Interesting documentary on Norwegian Black Metal. Featuring Darkthrone, Satyricon, Mayhem, Emperor and Dimmu Borgir. Originally broadcasted on Norwegian television in 2003. The band-members speak about how they view the scene and black metal. This version has a small part removed so that it can be shown on youtube. You can find the complete version and many other metal videos in the forums of ghostradio.co.nr including other documentaries and full concerts.

Bathory was the first band to play black metal but venom just gave it (the genre) the name.and venom weren't black metal as ppl might think they were more involved in thrash if you notice their style.

That's good. Individualism is important in black metal. So many people think it's "supposed" to be a certain way, which is just foolish.

@ChristAlmightyAnal Funny about the nudity not allowed but Mayhem's vocalist bleeding with barb wire on his arms doesn't bother RU-vid. The road trip footage looks like it was shot on a Super 8 camera. Not too sure if they used only one camera for the interview because it doesn't look like it.

I think he's referring more to the high quality of the albums over all, not high-fi sound. He just saying that the early albums had a certain degree of prestige and good composition. In other words, it was low-fi, but it was low-fi music, not just noise.

mayhem is circa late 80's. there were several line up changes even before the "true mayhem" that came to pass in the early 90's that burned churches and did all the other whacked out stuff. emperor came before aske because samoth appears as samoth on the album. prior to emperor, he was "samot".

let me say before I ever heard black metal after venom, my guitar sound was the same, except not as dark. Maybe five years ago, I heard the new black metal.and it is so much the same as my music. Not to be a dick, these guys do it better. but I am glad to say, I am a black metal musician of my own accord.
