The second time I did this I made a tap harness to the LDM (pre 03/07 car) with a few four pin male and female connectors. Much cleaner install then the solder in hack job I did almost a year ago. You don’t have to code anything with the FTM. I put FTM instead of LDM for some unknown reason on the PDF.
You're the man, the only reason I considered making this video is because of that guide. Thanks for the clarification on the FTM, I just came to the conclusion that it wasn't required on my car, I thought it was due to the car coming with an RDS module. Yeah this was a bit of a solder hack job as well but out of sight out of mind I guess. I didn't have the LDM module under the dash to cleanly tap into the PT-CAN, no other module in the area had it. Thanks again for making that guide!
@@VehicularDIY I did a solder hack job on my personal car. By the time I sell the car it will be worth $2,000 so I don't really care. But you made a very nice DIY video, much better then my poorly written PDF. If you ever want to DIY an NBT Next or Evo send me a PM. I can hook you up with my carsystems dealer. Then again you have the Android unit installed so you can use the tuning apps on the screen.
Hope I could get some help from the ACC retrofit masters out here. I'm almost through with this retrofit on my e82 135i 2011 but I'm stuck at what I think is the very last step. Here's the list of things I did so far: 1. Coded $541 to VO and FA_Write to CAS and NFRM with no issue, now ACC and LDM are showing up in ISTA, INPA 1. ACC radar installed and wired, VIN changed and flashed, no errors with coding in NCSexpert or ISTA 2. Column switch cluster installed and coded, no errors from DSC, all CC lever movements are recognized when triggered 3. High kombi from 335i installed and coded to proper VIN, no errors in ISTA, all lights pass the K-test, cruise mark active as well 4. DSC, Kombi, ACC, CIC, CID and even CAS, NFRM (just in case) SG_Codiren with empty MAN file to default setting 5. Finally - LDM module wired and flashed with WinKFP to latest sotware and VIN, however it is the only module that shows an error in ISTA. Error code read: LDM module coding successful... fault code present - yes. When UIF/AIF of LDM checked with WinKFP shows mileage as 0 km - weird. Not able to do any coding with NCSexpert as it is not in the list of modules. I bought another LDM to double check - same exact issue with the new one. When starting up - the radar car indicator in kombi turns red, to yellow and disappears. I guess kombi check is passed. When cruise control on/off button is pressed there's either a brake pedal symbol showing up (Dynamic cruise control kombi type coded) or nothing (ACC kombi type coded). Pushing CC lever up, down, forward, backwards does nothing. And finally when CC lever is pushed or pulled all the way I get the Cruise Control Malfunction error! If clears out after car goes into sleep, no trace of what caused it in ISTA. I suspect there's an issue with coding but after spending long evenings trying to do the same thing over and over again I need a fresh pair of eyes. I know ACC was not even an option for e82, but 6-cylinder e87 in TIS clearly indicate the radar and DSC module fitted is the same on e9x. Someone has successfully retro'd $544 Dynamic cruise on e82 135i so it is just an extra step to get ACC. I'd appreciate you please share your thoughts on what could possibly be wrong here
After watching this video, I decided that, better I keep my eyes on the road....anyway nice work and i appreciate your retrofitting skill, which is complicated at times.
Thanks for this great guide you made, which I used to complete my own acc retrofit. For my wiring purposes, I was fortunate enough to find a seller that allowed me to actually go into the wiring harness behind the dash and remove the wires end to end without cutting.
I did a cruise control retrofit on a non CC E90. LDM : 3 pins to the CAS and the PT CAN cables to the JBE behind the glovebox. Had no PT CAN connections in the CAS FRM area. Great video! 👊
Whoa; crazy complex video and super detailed, but well out of my reach for things I was considering as projects. But it is cool that more modern tech like this can be retrofitted into an 11+ year old car! I can tell you did a lot of research on this one. This was no afternoon project. Great job on the DIY!
Yeah, I'd say finding the hardware is the hardest part. Installing it was the easy part and the software side took some time to figure out but. If you purchase the hardware make sure it includes the LDM module, that would save you needing to do any software updates on it.
@@VehicularDIY yeah, I can imagine like you mentioned on the video that finding parts from states is hard, but here in europe we have a lot of parts if you know how and where to look at.
Thanks man, lets add this to your F30 lol. For anyone that sees this comment this is my good friend, he just started is channel so please go follow him. He offers really good medical advice!
I’m trying to fix mine so I listened closely and I think I heard a contradiction; if the LDM was needed for 2005 through 1/2 of 2007, then why did your 2008 need it? My e61 is early 2008, manufactured 2007. I’ve changed the DSC twice not being 100% confident with eBay parts but no luck. Love your videos man!! Thank you.
haha I found a good deal out of Latvia for the acc radar for roughly 600$ US, going to give this a shot! And also in retrospective I should have invested in this option earlier, I cruise between two cities on the highway often, and got myself into a minor collision last November for following too closely to a car. I think this could have helped me maintain proper following distance
Well done. I learn more about coding watching your videos than any other source. I did notice your oil runs about 10° F - 15° higher than mine, even when I push it. Hmmmmm .....
Nice, I drove my friends F15 X5 with ACC and it is a similar experience besides the fact that the F15 can come to a complete stop. It's one of those must have features that you don't know you need until you've tried it. Kind of like active steering.
You can use Protool to rewrite the VO and then default code the required modules like Kombi. It's alot faster and easier than NCS Expert. You just need to purchase Protool
Vehicular DIY, I watched this in the hopes that you would show how to align the radar to work but yours worked straight out of the gate lol! I have an '07 335i with ACC but it is malfunctioning with a 'radar out of alignment' code (I have aftermarket suspension, I suspect that the ride height changes may have resulted in the misalignment). How do I go about realigning the radar by myself to work again? Don't want to take it to the dealer because they'll obviously charge $$$.... appreciate your help
Hey man, great work! Do you think that it could also be done on a 1 series from 2010? Theoretically it could, I mean all the parts would fit, but would they be compatible? The only thing different would be the instrument cluster screen, it's not so big on the 1 series to display the symbols of the active system. I would really appreciate your reply!
Yeah that's one of the benefits of buying a luxury car, they typically offer pretty advanced features a few years before it becomes mainstream. That's what the 7 series is for with BMW, they can show you all the stuff that will eventually make it down to the 3 series as an option IMO.
Yeah. I second that. Forget all these cool functional and practical mods. Wrap your car in vinyl. That is what we really need to see because no one is doing that on RU-vid.
Woah nice E90, my dad has the 320i M sport model, we couldn't get the 335i sadly though, because of these stupid import regulations, if we were to import a e90 335i it would be the cost of the e90 m3, wait a minute that's not a real m sport model
Yeah the ABS module applies the brakes for you. It can only apply so much pressure hence it will beep at you if someone slams on their brakes. They did offer a more robust DSC module on the later cars that can come to a complete stop. Like on the E60 and E70.
Stop & Go was available on 2008 E60, you might be able to retrofit it, but that would definitely require some hacking. Anyway, did you calibrate the sensor on your car? There is a special procedure for it.
Hello Very Good Job :) and A super car If I can ask how it was possible to set the radar without a BMW service ? Was set universally and worked or did it require any corrections? I greet you warmly and thank you in advence for answering ;)
Hello, do you know what is missing in my e60 pre lci cluster , i dont have cruise control circle ? Can i add this part from other cluster or i must replace the cluster ? Thx
Hi Vehicular DIY. Ive got an 06 e90 323 (south Africa) and badly wanna do this mod. However, the acc sensor is ridiculously priced online and finding one form a breaker yard here is like looking for hen's teeth. Could this be possible with the sensor from an E60? (lRR3) Same era, same electrical architecture. I've seen a few e60 sensors online and they are priced better
How did you make the cruise control dot work? On my 135, I got an m3 cluster. Whenever I activate cruise control, the red dot does not work. When I do the gauge test, the motor and the dot clearly works. (The shift lights do not work.) Is there a specific coding/config/option that my car needs for that to work? Did your red dot work before this retrofit? Also, why is your dynamic redline so high? 7.5k?!
Can you tap PT CAN wires at the FRM footwell module? A car that has ‘Cruise control with brake’ option must tell the FRM to activate the brake light when cruising down hill right?
hello, I also retrofitted to Acc on a bmw e92 n47, and I have these errors, what else should I change to make it work for me, thank you -d024 (Message wheel torque drivetrain 1 ) -d025 (Message wheel torque drivetrain 2) -d026 (Message wheel torque brake)
If i were to do this on a 2010 car, would i also have to install the LDM module, or would it work off of the DSC module? You said the newer cars use the DSC module, but idk if it requires a specific DSC module or if I’m better off installing the LDM module. Thanks
I'm trying to retrofit this in my E90, still didnt find PERFECT tutorial. I dont understand some things in ur video, if u make mistakes, why not cut and show right way? Im getting so confused.
Good job but your oil temps are very high considering the ambient temperature. I live in Phoenix and in the summer I never even pass 250f on a day that’s 112
Cole Lockridge oil temp gauge comes on the coupes and M models. I’m in Phoenix now, from Dallas. I never really past 250° which is right in the middle. It’s usually somewhere right around 200-210°
Hello, I see that in your middle display it shows also the gear you are in drive like D1, D2, D3 etc. I am trying to find the mod for this, is it possible to code this with Bimmercode? if so can you please tell me what I need to modify?? Please!
Where did you find the stalk switch? They seem impossible to find on their own, I've only seen the complete acc stalk and they sell for well over $600. Please let us know where did you find yours.
