April and May are traditionally the two hottest months in Thailand.
But this year the temperatures have been hitting record levels! It's not just the basic temperature, it's the combination with the humidity that makes it feel like 56 Degrees Celsius or 129 degrees Fahrenheit.
Would extreme temperatures like this make you think twice before coming to Thailand? Join BC as he walks down a very hot Beach Road in Pattaya, to find out what being going on, and what can be done about it!

Brilliant walk and talk BC! Like the news clips added and discussed. Yes, yesterday finally broke the Hot Spell with some rain! More thunderstorms are predicted for the near future thankfully. Nighttime inside a massage shop or a massage cubicle is a great way to spend a cool hour or two. I chose to walk the other day to Pattaya Tai, then up the hill to the condo and was near heat exhaustion likely...water and a shower did the trick. Next time i will spend 30 baht on a bolt motorbike!

Thanks, Ric. What's a bit of heat stroke or heart attack if you can save 30 Baht on a Bolt? 😀 Been thinking of making that video for a few days and the first rumble of thunder seemed to be as I was walking down the road! Yesterday was lovely and much cooler. But today seems to be back to it'd hot and humid self! Maybe I need another walk and talk to guarantee a downpour?! Catch you later, mate!Thanks for the support!

Planning to come back again in November and get out by the end of March before the real heat hits. Top up the tan, avoid the European winter, go on my bike early morning, lots of water, then a good swim and later in the afternoon rehydrate with Leo! Not a bad plan methinks!!

Wow, John. Sounds like you've got it totally sorted there! November to March are the best months by far weather wise. And staying 4-5 months means you've got plenty of time to get out and about!

Speaking for myself as a Canadian. No, it can never be too hot. or too humid. I have been to Pattaya Many times. and I have never used the A.C. just the Fan or ceiling fan in my rental. I do feel sorry for anyone who passes away during the heat wave.

That's interesting PFI. I'm amazed you can go completely without the aircon. I always try to use only fans (!), but often that ends up making me hotter!! Yes, people really shouldn't be dying from the heat in 2024. Very sad.

After 3 weeks of cold weather, we just had one fine day yesterday here in Paris, so, I'm longing for hot weather... I'm flying to Bangkok in two weeks. Don't know if I'll get very hot weather with blue sky or early start of the rainy season. Might get both while I stay there😂
@balloonchaser
@balloonchaser Месяц назад
Believe it or not rainy season seems to have started this morning with a big downpour and storm. But being in Thailand it only lasted an hour or two and now everything is clearing up nicely. So even though you have to be prepared for rain on your trip, you'll still likely get loads of hot weather and have a great time!

Youre right. Same the whole region over. The humidity is a bit of a killer! By a stroke of luck, we had a big storm today, and the temperature reading dropped to 28. It felt really good! 👍

I’ve just got back after three weeks during songkran. Yes it was hot and can understand when you live there it may get annoying. Although on my holiday I welcomed it as the uk has been really cold. I’ve been to pattaya during the rainy season many times and it can rain for 3 or 4 days non stop. Now that really means you have to stay in Your room or a bar. Plus wade through waist high soi buakhoaw. I know what I prefer
@balloonchaser
@balloonchaser Месяц назад
That's true. If I was on holiday, I don't think I'd worry too much about too much sunshine. Especially if I was visiting during a UK winter. Interesting, since I posted the video, we've had a big downpour, and I'm considering a new career as a rainmaker! 😀

Hi BC - at least back in Brum there is a very cold wind blowing across St Andrew's at the moment....☹😭😱 but in Pattaya as we were there in March, it did feel that it was getting warmer than usual - we spent mornings in the swimming pool & midday to 3pm we stayed in the room with the aircon on...definately not had to do that before in previous years. I believe it is a sign of things to come. One question - regarding Electricity - I have never understood why Thailand doesn't have much more solar panels to generate electricity? Infrastructure issues?
@balloonchaser
@balloonchaser Месяц назад
Hi David. I had noticed there was a deep depression settled in over St Andrews. Strangely over at Aston, it's sunny most days! I think the evidence is that South East Asia is hotting up, not unlike the picture in other parts of the world. You'd think solar energy might be an answer. But apart from producing for own consumption (for which the set up costs are relatively high), I haven't seen much appetite for it. The PEA (electricity authority) has set the buy back price for "excess" energy at the low end of the scale, so bluntly there's probably not any profit in it when compared with other forms of energy here. Interesting point!

I do like it hot. Whatever discomfort I may personally have to endure is more than offset by the pleasure derived from watching obese guys in camo shorts and Chang vests struggle along the road oozing rivers of sweat. If your body in in good condition, it is not all that bad. My time in China acclimatized me to those conditions.
@balloonchaser
@balloonchaser 2 месяца назад
Thanks, David. Maybe that's the reason I'm not coping as well with it this year as previous years. My body is not in as good condition! And I thought it was the record temperatures and humidity. Oh well! 😀

@@user-dj6hu9gq4t I have not met anything like that In Thailand. In India, there have been cases though. The temperatures in Thailand are really not that bad. Central China is far hotter and for a more sustained time each summer.

Its been roasting mate. I don't stay in the house with the AC on but my wife and kids do. I use the AC when sleeping only. I sit on my sala in the shade with a fan on full blast mind you. I think the AC makes it worse when coming outside. Fair enough though, this is the hottest I have felt.
@balloonchaser
@balloonchaser 2 месяца назад
We're the same, same, but different, Toby! I have the aircon on during the day, but turn it off when I go to bed and sleep next to a fan! Aircon dries my throat, I feel. Been like that for years. Until the past few days when I've woken up in the night too hot and been forced to turn on the aircon. It's definitely getting hotter!

My sister just sent me some pictures of newly born lambs jumping around the Welsh hillsides! I can do without the cold nights, though. Thanks for your comment and support as always!
