Nu-Trix Studio Tour - How to choose what to add next?
I just sold my Roland System-8. I’m now thinking on what I can buy to complement my studio. First, I should a good mental map of all that I have. So let’s make an inventory / tour of the studio. I do this so I really have an understanding of everything I have, what they can do, how they can interact with other devices.
My steps:
1-With a global view, I can imagine all kind of addition to my studio. Go at it freely, just brainstorm.
2-Then, pull back and write down the pros and cons of all the possible devices. Get more info on each of the top devices in my list. I might find out some limits I didn’t know. Read the manual, watch demos and reviews.
3-Then rationalise,
-“can I do already with my actual studio what I dream the new device would permit me to do?”
-“Can a new device better my studio and render obsolete a pice of the actual studio?”
-“Will this device keep enough resell value if I want to part with it?”
-“Can I buy it used, refurbished, demo or even an open box?”
4-Pick the device that tick the most boxes.

I just watched your videos about the system 8 and you seemed very enthusiastic and excited, 3 years later you sold it, I would be really interested in hearing your reasons for getting rid of it. It seemed pretty powerful, but maybe you already exhausted everything it has to offer. Maybe you can tell that I am on the fence of buying one.😀Thank you 👍

I’m not a great keyboardist. I’m a synthesis guy. I’m looking to dive more into the semi modular world of synthesis. Right now I’m waiting to get my hand on a good priced used System-1m. I’m still a fan of the Roland system range but my focus has change.

@@Nu-trix Thank you so much for your reply and your thoughts on why your system 8 was let go. The funny thing is that I have been looking at the System 1M at some point but decided that I really have not only too many mono synths but that it would really not add very much to my modular rig and collection of semimodulars. However, a polysynth that could supply a variety of good virtual analog sounds would be just what the Dr. ordered. I am also looking at the Roland Xm, but the ABC models just sound to my ear better than the Zencore-based models. Although I do love the actual Zen-core engine. Anyway, as always, there are several things to consider, and in the end, one can always pass things on if it doesn't quite hit the spot. On a general note, thank you for all your videos. Lucky for me, you have often filled the gaping holes left by Roland's manuals when it came to some things I couldn't figure out on my MC101 or TR8s. Thanks a million 🙂

Great video like always, I think at the same way buy used one and sale in future. But I have questions, how you'll compare Artuia minibrute 2s with Korg ms-20 mini? I would like to start with synth and I have this dilemma.

Hi, I thought about it. Confusion is that both have very similar price point, both come from very good brand. Both semimodular, so question is which is more beginner friendly, which one will be better for divie in synth (I think about microfreak)which could be better for keeping price for sale in future, which sound better, which have more flexibility to create electo-acid-house music. I like a lot your videos about microfreak and those amazing.

My best advice before getting new gear would be: Take what you have, make at least an album (8 tracks) or two EPs (4 tracks each) with it, squeeze the hell out of what you already have. When you achieved this you will know your gear very well. Most probably you got so many ideas from this process you could make another two EPs or another album ... with what you have. And then, when you get the feeling it's getting boring, then ... you can buy something new. 🙂 Btw. Nu-Trix: You sold your "System-8"? Awwwww!

@@Nu-trix To make things clear(er): This was not necessary supposed to be an advice for you ... I know you made A LOT of music with your gear. But what about the Roland "VP-9000"? Wouldn't it be interesting to make a track solely with this unit (maybe except the drums)?

Get rid of the 2080, I never used mine. overrated digital synth and the prices are crazy. Also the M8 is a more powerful tracker than the poly end if you go tracker.
