We’ve seen a few highlight reel moments from rookie playmakers to start the 2024 NRL regular season - young Lachlan Galvin at the Tigers springs to mind - but it’s Redcliffe halfback Isaiya Katoa who needs more credit for what he’s doing in that Dolphins attack.
The numbers will tell you that Katoa has just one try assist from three games to his name, but in reality he has been heavily involved in just about every scoring action for The Dolphins this year.
Katoa isn't producing the flashy plays but he is consistently doing all the little things we usually expect from veteran NRL halfbacks. He showed glimpses of this form at different times last season but put it all together in a starring performance against the Gold Coast Titans in NRL Round 4.

Great stuff as per usual. I’ve really enjoyed watching Katoa’s development across last season and into this year.

Great breakdown - yeh Dessie's got some headaches to solve doesnt he? His spine isnt really working in attack and are legit targets in defence. Shout out to Jesse Bromwich too, taking some of the playmaking and ball distrbuting heat away from his younger halfback in this game...
