Congrats John. Awesome pickups! That Musial is a beauty! I am sooo glad The National is gonna be in Chicago the next three years. I really have that left-out feeling every other year when it is out of town.
Thanks Russell! Cleveland wasn't bad, but between the two cities I prefer Chicago since most of us are all close to the convention center. Much easier to hang out with people after the show.

Wow, what a first day John! Two all time great rookie cards! I also picked up that Musial on day 1 in a PSA 1 with similar centering but paper loss on the back. Perfect for my collection
Sweet! Sorry I didn't get a chance to see yours. Yes, issues on the back, but a clean front are probably the best cards in low grade to get as it saves a lot of money.

Awesome grabs John, congrats! personally, between the two, I would like to get the bench rookie since I saw him play, was such a great catcher, This is one of my goal cards for later this year ( once I allow mu budget to come back up). Looking forward to your updates from the rest of the national.
To me this show looked way bigger than Atlantic City did you see it that way? it's 5 miles long somebody told us , very big . nice 1968 Bench , nice 1948 Stan Musial , in a 4 !!!
Thanks. Yes, it seemed like it was bigger than Atlantic City. On Thursday, the first full day, I ended up walking about 15,500 steps and over 4.5 miles at the show.
The seller was thinking it would grade a 4. I guess the corners weren't good enough to reach that grade. But either way, I love the overall look of the card. 😃
I do try to stay away from the really old slabs. But I don't always have the luxury of only getting cards in newer slabs. But I also don't care what the grade is so long as I like the overall look of the card. The only thing the grade determines for me is what I have to pay for a card.
@@WadeBoggsFan I guess that's my point. An old PSA 4 label would be lucky to grade a PSA 3 with the new grading standards. I have a PSA 4 T206 Collins that I know would be lucky to get a PSA 2.5 with the tobacco staining. PSA grades should determine the value, unless it's an old standard.
I always try to counter a seller's best offer. Sometimes they are still willing to go down a little. Saw it happen all the time at the National. In this case, the seller's best offer was the lowest he was willing to accept so I took it.
