Finally a thorough and comprehensive RU-vid review by an actual owner and you even waited to sink your teeth into the experience before putting out the video. Great stuff man i enjoyed this one a lot whilst eating my bfast baerrito 👨🏻‍🌾🌯

Thanks Robert! Yeah I was genuinely surprised it was such a long video. When planning it, I didn’t think I would have that much to say. But 3 years into ownership it turns out I had a lot on my mind!

Thanks for taking the time to make this thorough video. So many parts of this video hits home as we have similar concepts, especially when it comes to taking care of maintenance items and restoration items. I also have been stocking up OEM parts for future usage in case more stuff gets discontinued. My car has become a massive money pit and it still looks fairly stock. 😅

i had an NA2 (3.2, 6speed, pop-ups) that left me stranded 3x before i got rid of it. these cars were designed in the 80s... great for a 2nd or 3rd car but if this is your only car be aware of that. the drivetrain is bulletproof but the electronics (through-hole pcb's with cold solder joints...) and modifications will get you eventually. favorite thing was driving under parking lift gates for free lol
@ChrisLumNSX
@ChrisLumNSX 10 месяцев назад
True the solder is one of the weak points. It’s the reason why many of us carry an extra main relay and have to get our radios, a/c controller and gauge clusters repaired.

Great video Chris! From one NSX owner to another, you are spot on with the pros and cons. I learned a few things from this video like replacing the ball joint boots proactively and picking up a set of front knuckles while they’re available. Have you replaced your crank shaft harmonic balancer? That one worries me a bit. Also if you’re ever interested in taking your NSX to the track let me know. I’m part of a club and go to Willow Springs and Button Willow every few months. Mines 100% stock and does great on the track. Yours would be just that much more fun. We’re both in SoCal, all those fun roads are so familiar to me, see you around!
@ChrisLumNSX
@ChrisLumNSX 10 месяцев назад
Glad you enjoyed the video! Yes the harmonic balancer is definitely something to consider. I totally forgot about it but while I was installing the aftermarket shield for the balancer I discovered the balancer had already been replaced with a new one from the previous owner. Thanks for the offer to go to the track! I’m definitely interested but I regret not buying a baffled oil pan when I replaced my oil pan. Oil starvation is a real problem for nsx engines so not sure if I want to risk tracking without a baffled pan.

Thanks I try to be as straight up and real as possible. No fluff or sugarcoating. As far as s2k vs nsx. IMO they do different things so for some people the nsx can be a downgrade but others it’s definitely an upgrade. Now that I’m older and just cruising, the car fit the bill for me while also providing that prestige of owning Honda’s halo car--even if it’s slower than a RAV4 hybrid haha

To enjoy the manual steering in the nsx, you need to adapt your steering style from hand over hand to shuffle steering! Takes practice but you'll appreciate your nsx more!

Or just install a Quaife quick gear. OEM lock to lock 3.25 turns, Quaife quick gear is 2.51 turns.
@ChrisLumNSX
@ChrisLumNSX 10 месяцев назад
@SleeperHonda quaife also makes it harder to turn at slow speed which is the opposite of what I’d want. The real solution is a power steering conversion.
@SleeperHonda
@SleeperHonda 10 месяцев назад
@@ChrisLumNSX Yeahh thats very true. I always felt like the NSX was more of a high speed car and the slower rack gave more modularity, but I'm probably just trying to convince my self. Lol. Rebuilding the OEM rack and just leaving it alone is fine too. I feel like we can min max this car a little too far sometimes.

Love the wheels…Can you share any pros & cons on switching out my HRE 547’s…Congrats on an extremely well thought out and produced video…
@ChrisLumNSX
@ChrisLumNSX 10 месяцев назад
Thank you for the kind words. Pros and cons as far as wheels goes is very straight forward. Style is subjective so that one is up to you. Finish-wise, the bronze is probably easier to take care of than the polished finish that I assume your HRE have but polished finish has more flash to it so a bit subjective there as well. The big one will be weight. I’m not sure how much your wheels weigh but they’re probably quite a bit heavier being 2 or 3 pc wheels. When it comes to unsprung weight like wheels it makes a big difference to have a lighter wheel. You’ll feel it anywhere from parking speeds to acceleration. Your car will feel more nimble too with lighter wheels. A con to the Mugen wheels is that they come in only 1 size and offset whereas I’m sure the HRE’s were fully customizable (at least when they were available new). Also the mugens clear 4 pot big brake kits like the stoptech kit.

Awesome video man! I’ve had my turbo Nsx for almost 2 years now and it’s been giving me a nightmare of a headache. Just trying to get it running right but I am on the cusp of it running perfectly soon. I had thoughts of selling it once I fixed it but I know the experience is going to be so well worth it after it’s done. I do need a brake upgrade though and where is the best place to order the spoon calipers?

miss the hayday of s2ki and seeing you there. might be making my next big step from s2k into a nsx soon so this is super helpful. although the prices of obtaining one these days is intimidating.
@ChrisLumNSX
@ChrisLumNSX 10 месяцев назад
🫶 prices are stable or coming down slightly (in comparison to the height during the pandemic) so I hope you remain hopeful. While this review video can be used for prospective owners somewhat, I still do plan to make a full NSX buyers guide video where I’ll get into more details like costs of certain maintenance and parts and also things like the differences in the various model years. There’s still a lot of people trying to get into NSXs so I think it’ll be a good video.

If I had an NSX... I'd just keep it all stock so it can hold it's value. Then buy a cheap Civic and fix that one up for speed...... but that's just me. Though I suppose you can just put all the stock parts back on when you're selling it.
@ChrisLumNSX
@ChrisLumNSX 10 месяцев назад
Trust me, this car is not built for speed hahaha. To each his own-everyone likes to enjoy cars their own way so I don’t argue. Some like to collect, some like to build a showcar, some like to race. Me personally, I enjoy modifying cars the most. Keeping a car stock would kill me inside. I’d rather not own the car at all than purposefully keep it stock so i don’t lose money when thinking about resale.
