It is 2020 and I am an Alpha with 5mil skill points. I built this and used it the way you were here and it really changed my game when fighting. How much more fun than kiting! Someday I'll be a PVP player too.

You obviously have no idea about alpha play in this game. Ignorant omega-only players like you would typically advice alpha players to skill up asap for a Vexor Navy Issue for the dank afk ratting ticks. Not knowing that this ship is basically a piece of crap for alpha's because they can't use heavy drones.

Are you drunk? Because you talk like somebody who is. The VNI is used here because it's a popular example typically used by ignorant omega's like you. It's to illustrate that there is no such thing as just using an omega guide and "scaling it back" to be equally viable for alpha's. It's completely bullshit. But then again you wouldn't know that because you never played as an alpha .

I'm using a skin for the Merlin, the Valkyrie skin which makes it look somewhat like the Hawk.
