NUFC: Is Pope OK? | Are there concerns about Pope's future from the club? 

Having suffered from shoulder damage early in my military career I can tell you that’s it’s invidious and debilitating. Your stability, your confidence, your strength is all undermined, because you come back from your injury thinking you’re fine, then it slips out again…and again…then you start second guessing yourself. Then you start adapting your behaviour. 24 year old me would turn a cartwheel, do a handstand, reach my arm under low objects without a second thought. 45 year old me wouldn’t dream of it.

Pope has been excellent since he joined two years ago. To qualify consistently for UCL, we need a top European keeper and I think we all knew that.

Until Pope got injured, we only conceded 14 goals in 14 games, won 8, drew 2 and lost 4. At that point, we were 5th in the league, and had taken 6 points off the quartet that finished the season as the top four. That's point one, for those who are obsessed with goalies that can kick a ball like de Bruyne in his prime. My second point, is that Pope has done his shoulder before. The times he's saved us (and the stats above) show that you can come back from it. I can't remember where i saw it, but recently there was a specialist talking about this very injury, and he said it shouldn't be a recurring problem "as long as it's been fixed properly". Let's hope it's been fixed properly this time.

If it's remotely possible to get Mamardasvili this window then we must do everything we can to make it happen. He would be a brilliant addition to the team for now and going forward

I do agree it gives concerns of injury proneness to the board with our new ambition, i hope he keeps no1 but if we get someone who is better and outplays him in his position i feel bad for pope after everything hes done in our progression but in the sake of club progress i feel bad for pope but for the clubs future we have to prioritise progression over the players we love

I agree 100% Trafford is not the answer it's marmadashvilii all the way for me, however you just know it's gonna be Trafford coz howe prefers English

Aye, as the army fella below says, if ya pop ya shoulder it can happen again & again,, & its never 100% again in a majority of cases

I didn't know he had a shoulder history. Shoulders are tough ones to resolve. Edited: Does the large Georgian keeper speak English? I give Pope props, he's a great communicator. He has the trust of the team.

Just seen the PL have asked 6 clubs and we are 1 of those who have to sell b4 30th June for PSR b4 we breach….so is Pope and Miggy off-ski? 😮

If Pope comes back to playing how he was - he's absolutely quality. Better than Pickford by a country mile imo. Not sure he'd need replacing unless injuries / his heed was elsewhere or summat. I'd have a 6'6" highly rated 24 year old any day of the week though, so .. ?

I saw (part of) another video with Pete Graves who reckons we have £100m to spend this summer, but may have to let one go. Perhaps that one may be Pope. (Maybe also Miggy). Getting them off the books (with maybe £30m for the pair) would certainly help with going for Marmadashvili and others.

Off topic but one player you just never hear anything about is Matt Targett, WTF is going on with him, he is a total waste.

nick pope is excellent shot stopper but i doubt eddie howe signed pope for long term he is more of shortstop nick pope can make good saves but we all know he is a toddler with the ball on his feet its one of the reasons why we have low ball possessions everytime pope gets a pass he just hooves it no control ever

Big Pope fan but may as well pay the extra for Villi, seems one of those things where we can get a highly talented player for 10 years for what seems that sweet spot of £35m

I don’t think Pope would be a number 2 for us and trying to get a keeper in is he going to come if he’s not number 1

Need big mama in.. Pope is done... Time to be ruthless... Makes to many errors... To old cant kick or punch... Time to buy quality players...
