 is very lush and like nothing else, the oscillators and filter are beautiful sounding. I think the pro 3 looks like another must have too. I keep coming back to the Summit simply because it’s sounds great on the demos. Very tempting but maybe overkill when you own the magnificent Quantum.
"Now it's time to play it..." First sound is literally what you'd hear if Dracula played an old organ and you stumbled into his castle in Transylvania. ...And this alone is enough to sell me.
This might be a stupid question... Will any sustain pedal work for the novation summit or do i need to buy a specific one? Can you make a tutorial showing how to choose what effects an expression pedal modulates when used? New to synth's and any help would be greatly appreicated!
Hi Jack. The Summit can auto-detect a footswitch's polarity, so pretty much any Sustain Pedal will work in either of the two jacks. The Expression Pedal should be a non-Yamaha type. Here are my videos about Expression Pedals: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KUHcKYffQgI.html and ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fcc8scMQIrE.html -_Daniel_
Hi joeyxl3456. The L/R Outs are going directly to the Zoom F8N Multitrack Field Recorder mentioned in the above Info section. There's also a link there if you want to learn more about it. Thanks for watching!
Dear Daniel. I’m always in awe of your synth skills. I saw all the wonderful sound you pulled out of the Peak b4. What I need to know is if you can pull specific Oberheim OBX & OBXa sounds out of the Summit. I love the sounds of Van Halen’s 1984 album, & Rush’s Moving pictures albums. I’m not 100% sold on DSI OB6 as I’ve owned both the OBXa & Prophet 600’s in the past. To me the OB6 sound just isn’t up to par. That being said. Thank you in advance, and I’m thinking the Novation Summit might just be the ticket for me. Please tell me honestly if you think the Summit is capable of getting the sounds I need, & mentioned?
Excellent synth (and excellent demo anyway). What I missed a little were ‘analog’ bread & butter sounds. Does the Summit have something like the oscillator slop known from Prophets? Otherwise I’m afraid the FPGA oscillators would sound too stable.
Hi Rayy"s Musikladen. There are two parameters for this: Drift and Diverge. They are used to create the "slop" found in older oscillators. Thanks for watching! -_Daniel_
what are the fundamentals useful to learn to become proficient in synths. how can one learn about them and their parameters... all the knobs & sht lol ? ?
Honestly no. The moog one has one of the most sterile, uninteresting sounds I've heard on an analog poly, not to mention really bad bugs in the firmware
I went to a synth expo IN LA and they were the only two synths that sounded AMAZING. The textures of the sounds are so rich. Way different league than everything else displayed.
That’s my set-up (big-boi keyboards, anyway) … Matriarch, Summit, Rev2, Pro 3, and my old MS2000B 🙂👍🏼 Not many bases left uncovered (lots of eurorack interaction, even), tho’ a Hydrasynth would give me a more modern fully-digital sound, and that all-important Poly-AT keyboard … 🤤
Christopher Roland If you want classic vintage tones, go for the Rev2. If you want to experiment with brand new sonic capabilities with FM and wavetable, go for the summit.
Christopher Roland The build quality of the Summit is much better than the Rev2. I'm not a big fan of the Rev 2, but I am a fan of Sequential. I would get one of their higher priced synths if I were to get another another Sequential synth.
Another good performance stage synth idea, but too much money for my studio, I think for studio I would combine a Roland Sys8 and a Korg MinilogueXD for about the same money.
Between the 2, I would chose Matriarch. I have one on the way. But I’m heavily considering adding this and have a simple but effective 2 synth set up. They’re really 2 completely different synths with different purposes.
i'm in the same place. Either would be pricey so I can't do both. My big question is, can I live without presets? I had a Vermona Performer and at least you didn't have to patch it. That might be part of the allure, but never seeing that patch again? I've had patch based synths since I bought a Poly61 in 1985. I really don't think I can go backwards. I'm sick of all the tech stuff I have to do to record my one man band. Now I have to program it with wires too?> That said, the sound of the Matriarch is perfect. A fun time to be alive in the synth world.
No contest. Peak hands down. The only thing the DM12 has on this is the price and the FX section. And I’m saying that as a former DM12 owner. Sold it because it was too limiting. This is the synth I’ve been waiting for.
I will add the sequencer is handy in the DM12 especially for sequencing parameters. And there are some fun under the hood options. But for sound, user interface, playability, overall badassery this synth beats Dm12 In my opinion.
I'm sorry, but there is no way I could justify $2200 for 1 synth. It sounds great tho. Not $2200 great (does anything really?), but still some nice sounds
The Rev2 is an excellent analog synth, but somehow limited compared to the Summit. They perfectly complement each other. I’m gonna have them both by mid September - I hope.
@@_User333 I won’t get the Rev2. I’ve had it since April 2018. And it is not really “inferior”, just not as versatile. It can, however, produce huge pads and even CS80-like sounds. I’d rather use the Summit as a replacement for my crappy Prophet X, i.a.w. the crazy stuff (FM, wave tables etc.) and hook up the Rev2 for analog (more or less) bread & butter sounds.
@@RayyMusik Ah ok. Sounds like youre well versed on the gear and quite a bit in your studio for a while. The Prophet X is fairly new and you could sell it which would easily cover the cost of the Summit plus a good 4-voice synth.
I have a question. What does having two Peaks add to the Peak party? The Peak seems to have enough polyphony as it stands. I suppose it has the keyboard too. Thanks.
Hi MSH. It's not so much about having more polyphony... It's the instant magical results you get when you blend two different synth patches at the same time. That's one of the things that made the Yamaha CS-80 the legendary synth that it is.
