Hi Allen, thank you for the video, helped me diagnose the potential problem, Ive got the NR1890DC(S) and it seems like the piston assembly isn't retracting all the way every time the firing sequence operates? one of my workers dropped the gun do you know what the problem could be? Electrical? Thanks
If the nailer has done age on it. It could be a worn #1 tooth. Or it could be the #1 pin in the pinwheel could be broken or the spring that holds the #1 pin could be broken or slipped off the pin. Being it's firing fully intermittently, I would lean more toward the driver tooth being worn out. If it is cycling fully, the electronics sound good.
My framing nailer was brand new and worked flawless fore a few boxes of metabo hpt brand round offset nails. then started having problems feeding them. and has trouble sinking them all the time. costumer service told me the round offset nails even though they are listed as compatible they cause problems and i shouldn't use them, i should use clipped head. does this sound right to you ? Also how often do you need to top off the air? i used it framing a house in cold winter weather and was told cold weather is hard on the air spring. Do i just need to top off the air probably ?
The round offset nails are a marketing addition to the spec advertised. Offset nails were developed late in the clipped head nailer timeliness. And the nailer were never fully designed to accept them. They have always given all the clipped head nailer issues in one way or another. The clipped head nailers have a tighter slot that the nails slide down the magazine. So when the magazine gets dirty or slightly misaligned. The nails start to have trouble feeding into the nose. You may just need a good clean and lube of the magazine and a top off of air. Cold Temps do make o-rings shrink slightly and could be prone to loose some amount of air. It is not recommended to use the tool when it is below freezing or over 104 degrees.
What i mean is I needed to see the magazine disassembled because I had a jam, took it apart and cleared the bent nails, but when I put it back together a spring and the guide fell out unexpectedly so I thought surely, a video titled FULL DISASSEMBLY would be a full disassembly, including magazine.
I've got an 18ga brad nailer that has stopped sinking brads all the way sometimes, it's only about 18 months old. Would this need an air refill? How much psi does it need?
Hey, if you buy the part 371208 for refill(as I did) you should set your compressor to 110-115psi. There is a great, short guide on RU-vid. Just search for Hikoki air service and you'll find it 😊 Just did my 3 nailers, worked great.
@Allenr1967 any chance you could make a video on how to change the felt in the pinwheel? XD managed to piece together 3 to make 2! Just gotta order parts
@@nathanielracine I haven't forgotten about you. It's really easy. But you do need bearing pullers and a hand bench press. I just need to shoot the video for you now.
Allenr1968. I have a question im currently working on my nr1890dr. I have a hunch that the controller stopped working. When i turn it on a single red light keeps blinking repeatedly and then it turns off. How can i tell if the controller has stopped functioning? I used your video to take it apart and refilled the gun with air but i cant get it to work. Is there a reset procedure?
@@Allenr1967 I bought it from a store that does new/used items. Usually get it cheap. It was brand new, but open box. When you fire it, it would barely sink the nail in and then when winding back up would make a popping noise. I followed your video to see if it needed air and it seems that may have helped. I took it completely apart and checked everything and it seems to work fine other than not driving the nail. This morning I use my own regulator and tried to air it up and it actually sunk a nail almost all the way in and didn’t make the popping noise so I think maybe that is the problem. Low on air? I didn’t wanna go buy parts for it that don’t fix it. Its a NR 1890DC
@@Allenr1967 oh, and when it sunk the nail all the way in nearly it didn’t make the popping noise coming back up. And it doesn’t make the popping noise when I’m not firing a nail
@Brandon Beachy the popping noise is the pinwheel trying to grab the teeth on the driver but lack of air pressure isn't making the tool cycle as it should. Yes.very low on air. The framer nailers use regulator part number 371208.
What if i refill it with air with the regulator, but it still doesnt sink in the nail? If i use longer nails then it makes clicking noise from the gearbox… can it be leaking air? Thanks
The last tooth on the piston driver could be worn down or broken off. Which means the driver isn't being pushed into the air chamber enough to fully engage the nail being driven.
@Adomas Ak yes, if the pinwheel cannot push the driver fully into the compressed in the head. It won't have the force to fully sink the nail. Same principle as being low on air.
