There is a huge difference between being interested and being an Interest. On my campus, you could come to all the events you want but you won’t even be considered until you formally express your interest in that organization to a current chapter member, and we ALL operated that way. It goes like this, “hello so and so, I was wondering if I could speak with you for a second. I don’t want to take up too much of your time, but I do want to formally express my interest in your organization Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.” (or whatever org it is). However this must be done with a current chapter member that you have at least a casual relationship with, not a stranger that doesn’t know you. You must seek to establish real relationships with chapter members, not fake ones. They could be your classmates or in other organizations with you (SGA, campus NAACP chapter, or whatever you major’s affinity group is, get involved!). But this must be done discretely! Not in the hallway in front of everyone. From there you may or may not get instructions on what to do, what other chapter members to talk to, or where to be next. Just my little advice. 14 years a Delta!
@@ballkristenkb research the rituals they do. They have NOTHING to do with worshiping the true Savior Jesus Christ. You are tying in a covenant with a false god. Please do your research. I pray that everyone stays away from the occult life. It looks pretty until initiation night and all the candles come out and you must kneel to the ancestors who founded the organization and you make pledges and vows to the organization. God says specifically NOT to do any of that stuff. God bless you and everyone as they seek the truth in all of this.
Rep Jesus 1. Not everyone is a Christian... I feel like this is obvious, and 2. Your every misinformed and ignorant. If you knew the truth definition of a cult then you’d know Christians belong to one as well 😂
@@equallyyoked1 I hope you do not know anyone who pledges allegiance I hope you do not know anyone who became a member of Arista I hope you do not know anyone who is prior military I hope you do not know anyone who is an officer of the law (lawyers, judges, police, etc...) I hope you do not know anyone who is a doctor or in the medical field I hope you do not know anyone who works for the government I hope you do not know anyone who ever took a pledge ever because you need to take that hypocritical concept to them and I am still waiting for someone to tell me SPECIFICALLY where it says in the bible that you cannot belong to a fraternity or sorority (because the fraternities, sororities do not cater to false idols) I hope you are not one of those hypocrites that will curse and talk bad about others, had intercourse prior to marriage, was a pure woman and all your family members and husband (if you are married was pure) prior to marriage, all your children are pure etc... - Basically, do not throw stones unless you are perfect - I have found in my life that those who make such commentary online are usually those who are only warriors when its convenient (although you could be the 1% that I rarely find truly are pure in nature no use of expletives, no dancing, no pierced ears, humbly dressed hiding all curvature and hair, etc)
xshesyourqorqeousxx3 lol I was the same way. But I went to the interest meeting/ informational and I had one person that was in the sorority already that I was able to connect with and she could tell I was interested. I know it’s hard. There’s a fine line between being discrete and looking like you’re not interested.
When you trace every sorority and fraternity it traces back to a pagan god. This is not of Bible and never will be. Thank Christ HE caught me just in time. Women crawling across a parking lot, women and men laying down in a grave and drinking from potty seats to prove their flesh deserves 3 letters- No thank you.....but you have to honor Christ and yourself to see this....
I am proud of you as a young NPHC member. Your best advice was telling your young viewers that they need to join for the right reasons. ~ Thanks from a DST Soror~
excellent video and I want everyone to understand that discretion is key however the sororities and fraternities are people so oft times there is someone who sees themselves in you - or there is something so unique about you that its undeniable they will remember you and/or you just stand out from the crowd one suggestion is that if you do not have the gpa do not go and show interest (its like playing poker or spades and showing your hand too early) remember people are people so there can also be some members of the sorority or frat that will be negative towards you for whatever reason (could be jealousy, could be you are dating or dated someone they did or a variety of trivial reasons) just know that there can be one of those members who are mentally small that will try to keep you out, but do not get discouraged so if you have the gpa and/or community service (Combo) and are ready to commit your time and money (there is a financial aspect too) then go for it Good Luck All
Dana’s Dollhouse What I meant was you should show interest with your actions and not your words. Don’t post on social media about wanting to be Greek. Don’t tell anyone that you want to be Greek. Just show up, be social, be seen, and be you. The more they see you the more they’ll start to consider you as an interest. Go to the interest meeting as well because that’s the most obvious way to show you’re committed. And if you’re invited for an interview you’ll be able to tell them exactly why you want to join, but before the interview there’s no reason to be vocal about anything unless someone in the chapter asks you directly.
The attitude for wanting to join is somewhat different for NPHC Fraternities, Sweet Soror. I did certain things the opposite of what you are saying. I still was selected because of my interest in Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. I was made back in SPR. 1999 and I graduated in FALL 1999. I am a financial member of the Fraternity. I am in Graduate Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma as well.
Thank you for watching frat! Please feel free to elaborate on your experiences for the male viewers. I can only speak on my experience and can see how each perspective will be different depending on circumstances whether it’s sorority vs fraternity, PWI vs HBCU, grad vs undergrad, etc. I am sure anyone watching will appreciate multiple perspectives so thank you for sharing!
That’s funny you said that, because I’ve heard about the being “discrete” thing to be new. A lot of older people in the D9 orgs have said they never had to do that. So I wonder what started the “discrete” thing. Also a lot of the founders never did that either to their predecessors from the research I’m doing….
Thank you for this!! I really want to join an organization when I get to college and this helped!! I’ll come back when I get to college and let you know if I get it!
Thank You so much for this video ! I started off college a little rough due to some personal things that was going on at the time and it really took a toll on my GPA. However, I have brung my GPA up and I have exceeded the GPA requirement but I feel like I would be put at a disadvantage because of my rough start. Should I go ahead and consider showing interest of just wait until grad school ?
All of the girls at my school have graduated, I believe there is only 1 girl from the line left and about to graduate this semester. They no longer have events or are even seen on campus. How do I reach out to them and get to know them?
libra35 if there are no more girls left on campus the chapter will no longer be active. They should be trying to bring people in if there is only one girl left, but that’s a unique situation. Are you sure they don’t have any upcoming events? Have you been watching the chapter social media accounts for updates?
alaysiadakara yes I’ve been watching out for everything. The social media has not been posted on for a year now. Could they be doing underground activities? Would it be best to just transfer to a new school?
libra35 I can’t tell you what they’re doing because I really don’t know but if I were them I’d be trying to advertise any upcoming events but I know how hard it can be for small chapters like that. In your case If you really want to join you can reach out to that one girl that’s on campus or the on campus advisor to find out what the next steps are, but I would definitely not consider switching schools just to join a sorority. Your education comes first and is the most important thing. If they don’t have a line before you graduate you can always join a grad chapter of your choice.
Thank you for the video. I'm looking at a graduate chapter. My last GPA in grad school was 4.00. I do community service with my church.. I have not been quiet. I have contacted several people in the chapter I would like to join. I wrote out a manifesto of why I admire the sorority and what I would bring to it. Before I moved here, I had a friend from mu old state who's a member look at it..She was so impressed. I told her things I learned from my research that she didn't know in her 20 years as a member. I go to the events and talk to the ladies. I follow them on social media. I even have some of their phone numbers.. They seem to like me, but the last time they had an intake there were 12 of us who were interested, but they chose only 9. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.
It sounds like you are an excellent candidate. Because you are pursuing a grad chapter you shouldn’t be afraid to shop around. You can join any chapter in your state. Go somewhere you’ll be appreciated. There might be a chapter in your area that you like even more than the one you’ve been trying to join.
Your videos have really been helping me! I do have a quick question. When going to events, say that I have another obligation a little after the event begins. Do I need to stay the entire time, or can I stay for 15-20 minutes, then leave? Thank you!
Glad I could help! You don’t have to stay the entire time but you won’t get to meet/ get to know them or make an impression if you’re only there for 15 minutes. I would say just catch them at the next event if you’re free.
@@justalaysia Okay! I just know that I need to try to go to all the events if I can. I don't want it to seem as if I'm not dedicated or consistent. Thank you so much!
it does take time, but think of it as taking another class. they should have a set time where they meet up to teach you about the org. if it works with your work schedule, great. if it doesn't you just miss out that day and learn the info on your own time.
Colena Tipps as long as you are a full time undergrad student pursuing a bachelors degree you can try, or if you’ve already gotten your bachelors you can pursue a grad chapter.
If you attend the full week for the org of your choice, do you have to still express verbally that your interested or will they know? What are other ways to show interest while being discrete? Is it ok to go to every event the org put on even outside of the week? I did say I wouldn’t go to any more Greek parties until I’m a member if I’m picked.
It’s a different day. In the old school everyone that had the average made line into the pledge club. The question was could you make it. Could you see it thru. Could you persevere. I realize it’s a new day. The process may have changed but my Fraternity is now as it was in 1911. CoffeeRho72
It’s definitely a different time. Chapters are disappearing all over the place because of hazing allegations. Having letters has become the cool thing to do and people don’t want it for the right reason and the gpa requirement is so low that we have to look at other factors. Also I don’t see how that could have worked back in the day for sororities though being that they some relied heavily on social status, but I’m sure it’s true of fraternities.
True. A 2.5 in 1972 is like a 3.5 now. My college had 2000 students and then in1972 there were at least 700 in organizations. We had fraternities ,soroities,as well as socail fellowships like the nu gams, grooves, swings,AphiQ chi etas. But you fell in love with the organization. You wanted to belong because you loved what the organization stood for and who the members were. Old school HBCUs were small. Everyone knew everybody. Your homeboys or homegirls always tried to recruit you. It was a different day. College was sacred. If you flunked out you went to Vietnam. You were a part of the 10% and Greeks were a serious part of that then. Now on White college campuses for African Americans the brotherhoods and sisterhoods are like it was then when I pledged. We needed each other.
Personally I would not, especially if you've never met them in person first. Face to face interacts go a long way. Don't hide behind DMs. If you really want this don't be afraid to put yourself out there. Go meet them first. Or if you're not ready just observe. Back when I wanted to be greek I would watch the girls in every sorority and see how they acted in public. I was trying to see if I could picture myself with them. Just watching the greeks on campus interact with each other and the people who were interested in the org helped me to decide who I wanted to pursue before I actually started to put myself out there and go to events.
What if you were wild’n on your Snapchat and instagram and in college before .. your freshman and sophomore year but then you changed it around and everything and most members added you on snap and Instagram .. does that mean that they’re interested ?
Would you happen to know about transfers? I never joined a sorority but I’m at a 2 year college and I’m interested in joining an organization. But would I even be qualified considering I’m going to be new to the school?
jazzy jazz you’re welcome. I think the minimum requirement across the board for every org is 15 credits and that’s overall, it doesn’t have to be all at your new school. Good luck to you!
this maybe a dumb question but if i do attend the interview process would me bringing up my daughter be a nuisance? would an organization not be interested? or am i just overthinking it lol
As a member of an org I can say it doesn't affect you negatively at all. The point of an interview is to show them who you are and how you're an asset. Being a mother is a blessing. Just know they might emphasize the importance of time management when you're an org, but I don't see how that would negatively affect you.
This is great advice, what happens if you are a transfer and work full time? How can you get involved with things on campus to show you are involved? Or doing things off campus can take the place of that?
Krys everyone’s personal life is going to be different. Some people commute and can’t be on campus all the time, some people are married or have kids, some people are transfers like you said and are just getting to know the campus and all of that is perfectly fine. One of the reasons I mentioned getting involved on campus is so that you have more opportunities to meet the Greeks at your school outside of coming to their events because a lot of Greeks are involved in numerous clubs. But if you can’t dedicate the time to joining any sports/clubs at your campus that’s not a deal breaker. If you are invited to a Greek interview just be prepared to sell yourself and be able to tell that org what is special and unique about you, what you’re good at, and what you can contribute. Being active in certain on campus clubs is just a bonus and proves that you have experience leading, fundraising, running an org, or even participating in community service. And yes, any activities you’re involved in off campus would also be relevant.
10 Jackson a senior in college? If you’re about to graduate college you can still pursue the org of your choice but there is no guarantee that they will be having membership intake before you graduate. If they don’t you can join a grad chapter after you’ve graduated.
My daughter was invited and the group members b4 the group that interviewed her was very interested in her as well but after they left these new members shun her snd did not select her for sound reason. At least she had 3.0 and intelligent and pretty. She was very disappointed.
Presuming that is true, it is unfortunate, but I am not surprised this could happen n this era where younger members try to manufacture war stories to show the older members they actually "pledged." In my day (circa 2000) people got injured, but mostly with sprained (or more rarely broken) wrists, elbows, occasional arms and ribs, but nothing a person would not recover from.
It was said that if you only show up to I event like “AKA Week or DELTA Week” then you most likely won’t be remembered. (Sorry for my poor paraphrasing). But if you are interested in one sorority, do you show up to that one sorority event or all of them? This is my last year in high school and I want to know all the do’s and don’ts before I think about pleading my sophomore/junior year in college. Thank you 😊
It's Dara G when an org has a “week” they usually put on events every day for a whole week. Most people who are interested show up to events during that week. But there should be plenty of events throughout the semester outside of that. The goal is to go to as many events as possible and make a good impression. If you’re only interested in one sorority those are the events you should go to.
i sent my application in 3 weeks ago and the grad advisor returned it to me and asked me to fix 2 small errors. i sent it back to her within a couple hours. virtual formal rush is in less than 2 weeks and i havent heard anything back. i know i met above the necessary requirements. any advice?
You’re a member for life so if you switch schools after you cross into the org then you’ll still have your letters and you can choose to be active on your new campus with the chapter at that school.
I disagree with a comment you made about if someone makes it to the interview but still didn't get in. You stated that that person may not look good on paper. In my case, I was pledging a graduate chapter, 3.5, graduating scholar, leadership organization etc. I was told by intake I didnt make line because they didnt know me. However, he admitted I wasnt the only one. But the other guy did make line. I was confused. Make a long story short, 18 of us made it to the interview 16 made line. 4 guys crossed. NO AFRICAN AMERICANS was chosen. ONLY HISPANIC AND Africans. Hmmmmm. Interesting! This us a Divine 9 Greek org. I was asked to come back to join that chapter. I declined. However, I'm still interested in that org. Not that chapter. Racism and colorism plagues this chapter. Therefore, I will choose a grad chapter else where.
There are a number of reasons a person may not be chosen after the interview. That was just one example. Obviously you had a good resume but other factors could be how you present yourself in the interview, how you answered the questions, knowledge of the org/chapter, etc. or it could be exactly as you stated, they just didn’t know you. This is why it’s important to show up to chapter events and make a lasting impression. Attending events and programs also helps you to determine if you still want to join that chapter. The good thing about joining post grad is that like you said if one chapter isn’t a good match you can easily go somewhere else. Good luck to you.
Brooke it shouldn’t. People make mistakes because they simply don’t know. Most Greeks made the same mistakes as you before they got letters. I prefer to educate people than to write them off so hopefully the chapter you want to join feels the same way. Either way it goes if you get an interview the entire chapter votes on each girl, so you would have to upset the majority of the chapter to not get in.
Who goes to Zumba class and don’t wanna do the class. All to be accepted by an organization that you pay for and do community service for. The organization should be grateful for your interest and service. Thank God for the love and acceptance of Christ !!! He don’t even ask you to do all of that🙏🏾
Obviously you don’t go to the class if you aren’t interested in the class, but just because someone is interested in the class does not mean they are interested in the org. Greek organizations are not the only things you have to pay for to be apart of. That line is tired and played out. Hell, I paid for my degree and had to have community service hours in order to apply to the school. Is there an issue with that too? Y’all love to click on these videos and then act like this sort of thing is beneath you lol. By the way my org invites interests to fellowship with us at church all the time. Be blessed, dear.
alaysiadakara . The devil goes to church to. And just because your body is there does not make you a Christian. As it relates to your degree and paying for it, it was not done to get accepted and to serve- if you paid for your degree it was to better yourself and equip yourself to do what God called you to do. If you asked him first. Not the same. To reject individuals, hurt people in the process on purpose (mental games), to be a part of an organization or sisterhood. And the ‘He__ ‘ comment is not necessary. Mature up and be blessed. 🙏🏾
When you said the devil goes to church too were you referring to yourself? Because that’s a bold, evil statement. Who are you to say that those of us who attend church aren’t Christian? Why are you so interested in commenting on something you know nothing about, have never been a part of, and claim to have no interest in? I’m grown. I have every right to curse on MY social media platform, especially when I have ignorant trolls like you making ridiculous statements about my sorority. To say that these orgs are in the wrong for asking members to do charitable work has to be the most idiotic thing I’ve heard from a troll thus far. These orgs were built on the basis of serving the community. Is that against the will of God? We feed and clothe the homeless, tutor kids, raise money for families in need, sponsor scholarships to underprivileged youth, collect wigs for women who have lost their hair due to cancer treatment, we do WHATEVER we can to help anyone in need. It’s something we take pride in, not something we take lightly, so NO. Not everybody can make it. That’s not something we do to reject or hurt people. When you go to a job interview there’s a chance you won’t get the job because the employer can’t hire everyone. So what? That’s the way life works. And how do you think we have the means to serve others? It’s the money that we pay every year to be a part of these orgs that goes right back into our communities. Joining a sorority or fraternity is an act of selfless service that can also benefit you just as much as your degree. The people you meet and the satisfaction you get from doing the work of God is the reward. It would behoove you to educate yourself on the history of NPHC before you go commenting negatively on any more of my videos. God don’t like ugly, and I will block your crazy ass.
alaysiadakara I know you posted this 5 months ago but LMFAOOOO. After this comment Jennifer Gibbs probably deleted her RU-vid and Gmail account! ☠️☠️☠️
Should I ask them why I didn’t get picked? Or should I contact the graduate advisor? I’m very confused because I exceeded the expectations and requirements and that was my second time trying. Idk what to do and now I’ll have to join a grad chapter and want to know how I can improve.
You can ask if you feel like you need closure but in my opinion if your only option left is to join a graduate chapter then knowing why they didn’t pick you doesn’t change anything. If you did everything you could and met all the requirements then they missed out on a great addition to the chapter. Also understand that if you are close to graduating that is sometimes a reason for not getting picked. Freshmen and sophomores always look more appealing because they have more time/ years left in school to put in work for the chapter. Im glad to hear you have enough love for that org to pursue grad chapter, and I wish you the best of luck.
Jesus stated the god of this world ..who is satan has blinded the minds of the people. Their understanding has been darkened so that they can come to the truth of the knowledge of God..I am praying for all these babies
So, I’m a first year and I’ve been looking into Greek life for quite some time. I have a specific organization that I happen to LOVE everything about, but my college does not have Greek life. There IS a local chapter in my area, so my question is: How would I go about finding out information about the various events that are hosted by the sororities/fraternities? I know that there is an email, but I want to know if there is more that I can do to gain more information in regards to the chapter, the sorority, & the events?
I’ve never heard of a chapter not being associated with a specific college/university. Are you sure the chapter you’re looking in to is an undergrad chapter? Also, usually the chapters promote events by posting flyers around the campus and by using their social media accounts? Have you been able to find their chapter on Instagram or any other platform?
alaysiadakara Yeah, my college doesn’t have any Greek life, but the college that is about 15 minutes away from it does, and I know of someone who joined a fraternity through that school. The chapter I’m looking to join is an undergrad chapter. I did finally find the chapter’s social media account. Thank you so much 😊
@@RosteeveBellier lol they wouldn’t have made a movie like that if the process wasn’t similar. come on. you know people still get hazed in some chapters
Why do BGLOs need discretion? I get being discreet to protect your mental state while doing something new, but it seems like the need to be secretive is the hide behavior that shouldn’t be exposed-not necessarily just an organization’s rituals and secrets. Oh you know what. You said you’d talk about it in another video. … lol
Without getting into the full history of discretion I’m just going to say that not everyone who applies will get in and not everyone who starts will finish. Wouldn’t you rather wait until you’re r 100% in before you start telling people? The people who don’t use discretion usually get embarrassed.
@@justalaysia You may be helping the community but you are taking oaths in the name of the sorority not the Lord only you should not take any oath if you love the Lord. Its a secret society.
What oath did I take? When? Were you there? If it’s a secret society how do you claim to know so much? How did you find this video? You had to have been searching for the very thing you find so ungodly. Why is that? Are you obsessed? I’m really intrigued by your ignorance.
Mmm...my friend....Jesus accepts us all. Getting validation and acception from humans is idolatry. I've been doing a study on Greek life and truly its origin is built upon pagan gods. I'd like you to do research concerning what I'm sharing with you. Much love to ya in Jesus name
