Definitely wouldn't recommend it for a duty holster. The convenience is understandable, however if someone was attempting to remove the pistol that extension would provide easier activation of release button. We are aware of a few instances where that thumb release extension could have been a serious safety issue. One of the officers actually upgraded his holster to a level 4. The officers was in a violent struggle..... Thank you for sharing this video 🙏👌
Thank you for the input and I like to hear from others in the field concerning real world data and good thought out responses. Yes the nub mod is convenient and fast especially when drawing. I am always concerned about being in a knock down drag out fight where I am fighting over my pistol. Defeating holsters are something the bad guys are training in. I will always default back to training and how weapon retention as well as force options when in the middle of a struggle. It’s better to have it happen during training than out on the streets. More levels of retention is a great thing. But we also do not want to hinder our draw. Because as you know when we make the decision to draw we are already behind. But lastly thank you for watching and leaving a great comment! I am very appreciative of the time you spent watching and commenting.
I have never heard of this before now. This mod would be a great application to my safariland level 3 holster in an actual situation because we all know motor functions go to the gutter and this will make release from holster much smoother!
To me, the whole idea of using the ALS is so that it would be difficult for an opponent to pull out my gun. Making the nub bigger somehow defeats that purpose IMO.
You would be correct in your thoughts however the level 3 nub is not as big. So for SWAT, CID Mil and some off duty applications it could fill that role. Also you wouldn’t carry a level 1 on duty either. You want as many levels to defeat on the holster as you can have. I get that aspect. I was mainly presenting a product that could help you get a faster draw when you need it. Having been on the Mil/Civ LE side in shootings I have definitely had my fair share of data to lead me to my own conclusions. But I am also a student and love to hear other people’s experiences and opinions. So thank you for sharing. I really appreciate the watch and comment. Definitely means a lot to a regular dude like me.
Nah, ALS is about mechanical retention over the friction retention of your typical OWB holster. If you are a LEO or open carrying and worried about retention from another person, you’d want to opt for a multi-layered retention holster.
Yeah I can definitely see that. Thank you for sharing your experience and recommendation. One of my former coworkers and SWAT guy had a nub for a thumb and if we had that or knew about the product it could have made it easier for him.
Wow I didn't know about this mod and I carry a safariland on duty. Thank you for this input. I'm purchasing one so I can ensure a consistent draw every time. I like how this video was informative and had a fun element with the elevator music. Great video hope to see more content. I'm really enjoying the channel.
Your thumb shouldn't be hanging way out there to begin with. These holsters are meant to mimic your natural grip of the pistol with very minimal action for release. This is no different than the old Blackhawk holsters. For some reason people considered the Blackhawk holster release to be a button that needs to be pressed which it was not. It was meant to naturally have your finger in a position as it would between the slide and frame above the trigger guard as most of us have been trained for years to keep your finger out of the trigger guard until your weapon is presented to a target you are willing to destroy. I do understand that everybody's hands and fingers are not the same so this modification will probably work for most with those types of issues. I look at things like this as no different than people modifying safeties with wider blades, extended mag releases and other ergonomical modifications to fit the users hand.
I 100% agree with your comment. It is meant for that I know under stress I have missed the ALS nub a few times and I know it’s a training issue not the equipment. However my only add on to your comment would be if you can have a tool or addition which would ensure success every time why wouldn’t you add that. I can tell you at my last agency one of our deputies had part of his thumb missing due to an accident and he had a hard time with engaging the ALS system and this piece once I brought it to his attention has helped him out a lot. Thank you for your comment I enjoyed reading what you had to say and it was very valid especially about the Blackhawk Serpa. Still not a holster I would recommend for any duty capacity but I understand the purpose and carried one for a couple years in the Army. Again thank you for stopping in and commenting as well as watching. I really do appreciate the insight from others.
That’s because you are a Jedi lol. Some of us need all the help we can get lol. Definitely a great mod for a less experienced people’s this is a great upgrade. Thank you bro for the watch and comment means a ton to me.
Great info.. that nub is definitely an good upgrade, I just shared this with a few LEO'S and military guys I know. You already know I'm loving the channel and the content, keep dropping 🔥🔥 bro🇺🇲🫡✊🏾💪🏾💯👉🏾💥💥💥💥
Hey Tec thank you I appreciate the like view comment and share I agree it’s a great upgrade. Your comment definitely motivates me to continue the content.
Good info! I like to loctite things to ensure they stay especially on stuff that moves. Just a habit from working on my own firearms and mounting optics. So what are you carrying now holster wise if you don’t mind me asking?
I agree with you it definitely is a great value as well. When you start upgrading certain things they get expensive but not the nub mod. The value is there the minute you put it in your cart and order it. Thank you for your input as well as watching the video it definitely means a lot to me. I have some new content coming soon on the alien gear rapid force holster as well. Needless to say I’m impressed with it.
It is what it is. Going from the old Safariland Police Dept level 3 holsters...lower snap, upper snap then down and out, when does a standard become standard? Went from the .357 level 1 to safariland level 3 to Serpa 2 Glocks and new to me...this holster which is much harder than the previous for Staccato as an instructor. Practice makes better.
I started my career in LE with level 2 SLS. My mil career however we deployed with Blackhawk nylon then serpa and onto safariland SLS then to ALS. It’s all phases of upgrades and you get used to your holster then something new comes out or an upgrade. You are right practice and reps definitely make you better. Thank you for the view and comment and I appreciate you!
Believe it or not, threadlocker is supposed to be applied to the threads! I have never seen anyone put it on the tip of a screw lol. What made you think it was a good idea to put it on the tip? Sorry just had to point it out I have never seen anyone do that before
While I appreciate your comment because yes it needs to be on the threads. But putting it on the tip and starting it will coat the threads as you screw it in. I have been doing it for years and as of now I’ve ran this since the video has been released with no issues. Give it a shot and come back and tell me your thoughts. I appreciate you watching and commenting.
I’d love to see a cheaper version but for being aluminum I definitely understand the price. If strike industries made it that would definitely bring the price down.
Interesting option but does it also, then, make it easier for an attacker to access the ALS release? Do you think the size of the knob from Safariland is by design or is it a defect? Granted, an end user can choose for themselves and that's OK, I just wonder if I'm doing more harm than good, or if its more good than harm.
I think honestly it will be easier to access. However if an attacker wanted to get your gun whether or not you had the mod wouldn’t matter. Weapons retention training will help you understand how to better retain it. I however look at it as an aid to speeding up your draw with less risk. You definitely have a great thought process about it. Your approach is one I thought of myself and wondered but I remembered someone determined to gain access either with the mod or not will gain access.
I can’t argue with that why because for most of my career I’ve run safariland with no issue. Only had one slip and it was because I had blood on my gloves. Thank you for the watch and comment and be safe out there.
@@Five-O-Preacher I carried it with the nub mod before I switched the the Rapid Force. The nub is definitely a multiplier on draw speed. However if you feel like it may be an issue with retention just put it on a range holster. But you know the saying train how you fight.
Hello, thank you for the video and clarifying it. What are the attachments on your multicam with SLS ,on front of the holster and that thing with 3 snap buttons that sits under the QLS for?
Hey thank you for watching I believe it is to button it into a vest or something like that for vehicle ops but do not quote me. That is the only feasible thing I can think of. On the front of the holster you can attach something with a single molle strap. It is a holster developed for Army Rangers.
I always always against using safariland holster due to the foward cant and nub, and switched to Blackhawk and now alien gear rapid force. But now that aftermarket companies have fixes fornthese setbacks I may switch back if my agency ever lets us carry anything other than glock.
@@cujo229 I carry a rapid force on duty right now and I love the holster it’s a great option but safariland is king with the many options as far as weapons. Hopefully others will catch up. As I can carry whatever I want for the most part.
@@AngrySargeG01 I'm hoping with new elections for sheriff we can go back to choosing duty weapon we are more comfortable carrying especially with the advancement in 2011 platform and other makers.
@@cujo229 before our current sheriff we could carry all but 1911 platform but now we can carry that so i appreciate that since we buy our duty gear and weapons including rifle and shotgun. So I hope for you it turns out good. Good to see another LE on my vids. I appreciate that!
Yeah it’s not for everyone. I have multiple safariland holsters and have run them for years without upgrades. But it’s not a bad upgrade or gimmicky it does fit a purpose at least. Thanks for the watch and comment much appreciated.
Well you are in luck my new series coming out in a few weeks is about the Rapid force and the mods that can be done to it. I agree it will more than likely end up in my rotation but I think you will see why in that series. Also thanks for stopping by and commenting I really appreciate it.
@@stevenvanlingen2914 appreciate that will be up in a couple weeks I’m finishing the series now. First video is ready but I have content scheduled out already.
Hey!!! I’m not the only one lol. Appreciate the view and the comment. To me it just makes sense to put them back in. Thank you again for taking the time to watch it.
I would say yes they do benefit the other party as well. If this is for duty I definitely recommend weapon retention training. That is vital regardless. However for speed and ease of use it’s definitely a bonus.
For the level 3 I prefer sls and als the sentinel isn’t terrible. They both can get the job done. But I feel like with the sls it’s another factor holding it into the holster. But for range the als with sentinel is good to go or even working off duty at what I work I don’t need much.
@@andrewmartin4387 gotcha I do know in the beginning it was new and I was slower and in training I’ve missed the als button. But the more I trained it became second nature. But I think the nub mod just makes it easier and faster. But I appreciate your comment as well as the watch. I definitely like to hear others people’s experiences. Do you think the nub mod is a crutch to training or is it a viable product? I’d definitely like to hear your thoughts.
@@AngrySargeG01 I bet there are a lot of people that do have that problem with the product being made. And I don't know if I never had that problem because I do have smaller hands in the average person as well.
@@andrewmartin4387 I appreciate the feedback. I could see where hand size could be a determining factor. Thank you so much for giving the video a shot and if you feel inclined to stick around I have a duty setup you may want to check out the first video drops this Saturday and is a 4 part series. Thank you again for taking your time to watch and comment.
All those safeties are trash. It might cost your life so many bs in between you. A level 1 retention is more than enough. If only requires of you not being eating 💩 all the time, and that’s it.
I’m just a little confused by what you are saying at the end. And I agree speed is definitely a reason why level 1 is a great option. However in LE the more retention you can get the better but I also am a proponent of weapon retention training and keeping it to level 3 retention vs the level 4. Having fought someone trying to grab my weapon on duty I can say I was appreciative of the extra retention. Thank you for the comment and the insight.
