Can the FT Slottechnik digital chip be installed in the NSR 1:32 scale F86/89 slot car? Yes BUT...you will encounter issues. This video shows it can be done but should help you deal with fitment problems. Let me know in the comments below if this info was of any help.

I too have gotten back into the hobby recently, and also have a Carrera track. It’s a little older though, it’s a Carrera exclusive, which was produced before they came out with their digital system. But I do want to get a digital set, the track is compatible so it won’t be a problem. The biggest problem is the cars, I have like 16, all analog, and 5 different manufacturers, Carrera, scalextric, fly, ninco, and scx. I’m not even going to think about chipping all those cars😂 I don’t have room to build a permanent track, so I’ll just switch out the digital/analog power section when needed. But it is reassuring to know there is a channel where I can go to in case I change my mind😊 keep up the good work ❤

I think you've got the right idea. I have watched others in the slot car hobby spend hundreds or nearly $1,000 on a conversion box to connect to their Carrera track. And I always wondered why you couldn't just buy an analog power track to run your analog cars 🤔 The problem is, once you've gotten a digital track and you're running digital cars, you really don't want to go back to analog. I don't plan on buying too many more analog cars because as you noted it's pretty expensive and can be time consuming to convert them. Most Carrera analog cars are chip ready though and they're just plug and play so you might be able to get by with a few digital chips and just switch them from car to car as you need them. Still not ideal. Thanks for watching!

@@blackpearlvoyager4174 yeah, my biggest problem is that I don’t collect a certain type of car, make or model, I collect my heroes of today and yesteryear, mostly the latter. That’s why I have cars from different manufacturers. I’m also 60+ so the list of my heroes go back decades, it will be interesting to see what I can find from who

Firstly, thank you for taking the plunge and pressing record 🙂 This is a great video, I've chipped a lot of cars but haven't tried one of these yet, because I thought it would be so tricky. As you're clearly able to use a soldering iron unlike many, and using the SCD2022 chip but not running any lights you could win yourself a bit more vertical clearance by unsoldering the three white sockets and having done that you could take the extra step of cutting the end of the circuit board off after that as there are no other components underneath the three sockets. Although I'm not sure the shorter board will help you in this car, it may in others, but making it thinner by taking the sockets off will definitely help you. Running no or very little magnets with digital does present pit entry problems, you really need at least one full straight between a corner and a pit entrance sensor, especially in those F1 cars as the sensor has to be so far back from the pivot point of the guide. Is there enough wire on the sensor to get it to reach as far as that front wishbone? If you can get it in there things will perform better. Generally though with no magnets digital you need to slow down anyway for the pit, as a no mag full speed pit entry will throw even a heavy revoslot off the track. Something else to try is get the "narrows left" digital track section and set it up back to front so it's a "widens right" and swap the chip out of the pitlane entry into the lane changer (it's a different chip in a pit lane so the ghost cars ignore it and don't end up in the pit lane) this will give you a less abrupt pit entry as it's the same diagonal as a regular lane changer.

Thanks for the ideas and info Dave. Just to get a response from you is an honor 😁 You've been a great inspiration and I love watching your videos. You are correct. In two dimensions the chip has no issue taking up very little space and more than once I thought about at least grinding the corners of those unused connectors down to get a little more clearance but they're not cheap and I baulk every time! I figure if I ever need to chip another car it would be a loss but realistically, it's not likely to happen. I may take your suggestion on a new arrival from NSR, Fernando Alonso's no14 formula 22 car. I believe it has even less clearance, although my dimensionally correct model fits in about the same location. That being said, I will be chipping this car too! If you watched my other video, my current track layout is not ideal. It's only barely larger than the track that came with the set. I'm planning for a much larger layout when I move to Central Oregon in a few years patterned after a local racetrack, Portland International Raceway here in Oregon. I already have it laid out in Autobahnrenner😆 I'm not having any issues with any other lane changers or digital sections and the pit layout will be completely different so it should not be an issue in the future. Thank you for all your suggestions though. I thought about relocating the sensor myself but have other interests and activities. One of them is my other RU-vid channel @BlackPearl_voyager which is a vehicle supported overland camping type channel which probably would not interest you. But you can check it out if you like. @@blackpearlvoyager4174 you could get 3 x third straights and bump everything along one third and put the other two thirds at the other end of the straight, that would buy you a bit more time for the car to straighten up over the sensor without changing the length of the straight. One rule of thumb when you're planning a track for no mag racing is with turns, try and avoid jumping two sizes of radius between track pieces, i.e. don't go from R4 to R2 without an R3 in between, don't go from R3 to R1 without an R2 in between, as it will unsettle the cars. I find turns flow better if you start at say an R2 and then let them open out as they exit e.g. R2 R2 R3 R3 R4, it very much replicates the slow in fast out of real racing and save the R1s for the technical bits of track. If you are going no mag I'd also avoid the banked turns as they're not great without some magnet help in the car.

@@slotr I watched your track flow video and your mods are spot on. I have already applied some of your ideas to my next layout of PIR coming one day but for now I'm out of room to add even one more piece of track😆 Next track is roughly 10m x 4m so any track purchases will keep in mind the need for the new layout. I'm deeply into the 70s and 80s HO (Aurora, AFX, Life-Like, Tyco, etc) and the not quite slot based Anki Drive and Overdrive racing system. I havn't got them out of the attic recently though...maybe I should. Although last time my daughter almost set the house on fire by cleaning the track with steel wool while it was plugged in.

Well, the nice thing about the modern Carrera digital track is that the rails are stainless steel so you never have to use steel wool to clean them! Hope your daughter didn't suffer any burns from that near incendiary catastrophe 😆. With these new digital sets, the rails are always hot as opposed to analog where the rails are proportionally hot depending on the controller position. These modern sets are definitely not your grandpa's (me) road race sets of old 😆 Break some of those old sets out. It'll make you feel like a kid again just like the trains 🤙🏼

Una cosa che mi fa arrabbiare è che la nsr ha fatto un auto spaziale prestazionalmente e ha fatto il telaio con ul foro per il led diodo ma non ha minimamente pensato all'alloggiamento del chip infatti ho riscontrato tantissime difficoltà

Capisco perfettamente. Perché preoccuparsi di aggiungere un punto per il diodo e non considerare lo spazio per un chip da qualche parte. Questo è lo stesso dilemma che ho affrontato. Quindi, come puoi vedere, ho fatto del mio meglio. Nessun chip Carrera si adatterà mai, ma il minuscolo chip slottechniks è stato in grado di essere inserito in qualsiasi stanza ci fosse. È andata bene. Ho una nuova macchina NSR formula 22 che ho testato per un chip e ne aggiungerò uno. Fernando Alonso è il mio pilota di Formula 1 preferito ed è una replica della sua Aston Martin. Fai un tutorial sul come installare il chip sulla formula 22. E vorrei sapere se hai la CU aggiornata perché io ho bruciato il chip di FT-Slottechnik

@@SpaccoTutto-ty2vqMi assicurerò di filmare un video che coinvolge l'installazione di un chip nell'auto di formula 22 Aston Martin numero 14. Ho già effettuato alcune misurazioni preliminari e mi sono reso conto che dovrei essere in grado di installarci un chip. Sto usando la CU originale fornita con il set e non ho ancora riscontrato malfunzionamenti o guasti utilizzando il chip FT slottechnics. Ha alcune strane stranezze quando si usano le auto NSR come auto fantasma, ma questo è tutto. Sembra che la maggior parte dei siti Web sia attualmente esaurita, quindi potrebbe passare un po 'di tempo prima che riesca a farlo. Ma rimanete sintonizzati!
