I am going to try this for my son's 1st birthday! So glad I found your video! Also love the idea of the paper template to cut the cake instead of cutting a square cake into 3 pieces and attaching them.
I feel like you could've been a little more colourful with the designing.. the cake was pretty but it was monotonous to make every single thing only 2 shades of blue. Plus, more color would have meant more challenge, and more training on how one can play around with colored fondant. Great video though!!❤❤ Good effort👏🏾👏🏾💯💯
Hi! I didn't fill the cake as it was only one layer, but you could make two layers and have a taller cake or split the one cake into two thinner layers. I think the tin was approx 12-inch x 16-inch but you can make you template fit whichever tin you have x
@@amarachiblessing8365 no, butter wouldn’t set so the fondant would slide around… if you don’t want to use icing sugar you could do a layer of chocolate ganache instead?
Jade Strevens hi, you can just cut the cake in half after cutting the shape, then fill... to make stars just use a star cutter instead of a circle cutter 😊
@@KatieHomeCook i havent attempted the cake yet but what would you recommend? Im doing a lego construction theme so if i do decide to do in bits i suppose i can cover the joins in the colourful icing blocks!
Heather Maclean I made a number 5 for an Avengers birthday and I did different colour panels www.katiehomecook.co.uk/cakes-by-katie?pgid=k6ql8bd0-08afba52-a2ae-422d-95bd-216353517432
Caz B just kneed it for at least 8-10 mins, then roll out larger than the cake, drape it over but smooth the sides quickly, don’t let the fondant hang for long as it can start to tear, do you cover you cake with ganache or buttercream?
Katie Home Cook awww thank you. I normally only kneed for a less than a minute normally too. Never knew you had to do it that long. I always thought the more you kneed it would get too tough it dry hahah. So thanks for that tip. I normally use butter cream.
