Now Now is a special band in a special place in my heart. Every time I find a new album from them is always at a point in my life where I needed it. Got the chance to see them live in my hometown when they were touring with this album and it was honestly in top shows I ever went to
can y’all stop talking about their old music? instead of that you guys should take the time to appreciate their new album. they were stuck trying to write an album for almost 5 years and came back with an entire record with a new sound and vibe. feel glad they’re back playing shows and with new songs.
its funny that people are always talking abt how they miss threads but no one hears the slight threads influence in almost all of the songs. they're small things, like the riffs and the notes of the guitars and sometimes even in the way they're using the synths. some of the songs are definitely more pop and further away from the lyrical beauty of threads, but that doesn't mean there arent any good songs on this album. powder, window and drive are incredibly good and carry some of the less pop vibes.
It's still Now, Now for sure, but it hurts not having Jess. Too bad they had a bad falling out after Jess and KC dated, broke up and tried to keep it hidden. I like a lot of the songs on Saved but I generally drive around listening to Threads with that crunchy, up-tempo guitar rather than Saved with all that synth/keyboard, which is odd because Saved has what 3-4 driving songs?
I kinda hated it at first but there was something that brought me back to it time and time again. I could never really figure it why. Now (,now) I love it. As a former pop punk and emo rock lover when I was a teen, it was the perfect album that transitioned me to indie rock.
I discovered this band based on Saved. Although it maybe more pop, it got me interested to listen to their whole catalog and appreciate their musical journey.
Can't believe how good "Can't Help Myself" is in this live version. Just fell in love with that song from this. These guys are so awesome live - saw them in Philly - can't wait to see them again sometime.
I'm just happy that these two are molding their music with their growth, and as much as I love old Now,Now I love seeing this bands growth into this new era. Proud of Brad & KC! Can't wait to hear what they bring out next.
What a change. Theads was such important record on my youth, so deep and bright at same time dark and open wide, hard listen to this. But is ok, if you'r happy singing this songs, so be it. I'll keep Threads in my heart.
Great band! I randomly came across this band recently and feel they deserve to be so much bigger than they are! But who knows.. maybe they don't want to be bigger.
She could sing anything and I would be a fan lol I think their new album has the same nostalgic feeling atmosphere with great storytelling as threads did with just an upbeat pop twist which is definitely fitting for her voice. Can't stay in the past!
I love discovering a band with songs I really like only for said songs to be considered the "bad" ones because its different from their earlier material. I have yet to have listened to their older stuff but I really like the songs in this set. Especially MJ
funny how not even herself was able to word how the songs were made I guess they just have really fucking good taste because there's nothing super glamorous about the compositions, and yet they are just absurdly hipnotizing. It really gets you in the zone right away and that's something I envy so so much as a musician their old stuff is pretty solid and unique compared to its contemporaries, but this album is unquestionably a masterpiece. I really don't care if they take another half decade to put out a new record, as long as it's at least just as good as this one
This might be weird, but I don't really like this band on studio versions... maybe the way vocals are processed... it feels like it's warmer in live versions. The live back then on audiotree was really good, and this one is too. :)
Man, he did like...zero research before this interview, and you can kind of see the disappointment on KC's face to be asked questions from their Wikipedia and/or the initial media run leading up to the tour. The best part was when he was wowed by them repeating to him that they were writing for 4 years. The second time she said that. I think this guy was having a rough day, but I miss the other interviewer.
That's how I felt when I first heard them in 2016. They came up in my RU-vid feed, I was falling asleep in my couch and "Wolf" (if I remember correctly) came on. I opened my eyes, listened for a few seconds, then sat up straight, totally awake, and found the video with the whole Audiotree set. I was instantly in love with their music. I texted all my kids (I was 42 at the time, had two kids already moved out, all my kids are musicians with similar - but not the same - musical tastes as me). Two of the three immediately got into them, and my son did within a week, and now he and his fiance love them. Got to see them in Denver back in 2019 with my oldest daughter, and even my brother and his wife came out to see them, too. Saw them open for Maggie Rogers at the Mission Ballroom in Denver (she's not really my style, but the ticket price was worth it just to see Now Now again), but got to see them as the Headliner in Denver a bit earlier in the year, with Foxing, at the Gothic Theater. I loved both shows, but efinitely enjoyed that show more, mostly because the set was longer and I wasn't surrounded with annoying Maggie Rogers fans who wouldn't shut up while they were playing. Definitely in my to 5 favorite bands ever, now (now). I'm pretty sure I uploaded and audience recording of both Foxing and Now Now to archive d0t org, I'll post that link if I can find it. Still have the Masters on my computer, I've got a lot of live music I've recorded over the years. Once upon a time it was really hard to get a digital recorder into a venue, but nowadays the security people don't even know what one is when they see it, and everybody's got a Video/Audio camera with them anyway, and half of them are holding it up during the show already. Check my channel for their Gothic Theater concert, it's all there. The audio by itself sounds better, but it's honestly not too bad from my phone, too, IMHO.
Hmm, not there anymore. Might have to upload it again. Really hope they tour again soon, they're my favorite band of the past ten years, probably, and I listen to a LOT of music and go to a lot of shows. My son's band was playing a lot, opened for some really great bands.
I like some of the newer sound but I feel like it's way too techno/pop and not as alt/punk sounding like Threads. Doesn't have to be a duplicate but its definitely missing Jess' punk roots, I'd say. There's hardly any guitar in Saved which sucks IMO. Saved is good and has plenty of good songs, but it does sound a bit too pop/technoish from what Now, Now always was. Even before Jess, they had more of an indie/punk/alt feel. I think Saved suffers from too much synth/keyboard and not enough guitar when it comes down to it. Replace some of that keyboard/synth with guitar and it would sound much more like what we all loved.
Jess was the technical guitar edge they had, as you can see from her solo projects before and after...So now Now Now have a dreamy emo mood but it's just not articulated as raw and delicately with electronic pop.
I spy a bunch of closed minded ppl. If you open yourself up to all sorts of music imagine the endless songs you can enjoy. Don’t get obsessed about the past. Be in the now
Dont be that guy... Dont be that guy..... Dont be that guy *sweats* OK FINE!!! GOD I MISS OLD NOW NOW!!! I keep trying to listen to the new stuff but I just cant love it. The msuic isnt bad... It just sounds so genetic and forgetable now. Well anyway good luck to them. Im glad she seems like she is putting out more happy music now. Probably better for her.
Stephen Fairchild I totally know what you mean! And she seems to be doing very well with her own music as Tancred. I’m happy both groups have found their groove.
Saw them live in NY recently... it was a terribly disappointing performance and she seemed in an altered state of mind. Needless to say that their "evolution" feels like a sad, last-minute change of direction to make a quick buck.. a mix of the worst pop and indie cliches.
