Well, it's not the first time they've used magic in a video, they did do a video on the Midas' touch. You know the fairytail about king midas, where everything he touched turned to gold, they did a video on what if he tripped and fell to the ground, touching the earth, what would happen? Ya should react to that vid.

Question. Seeing the rings around Earth due to the moon crashing into it got me thinking. Did a moon crash into Saturn and Uranus causing rings to form?

Great question! Yes, according to NASA it is probably a combination of shattered moons, comets, and asteroids. Saturn’s rings also formed only 100 Mya as opposed to 4.5 Bya, when the planet itself formed. This supports the theory that it got its rings from something other than the planetary nebula that formed the Solar System.

Jupiter and Neptune also have rings, though not a lot of them and they're not very easy to see because they mostly just consist of dust, which doesn't reflect light very well.

Both planets have a lot of moons already. It's not crazy to think some of those moons got a little too close at some point in the distant past.

Jupiter and Neptune also, according to NASA (hopefully im recalling this right), once had rings as prominent as Saturn's. They will soon completely disappear as the rings fall into the planets, and Saturn's rings will eventually suffer the same fate.

FFXIV did the "megastructure" thing too, although in that case it was less "help humanity out" and more "keep something very powerful and very angry locked up" - and then trying to crash the moon set it loose. Needless to say, that also ended badly for everyone involved.

The one thing on my mind is what effect the lack of a moon would have. We kinda need that thing. Or at least benefit greatly from it.

Without the Moon, Earth would have no tides. I don't know how much modern life on our planet even needs tides, but evolutionary speaking, without tides no creature would ever leave the ocean to cololize the land.

Because most of the videe is just unedited footage of him watching the video? I skipped ahead to whenever I see him start speaking and he doesn't add anything substantial enough to worth seeing more of his content

I was a little disappointed that the moon *spiralled* towards the Earth, not exactly what would happen if the moon simply changed velocity and suddenly was on a collision course. Also in this scenario we were robbed of the actual "crash" part of the moon *crashing* into earth. Surely, if the moon, when disintegrating into rings, IF it was surrounded by air to carry sound waves (which it wasn't), would give a crash-like sound from the rock breaking apart and colliding with other moon parts. But still I think it's a stretch to call that a crash.

There are places in frnce where the tide reaches 14 metets of difference and I have heard that in other places (whiches names I forgot) the tide rises even higher with massive waves over 25 meters being a regular occurance

Aren't most life on earth dependent on the cycles of the moon as well? Life started with the help of the moon after all. So I wonder how life would adapt without it

if you can make such a small 3 gigawatt reactor it better be 100% efficient. otherwise you'll have a really bad day trying to put off the fires it would light all over its vicinity. practically the space you'll need to cool this thing would be in order of the space needed for traditiobal nuclear reactor.

If I understand it correctly, the Roche's limit depends on the densitiy of both objects. So, if the moon were made up of, say, solid iron, woult it be able to reach Earth as a single object? I maan, it is possible for the densities to be in such a way that the Roche's limit lies inside of the Earth?

Would a large enough asteroid, like that dwarf planet one in the asteroid belt, skipping off the surface of the moon be able to send the moon hurtling straight down toward the earth without shattering it?

I'm not an expert, admittedly, but from what I know of orbital mechanics, there is no singular impact you could make to the moon that would sooner drop it straight down to earth than shatter it. You'd basically have to cancel ALL of the moon's momentum. Too little, and you'll just shift the moon to a different orbit (albeit one with less overall energy). I think some folks have the impression that to de-orbit a satellite, you can just kinda "bop" it directly toward the body it's orbiting, and that'll send it straight in. Nah fam, it does NOT work that way. The moon is a huge amount of mass hurtling _blisteringly_ fast over the earth. Trying to de-orbit the moon in such a way is like trying to knock a baseball pitcher's fastball down onto the home plate... while the ball is already _directly over_ the home plate. Applying a downward force to the ball at that point might angle its trajectory downward a bit, but it will still miss the home plate by a lot (unless you use such a titanic amount of force that the ball is practically sitting still by comparison). To bring that ball down in time to hit the plate, you'd need to take it head-on with enough force to counteract the energy the pitcher gave it. Same thing with the moon, only it has so much mass and velocity that it would not survive that kind of head-on collision. You'd need sustained deceleration (and a LOT of it) to keep the moon intact. Hope this makes sense. Apologies if I'm inaccurate in some way or another.

The moon in this scenario is experiencing constant slowing down (magic). 1 impact could make the orbit very elliptical, but not crashing into earth.

If the mass in the ring is relatively evenly split then the tides will be gone forever, unless we happen to somehow magic ourselves a new moon. Maybe we'll have some microtides from the sun or other large planets, but probably nothing noticeable.
