Sort of difficult to get with only the music, but yeah. This song is basically just establishing Odysseus's longstanding relationship with Athena, since the Odyssey takes place decades after their first meeting. Odysseus is notably much more upbeat and eager to learn, as he is still a child during this flashback.
@@Goomsies It's a thing I've seen several other musical reactors comment on, that using the same voice actor for the adult and teenage version of a character makes it very difficult to tell without a visual component when there's a switch.
I'm pretty sure she's not mad about perspective mercy, she just wants him to yank his head out of his butt, quit moping over doing what he had to do, and actually pay attention to what's going on around him. He's missed things that a warrior of the mind should be paying attention to, which will put his crew in danger. Why did one of the lotus eaters call it a "scary cave"? Why is there an entire cave full of food that they aren't eating? He missed big red flags because he was all up in his feels over the baby. If he'd been less fatalistic, if he had put his emotions aside for a while, he could have thought to ask the lotus eaters himself and gotten more useful info. Then... *you know what*... wouldn't have had to happen.

you know, now that you're done with the Troy saga, it would be pretty dope of you guys to relisten to it over again in one video, but this time with the animatics :) That way you get the blind reactions from only listening to the audio for the first time, and then the second time around you can focus more on how the animators interpreted the scenes. It would also help a lot with context that is hard to pick up on through song alone, such as the fact that Warrior of the Mind has a flashback in it to when Athena and Oddysseus first met. If you need a playlist I'd be happy to provide! Even make it so the playlist only contains the Troy saga, that way you aren't spoiled on later sagas through the titles or thumbnails.
yeeea. I can only see people make the wrong assumption so many times before i begin to think they should just check out the animatics. Like theories are one thing, but using belief rather than musical clues to make an assumption and rolling with it gets old to me.
It reminds me of how another person I saw reacting to Epic had started off with stageplay recreations. Which, not to offend anyone, made things just as unclear as the songs by themselves. They did eventually switch to animatics, and they got a looooot more invested.
@@eclipse9727 I haven't seen any stageplay recreations but if they were done well then there shouldn't be anything left unclear. This makes me think they were hastily created with little thought to costume, set design, casting, and stage direction. Sorry, I'm kind of a theatre nerd.
@@XanderHarris1023 I'm also a theatre nerd, and I could see what the recreations were trying to do. The problem was mostly the mannequins; they were just slow, stiff, kept pausing on poses when it didn't really need to, and they pretty much had it for Everyone. Plus the poses were pretty generic. Nothing that really showed character.
The creator confirmed that Athena distorted effect at the beginning and end of the song, as well as the clock sounds in the background means that she’s stoping time and talking to Ody in his mind in a fraction of a second, a very interesting power she possess in the musical as the goddess of wisdom.
This is one of those times where the animatics show more even though they are using the songs produced by the studio that shall not be named. The middle of the song is a flashback, so ‘You are Athena’ is still a young Odysseus. Not well conveyed when adult and young are voiced both by Jay, but that was the intention.
The second Odysseus tries to listen to his friend and think about not killing everything, Athena pops in like “No. Let me invade your train of thought and tell you how you’re wrong.”
Well at the end of they day this is still a musical so visuals are important, thankfully he is making sure to have animatics and video explanations ready when releasing the newer songs.
Up to this point, I wouldn’t say he’s been making dumb choices. He chose to kill the baby, but that’s because its destiny was already laid out, and the gods presented Odysseus with the choice of killing one person or letting his entire kingdom fall. It’s heartless, but I think Athena would have chosen to drop him as well. With the Lotus Eaters, like you said, Odysseus was ready to fight if they proved to be a threat, but they weren’t, so he didn’t attack. Polites trying to get Odysseus to see the joy in what they have, because he believes their trials are over, brought Athena in to slap the idea of not killing out of Odysseus’ hands. Moving into this stage of the saga, Odysseus is very much a conflicted character, torn between being happy things are getting better, and Athena hammering the idea that he will _forever_ be _her_ warrior into his head. Use heroes up, then spit them out, just like you said.
I don't know if these recordings were done in a big batch or if you're listening to each song a week apart, but you should know from the previous song that Odysseus is NOT losing time to the lotus. Open Arms has a section where he calls out what the lotus fruit is and what it does, and uses that information to say "this is why we can't trust things"

So the song isn’t very clear but most of the song is a flash back to when they first met. Which you were right about. " the show yourself" wasn’t the, on the lotus eater island, it was them meeting as when he was younger. They aren’t meeting on the lotus eater island. I agree with other comments, you should listen to this with the animatics.

I think you might have misunderstood which is fair bc this is one of the songs that's harder to parse without visuals, but Athena has v much been his patron since he was a lot younger, that was a flashback memory to after Ody defeated the boar Athena set up as a test
Yeah im pretty sure the only ones that would be against baby murder in general would be Artemis, Apollo and Hestia, and thats only because Hestia isnt a murdery goddess and the twins are the protectors of the young not that that stops them, oh and maybe Hades
I'm a singer and as soon as Panda mentioned the push and pull of it i was like YES bc when i sing this song the whole song is sang like push and pull! like "one DAY a BOY came FOR the THRILL, a BOY whose MIND rivalled the BOAR'S own will " The capitalised words need a bit of extra breath/ emphasis when you sing them.
I would love to see your reactions for the animatics for the troy saga first and then watch the 2nd saga just so you are more on the same page of the goings on. There are a TON of animatics but gigi's for troy saga are usually the main fan favorite and most lore acurate confirmed by Mr. Jalapeño ❤
the animatics really help with a lot of questions. The next saga is cyclops. only 5 saga's have been released so far.. last saga was released on July 4th... hoping next one will be in a month or two. trust me watch the animatics. there is a list of what animatics are the best but start the first 2 songs with GIGI she just updated the first two song animatics to the new sounds.
Yes you need to do the cyclops saga. Its amazing. Even if you have to do them separately. The interesting thing about casting is that jorge would release a few lines of the song and then they would duet on tik tok and then he would interview the best from that. This song i kept hearing on box office radio so after a long drive, i came home and late into the night i listened to a playlist someone had made and i was hooked and obsessed, especially when i discovered it was the Odyssey as i had studied it way back in school in classical studies.

Listen to this with the animatics, cause you're getting most of it wrong, it's realy fun to see how you think the things are going on each moment of the song, but you are also getting the mayority of the story wrong, and not knowing what is actually hapening, it's better with the animatics, cause most of them are actually considered canon for the story, so yeah, please do the rest of the videos with those ❤
While you two wait for schedules to align, it'd be fun for you to do a reactions on your own channels to just the animatics, one video per saga where you watch through all the songs. Since one song sometimes flows straight into the next, much like Hamilton, that's probably the best way to experience each saga: analyzing the music on its own, then watching the animatics to help visualize what just happened. This way it's not just repeating what you two have just done with the cast recording alone. I'm sure the fandom can tell you which ones are the best for sticking to Jorge's vision. Some animatics are basically canon. A few actually ARE.

I dont think Athena is necessarily doing warrior of the mind because of the lotus eaters more because of Polities open arms view of the world. :) but i love your guys discussion its so in depth
you guys really need the animatics because you tend to misinterpret stuff, you'll benefit to see the interpretations of the artists who have listened to the songs 100 times over to understand the intention and setting
If they were to watch the animatics, I think I'd be best if they listened to the songs without first, then maybe re-listen with the animatics after. Let them come up with their own interpretations first! Plus listening without makes you really focus on the lyrics at first, instead of the visuals being shown :)
Pretty disappointed that you guys didn’t use the animatic so you got very confused about what was happening and portrayed. Pretty much a waste of time… you know? I’d really suggest using the animatics from now on
I can understand why you'd be disappointed but they're the only ones (or nearly) to only react to the music and on my side it reminds me more of the first time I got into epic and didn't understand anything lol
