My only complaint about new amps/pedals etc is that they are all phone controlled with apps. What happens in a few years time when they no longer support the software and you are left with 90% of the functionality gone. I personally prefer to buy pedals and amps that are fully self contained and dont require apps to run them. Future proofing them. An amp or pedal from 1978 still runs fine and doesn't need to be updated or have a phone to run it.

I hear that, but it's not a valid concern unless software is subscription based. In this very video you see the older amp still works fine, it simply lacks the _expanded_ functionality bundled with the new one's firmware. Speaking of which, many modern products actually have the advantage of improving and expanding features over time via updates - just depends on the manufacturer. These amps are no different than anything else, they work as long as you want. Worst case you're just limited to what you bought with the usual caveat 'features may change without notice'

In this product there's also a Windows/Mac application to configure the amp. This would be more likely to last in time (if phone Apps get obsolete). And also agree that computer/phone dependencies could be good to get improvements in the future. And also agree that maybe 10 years later it would be useless. But 10 years is a good amount on time bearing in mind the price/functionality.

The mk 2 also has an emulated output jack that the first version does not have

I would say this is far superior to the Spark Go, and cheaper than the Mini. I have the mighty mite, which shocked everyone when it came out. They are a really good company.

Nice and useful review - thanks! Would be interesting to see the head-to-head comparison of the new one with the Lite MKii. Do you know if its smaller 'brother' sounds good enought to buy, or its kind of toyish?

I finally got the mkii as a special order from Thomann. Afterward, they added it to their online store )

@@abezhanyan What do you think of it? have you tried swapping out the IRS for third party ones?

The speaker is probably different because it uses multiple amp types and Impulse responses to give you more tonal options. Powerfull addition IMO. It needs a Full range speaker to translate those tones

The ability to change IRs in the MKII is what really interests me, unfortunately none of the demos that I've found for any of the MKII line have explored that feature.

Thank you for this feature comparison. I'm interested in the MKII. Actually I'm in between wanting the 8BT MKII or the BT Lite MKII. I assume the 8BT speaker will sound more fuller and less tinny. One thing I've noticed is some reviewers claim the USB is a charging port or a port for an external battery. Based on the online manuals this is not true, at least with the MKII editions. It says the USB-C is for Firmware updates and recording interface. My current mini-amp is the original Blackstar Fly 3. It's okay better sounding than I expected at first but of course it lacks any app to select different amp, cab, pedals tone options. Therefore it's limited in scope. So I'm looking for a replacement. Do you recommend the 8BT or BT Lite MKII editions?

I would like to know if it is possible to have a preset with no amp and no IR enabled. In this case, will it sound? The reason of my question is beacause I would like to connect my NUX MG-30 modeler to the Mighty and use it just a FRFR amp. The amps and IR would be configured in a MG-30 preset. All the other FRFR options in the market are 12" speaker (too big for home), so this Mighty 8BT MKII would be great to connect to the MG-30 at home. It would be a cheap solution and probably a good sounding option too. I've noticed that in the Mighty 20 BT MKII they say: "The MIGHTY 20 MKII stands as an ideal platform for pedal aficionados, crafted with a design that fully embraces your array of pedals. Its innovative setup features the ability to bypass internal amp models, transforming the amp into a dedicated power amp that brings out the best in your external modelers." So this could be done in the 20W model... would it be the same for the 8W version?

I received my unit and I can confirm that all fx, amp modeling and IR can be disabled, you can use it as a FRFR monitor. This is the solution I was looking for at home. Plus… you have an interface and a practice amp as well. As soon as the Mightier Amp app (alternative non official app) is updated to control this unit it will be a great choice for home. Very happy with it.

@@yago76 The ability to turn off modelling and/or IRs as needed really interests me. Now I just need to decide on whether I should go with the 8" speaker (20 MKII) or the 6.5" (8 MK2)! Really interested in being able to put in my own 3rd party IRs as well.
