Now is the time to LEASE an EV!

There are tax incentives available to purchase a new electric car, but not a ton of models qualify. If you lease an EV, however, you have a lot more options from which to choose. Additionally, automakers have the ability to pass along instant savings at the time of purchase, which means there are going to be some great EV lease deals hitting the market.

Despite the tax credit, its really not a great time to lease because financing companies have substantially increased the money factor and, at the same time, reduced the residual value of the car. I have not seen dealer's significantly discounting the purchase price of any EV's either... in some cases additional markup is added to the msrp.

What is not being discussed is the elephant in the room. Which is that you have to go through dealers who want to take part, or all, of the $7,500 for those leases. They disguise it as "market conditions" or "addons" you didn't ask for, or "dealer fees," but anyway you slice it you won't get anywhere the full rebate, if any at all. It's not like Tesla or Rivian where the consumers gets to keep the full $7,500.

You left out the Nissan Ariya. I just leased this car and I was able to apply the $7500 to the lease. Thanks nissan aka tax payer aka me!

I didn't leave it out, it doesn't qualify if you PURCHASE it... but if you lease, it certainly does, like in your case which further helps solidify my point on why leasing is a good option at the moment. And congrats on the Ariya, are you enjoying it?

A “used vehicle under $25k” does not answer dilemma I am getting from a dealer. He says it is the “asking” price as original chosen by the dealer, and tax credit is not controlled by the final OTD purchase price. So a dealers sale price posted of $25,001 would NOT qualify for getting used clean vehicle tax credit, even if the dealer knocks off one dollar. 1:54 Dealer is adamant despite me sending copy of federal law/notices.

Depends, they are some good reason to lease, but, if you are following the ev pump writer and want the ev tax credit break of not paying up to 7,500 you are a dummy and will Be used as a fool. It's just take a few minutes to do that math even if they tell you will get the ev credit and show you that. Still the 7,500 can be Divided into 48 or 60 month that only about just over 100 a month added to your payment. Dealer want this tax credit and are smart enough to get it as they aren't much ev in stock. Ev aren't selling.

Why would you lease when you can buy? $7,500 Tax Credit is much more appealing when purchasing.
@AutoTrader
@AutoTrader Год назад
The entire point of the video is about how a lot of cars no longer qualify for the credit under the purchase requirements. When you lease, the list of cars that qualify is far larger.

@@AutoTrader then why say you should LEASE instead of buy, misleading video title
@AutoTrader
@AutoTrader Год назад
Honest, question - did you watch the video? Many more Leased vehicles can still get the credit; that's the whole point. If you lease, the automaker can apply the 7500 credit directly to your vehicle as a downpayment that could lower your monthly payment.

@@AutoTrader Leasing ≠ Owning, many instances you cannot purchase the EV (or any vehicle) after your lease ends…. So again, why should I lease a vehicle instead of purchasing one outright?

Well if it’s just a fad, it’s world wide and has involved the investment of probably $1 trillion by the various companies…with plans for more. But then again, Toyota & Honda aren’t doing a lot. Maybe they think it’s a fad also? Idk, we shall see. The first Nisan Leaf EV came out for the 2011 model year. Tesla Roadster in 2008 (?), that’s a long fad… the next 12-16 months will tell the tale.

@@christopherhamilton5557 Switzerland just banned EV’s all together. Not enough charging capability, not enough battery life in cold climate AND they catch fire and burn at 4000°! Italy, Portugal, Slovakia, Bulgaria and Romania want to delay a European Union plan to effectively ban the sale of new petrol and diesel cars from 2035 by five years at least as they don’t believe it is possible to create enough batteries to do it do they want to hold off as long as possible.

I dare those who doubt electric vehicles to go drive one. Your eyes may open a little. Then consider then remarkably low maintenance cost and fuel savings of electrics. Compare them...try them. Read about them and experience them. Open your mind to the simple idea that this may be a change for the good...and your purse most of all. So you like going to gas stations? Would you like to avoid them and just plug in at home? If you knew that all expenses were lower with the exception of buying tires somewhat more often because of increased torque and weight...wouldn't that be good? How about saving from half to as much as 85 percent on fuel cost. How about essentially zero maintainance for the first four years except wiper blades and tire rotations? At about 4 years on a Kia EV6 the cooling fluid around the battery is replaced. The battery has a ten year or 100,000 mile warranty. It is very unlikely the battery will fail. Charging at night is cheap...very cheap, even in California when compared to gasoline. Our Kia EV6 went 20,000 miles so far on about 800 dollars of electrons. Our Porsche macan would have needed 1000 gallons of gas at 5 to 6 bucks a gallon. That's an improvement. A 5000 dollar savings actually...Charging at home would have cost about $450 for that 20,000 miles. We rotated the tires 3x and bought one set of wiper blades. The car is very quick, rides almost silently, and very gently. The broad ACTIVE safety technology exceeds Mercedes and Tesla for half the cost and the insurance is cheap for a 40 to 60 thousand dollar car with USAA. Check your politics and your willingness to accept change for the better...and ask yourself how much you like paying for car service appointments that are simply unnecessary now. There will be improvements in range, weight reductions, infrastructure, charging reliability and falling prices, especially if we have a recession soon... but please go out and try them and let me know if you have questions. New is not always bad...and sometimes it is just wonderful. It certainly is for us...and I wont miss the gas stations or smelly cancer causing, asthma promoting fumes of our Porsche either, not to mention the thousands of dollars of maintainance and repairs that are needed from the many over engineered moving parts and control units that cost thousands too...even a toyota 2 liter costs way more to run and keep than a very well made Hyundai/Kia/Genesis electric product. Change is good sometimes...but we have to be willing to look thru the door and see what's on the other side to sometimes benefit
@racerboy2212
@racerboy2212 Год назад
@@stephenclarke5739 I am happy it works for you. It doesn't for me. The risk of fire, the low range of travel, the possibility for the inability to charge the car while on a road trip, the continual stopping for charging (if even available) making a road trip taking countless hours more, the overwhelming cost of initial purchase, the idea of complete and total loss when a slight fender bender happens....all of these things are the deterrent's which will keep me out of an EV for quite some time, if not the rest of my remaining adult life.
