I am a self-taught guitar player who enjoys playing budget gear. I will do my best to inform you on my experiences with it. I also alert my viewers on how to save money on great gear deals.
It’s a really nice looking guitar, but I had to put a lot of work into it to get it playable. I replaced the trapeze tailpiece with a Riviera tailpiece which gives a very nice look. Now after all the work was done I’m very happy with it.
As a drummer I hear ya on every level. And why does Reverb even allow a "sale" bid to a new member who isn't yet approved to purchase anything on their site? Stupid policy that actually hurts that seller's product, because it appears as sold to all other potential buyers and then reposted as not yet sold......which would make any legitimate buyer suspicious, and devaluing a good item.
I have had my Donner DST-400 for two months now. I still can't believe the price for what you get. Every time i pull it off the wall to play it, i get a warm feeling running up my leg...lol. No, but really, each time I play it i enjoy it as much as the first time. I've had two Squire Affinitys, and they don't hold a candle to this guitar. Yes, i got rid of both Squires. As i didn't play them anymore once i got the DST-400. Thanks for the review, it did help me make my decision to purchase one.
Do you think the bullet vs sonic is a good comparison? I got the bullet for $150 I think because the sonic replaced the bullet? Does a bullet weight less than the sonic? The weight is a big concern for me. I bought the affinity and it was heavy and bulky.. the bullet was slimmer and light weight for me. Now I'm considering the sonic or maybe just stay with the bullet.. lol
it's a great value and especially for the deal of the day, Musician's Friend crushes it in the sales dept. I love that the newer X-Series have finally returned solid wood parts to the fold - this is a must considering the rest of the guitar is HPL back and sides. At least those wood pieces are resonating together to make a better sound. I guarantee yours sounds better than the ones previous that came with Richlite fingerboards and heavy laminated tratobond necks. Sounds nice plugged in to - good get!
Just ordered a sunburst one. Going to use it pretty much low volume leads in an acoustic based jam I sponsor at my home each week. I am a singer songwriter. I also love my Yamaha FG800 which was about $180 when I bought it. Yamaha redid the bracing and this guitar has such a beautiful bass response. Can't wait to get my new Strat from Amazon this Sunday!
Id say the sonic took the place of the affinity. Fit and finish are great. As an owner of multiple affinities and mim strats. The Bullets feel alot cheaper. I picked up a sonic P and was not let down. Great fretwork and a solid feeling body at 8.8lbs
They got the factory up to speed on the new model making an exclusive run in different finishes while they sold out the old stock pre-update guitars before introducing the updated model using the regular name. Car companies usually fancy up the last year of production so they don’t have to discount them when the new model comes out, but the way Fender did this makes sense for guitars. This was also when they switched factories to another country?
I recently purchased a Jet JT300 it´s their entry level Tele and I really like it a lot. It’s my first Tele, If you get the opportunity to get one you should, I think you would like it too. You have a very nice collection thank you for sharing
Nice collection ! Saw an interview with Vince Gill who has toured with the Eagles. He said he has close to 300 guitars. Interesting to me he said they have their own voice.😊 Hope you have a great 4th of July.
Rock solid little guitar collection. All very good guitars. I also have that Gretsch Electromatic Hollow-Body 5420T in the same - Metallic Azure Blue, or Fairlane Blue. It is an unbelievable guitar. I have 3 other Gretsch Hollows and Semi-Hollows as well. Mix of Electromatics and Streamliners. I LOVE Gretsch guitars. I had the same Player Strat as you. But traded it. I still have 2 other Players Strats though - and one shockingly good China made Fender Strat. They're all awesome. And I have been jonesing for one of those solid body Gretsch Streamliners. That thing is smokin' hot cool. Love that single barrel grain finish. The Luke is cool too, for something different for the collection. Abd man.. the Bonamassa Les Paul is SMOKIN hot! Would love to have that guitar. Cool vid, Joe.
Very nice current collection of guitars, Joe! I guess you got rid of your Indio Boardwalk then, huh? Those Gretches and the Music Man are beautiful--- but the whole collection is great. Thanks for sharing!
You should check out the Yamaha AC3R acoustic electric. While the MSRP is just over a grand, deals can be found pretty easily. I have A/B-ed these against $1500 and higher Taylor’s and preferred the Yamaha. I feel that Yamaha sort of shot themselves in the foot for years with the Pacifica line, although now they have come out with high end versions. Yamaha is a top notch instrument company, their pianos are world renowned, but they just get no respect for guitars which is a shame.
Epiphone nice lookin guitar and is beautiful in that blue. Gretsch with the bigsby trem…oh yeah. Sterling Luke, nice as well. Have a happy holiday and love seeing your collection. It’s so cool to choose between my 8 guitars when I want to jam
With all the guitars that have come through your channel, it’s nice to see which ones stuck around. Now you got me pining for that Lukather Music Man. What an awesome looking guitar! Have a great 4th.
