Thank you so much, Bill! It's people like you, who I imagine during shooting the video. I don't like the shooting process that much. So much to watch out for, so much concentration needed. I like writing the arrangement, editing the video etc. But the shooting can be a real pain in the butt. But when I sit there, recording a take the fifth time, bc I lost my English on the way to a twisted bunch of chords, I remember how you guys enjoy hearing the song and learning it then. That really motivates me time and time again. So, thanks for your kind and encouraging words. They're very much appreciated! ❤️

Awesome job, Sandra! My lunch got cold while I watched this one😄. This song always made me think of Jackie Gleason’s “Melancholy Serenade.” Great discussion as you go through as well (applying tritone subs always fun!). I think I figured out one subtle reason you are one of the best teachers out here... you have this infectious sense of positivity... you smile your way through these lessons, which gives the viewer/student a sense that hey, not only am I learning something... but, we’re having fun doing it! A big fat thumbs up👍, and - Thanks!

Thanks, Barry! I just explained to someone else here, that the shooting itself is my least favorite thing in the process of making a video. I love writing the arrangement, learning it and editing video. The shooting itself is talky exhausting, bc I need to concentrate on so many different things. Is the angle correct, is the light still good, what's this term in English, Was that the correct timing like I wrote it in the TAB etc. But then I think of all the peopke I make happy with my little tutorials, and that, in return, makes me happy again 😊

Thank you for taking the time to reply. I'm sure you're busy. Yes, I find it very rewarding to dive into something new. I've always loved Django's sound. I'm half Hungarian, its in the blood. Happy / Melancholic. PS: I love your Piggy in the background. I used to have one like it! It makes me laugh every time I see it. Silly me. Servus!@@GuitarversumSandraSherman PPS: I'm not a sycophant, but I'd just like to say, I've looked around RU-vid just to compare.. There are many possibilities to choose from, and a few good ideas from time to time, but the most have no talent for teaching. You are a fine teacher, and I for one thank you. You don't "dumb down" the material. You inspire the student to go further. Thank you.

I see your position markers are at 3, 5, 7, 9, and 12. The marker at the 10th fret on most of the European Django type guitar throws me off because I'm used to the American scale. I inlayed an ebony dot at the 10th fret on the fingerboard and a black dot in the binding to hide the marker, and this works better for me. Banjowise I see the 10th fret inlay, but on guitar for me it has to be the 9th fret. Thanks so much for these chords. I knew I was missing a few chords and you cleared that up for me.
@GuitarversumSandraSherman

By some amazement I have got all the grips up to section four. But this is where its gets hard for me. This is the key change where everything gets difficult. I think I'm gonna get it down close enough. But wow this song is gonna take hours in the woodshed to make it flow.
@GuitarversumSandraSherman
@GuitarversumSandraSherman 2 года назад
If some piazza are too hard, you can always just play the melody (highest note of the chord, unless it's a filler chord) and adapt the arrangement to your needs / possibilities. You can always practice the more advanced sections parallel to your stripped down version until yozr able to perform it. My credo is: Better play an easier version effortless, than screwing up a difficult arrangement in front of an audience. Most sudiences don't even know, which arrangement is hard to play. They rather see and hear you in the flow, than having a raught time, that is usually at the expense of timing.
@Southern-Music
@Southern-Music 2 года назад
It's those stubborn little passing chords that are getting the best of me. Some of these quick little changes just stop's any flow right now. But think many hours in the woodshed with ax will get me up to speed. I've got 4 months before this wedding.

I add them when it makes sense. I put so many filler chords obrigada the arrangement to make up for the long melody gaps, I thought the chord boxes would be helpful. In other chord melody arrangements, the chord change with every melody note, which makes it hats spacewise to add the boxes, plus sometimes the chords often aren't regular chords, when the melody note doesn't really belong to the chord etc.

The Bbm6 is the II and the Eb7b9 is the V chord. So you should play Bb dorian over that Bbm6 chord. Actually when you have a 6 in a minor chord dorian is THE correct scale. Only dorian (and melodic minor, which you could also use) have a major 6th in a minor chord. So whenever you see a m6 chord, use dorian, even without analyzing it. It's the only way. Keep swingin, Fran!

How about one that's fine for intermediate players? We're not all beginners here.

I think it's also for intermediates. It's not that easy 😊.

Yeah, I know this stuff is kinda hard. I'm assuming that you guys know the basic jazz chords already, bc chords melody is really the kings discipline and should only be played with a good jazz chords knowledge. I strongly encourage you to check out my chords playlist. Start with the jazz 7th chords rutorial (including practical theory, so you know what you're doing). Then check the Tension Chords. Some jazz rhythm comping too. Those 3 Videos are the bread and butter to chord melody.

@@GuitarversumSandraSherman I personally think that expressive playing could replace highly technical playing. But thats my « lazy self-taught» guitarist view...

Please play it with only 2 fingers.(Sorry ,this is just a joke) But I really want to know how Django played this.
@GuitarversumSandraSherman
@GuitarversumSandraSherman 4 года назад
Oh, I'm happy to still call all five fingers my own 😊. There are some players, who mimic Djangos 2 finger style. I don't know why anybody with a healthy hand would want to try that, though.

The raspy tone quality of the guitar distracts from your arrangement...... The nature of the Beast itself, NOT you.... Other instruments could help mask the treble and mids. This type of guitar is the equivalent of a transistor radio As you know, guitar was designed to project. It would probably sound better without using a pick, which goes against the grain of how this guitar was designed to be played. Tone QUALITY is one of the secret ingredients that many guitarists overlook. Perhaps, fewer chords between the melodic segments would be more complimentary. As I reflect more on your arrangement, I sympathize with you: how to best bring out the mood evoked via the melody. More with less. As always, thanking you for your generosity of spirit.

Hmm, I pretty much like the raspy tone of a Gypsy guitar. If it's good enough for Django, it's good enough for me 😊. Of course this song would sound great on a jazz guitar too.

@@GuitarversumSandraSherman Thank you as always, for your reply....... You are one of the few people on RU-vid that replies to their viewers, which makes me wonder if others who post even read viewer comments, let alone even care about their viewers, being more interested in generating likes, as if they never graduated from high school. Hence, no dialogue. RU-vid is inhabited by far too many self-serving egos. You are not among them.

@@GuitarversumSandraSherman I suggest you watch Julian Bream's rendering......The mystery, atmosphere and beauty of the piece comes through much stronger then in your adaptation. Your goal should be to serve the music, NOT a personality. The argument that if it's good enough for Django it's good enough for you, does not hold.
