Historian Guy Nixon takes viewers just outside of Placerville, CA where an epic battle took place in 1848. Under the leadership of Chief Coppa Hembo, the defending Maidu and Washoe tribes used stone axes and poison tipped arrows to defeat the Valley Miwok raiding party that was seeking to capture and sell slaves to the mercury mines in San Jose.

Guy - I am friend and a fan of your sister (??) Jill. These videos of yours present an amazing piece of very little known El Dorado County History. Thanks for putting it out there. I've done a little research here, read quite a bit of Peabody, and have never seen what you are describing in your videos. (Actually Peabody mentions the talking rocks but also refers to them as rocks tribal leaders stood on to address their minions) I have shared some of your history with some respected local historicals and have gotten some pretty funny looks. But you know how judgmental history people (other than Jill) can be. I hate that attitude. Anyway, I'm wondering how you come to know all this stuff. I assume there's not a lost history book of Native American battle stories on your shelf. Is this oral history? From whom? Have you been able to validate it with other accounts? Just curious.

The music is louder than Guy's voice. Interesting, though.
