Norfolk Southern's Pocahontas District runs right through the Allegheny Mountains, and with that comes steep grades that pose a challenge to many trains heading up the grades. To help with this, NS assigns a few locomotives to assist trains getting over the grades. When called in to assist, the locomotives head to the bottom of the hill light power. On this bright and sunny day, we were able to catch two of these light power moves both going to the bottom of the hill racing each other to their trains. One of these power moves even had NS 8098, the Conrail heritage unit, which has been assigned to helper service since the beginning of the summer.
