Nudgee Beach Flathead Fishing with a Diawa Double Clutch - Great lure!

Sit back, relax and tune in for a great day fishing the sand flats for flathead at Nudgee Beach, Brisbane. Today is my first session (apart from a few trial casts last weekend) using a Diawa Double Clutch lure. This one is the 75mm in Purple Suji Prawn colour and I have to say these lures do not disappoint! Honestly, why haven't I bought these lures sooner. I managed to catch and release 4 flathead overall in about 2 hours of fishing. I was walking out in shallow water - if you try this make sure you wear good footwear because there are stingrays, mucrabs, stonefish (I have caught stonefish at Nudgee Beach), I used steel cap boots for safety! out there on the flats you can let that lure bounce along the sand, it kicks up little dust clouds that bigger flatties really go for. Tight Lines 🐟

Hey @ The Dingo Show! Thanks heaps for the tip. I wasn’t sure if kicking up the sand was good or if it was better being close to the bottom without touching it. Makes sense because it will get the fishes attention and they will be looking for food. I’m definitely keen to target some bigger flathead, cheers mate! 🎣

@@the_dingo_show I’ve tried a Diawa Slippery dog 80F on the flats there once and I had a good hit but I think it was bream hit. I’ve seen posts in fishing chats about guys getting whiting there but I haven’t got any myself. It’s a good idea though. I’ve caught Bream, Flathead, Grunter bream, stonefish, squire, flounder, pike, stingrays and also hooked a decent queenfish that got off at the edge. It’s not a bad fishing spot at all. Cheers mate! I might chase them in the future. 🎣

Awesome video, was good to see Nudgee creek so clear and not muddy/murky like it always is… haha 😛 Yeah the Double Clutch 95’s will catch you bigger flathead and you can cast them much further distance cause of their additional weight, the internal weight system helps with casting distance for sure! Love your videos mate 👍🏽😉

Double clutches are probably one of my fav lures they catch everything I've caught my PB gt and PB tailor on them and heaps of flatty and bream it never fails

Good stuff have you seen the drop off there now after they dredged it I don’t remember it being that steep haha

Thanks heaps mate! I haven’t had a look at the drop off recently and because it was high tide I couldn’t see the channel today. I’ll have to have a look at the next low tide. Have you got any colour recommendations to try for the double clutches? I want to get some more. Also, have you tried the longer ones? This is 75mm. Thanks heaps mate.

Yep, S-Factor scent works well for me. I put it on most lures including this one this video. Also, I normally find the last few hours of the outgoing tide is best. Low tide is good because you can walk out on the flats and sand bars! Good luck!

Hey mate, yep, this is the Nudgee beach spot. It good fishing and very kid friendly. Highly recommend it. It can get pretty busy at times, however, you can walk out onto the sand flats at low tide and fish! Good luck mate & hope you can get some good fish! There is a fishing app called Fishbrain and you can look up the fish species caught in different areas. It’s a good app.

Is it best to fish Nudgee high tide? How many metres should the peak of tide be? Cheers mate!

Hey Shuhei Lawson, it depends on where in Nudgee you would like to fish. If you are up river around the mangroves it should be high tide - just as the tide starts going out is the best time I’ve found. If you are down fishing on the sand flats it’s best on the outgoing tide at low tide so you can walk all the way out. It’s also good early morning. In this video I was down on the sand flats on the outgoing tide but I walked out with the water up to my waste and fished the shallows. This was an awesome session, normally I only get 1-2 flathead per trip. Thanks heaps mate and good luck with your fishing!

Oh and the bigger tides are better! Anything around 2m + is a good high tide. Like the one right now (7.30pm)

Hey mate! That was about 2 & 1/2 hours of fishing. I waded out when the tide was still pretty high (being careful of stingrays, stonefish and crabs) and started casting the double clutch on the sandbars as the water was starting to recede with the outgoing tide. The fish generally turn on and off depending on the tides I was the first one to go out and cast this far out and that’s how I got the fish. Once the tide was lower the fishing was over. Generally if there are fish around you will get some hits and action in the first 30 mins.

Hi @justanotherprospector, that's the 75mm Purple Suji Prawn colour Double Clutch. I highly recommend it, particularly in clearer water and on the sand flats. I also used some S-Factor scent as well. Good luck with your fishing!
