My family is Ukrainian, so I am not making any excuses. Whatsoever for Russia, but you can sort of understand why they are pissed that the US would have bases in Latvia, Estonia, and Lithuania, former Soviet countries. The US would be the 1st to complain if Russia started putting bases in Canada and Mexico. Hell, they were pissed at they tried to put one in Cuba right when they had a base in Turkey full of nuclear missiles.
I do not think that is very fair. The US only has borders with those 2 countries. Russia has borders with 14 I think. The three Baltic states were not part of the Soviet Union between 1918 and 1940. The borders that Russia has with these 3 countries is very small. The border with Lithuania(and Poland) is only because of the Kaliningrad enclave. This is not Russian land, it is German! The border with Norway is also small. As for the 800 odd miles border with new NATO member Finland, Russia only have themselves too blame for that.

The only place that U.S had a military base in Brazil was in natal in 1942 during the ww2, to fight German submarine forces in our coast, after 1946 the US military left the base for the Brazilian Air Force and since then never stablished a new one. As a Japanese person, I thought there were at most 30 military bases, but I was very surprised to learn that there are more U.S. military bases than any other in the world. Respecto a España esta información no está actualizada. Hubieron 4 bases militares estadounidenses: Torrejón de Ardoz, Zaragoza, Morón de la Frontera y Rota. Las dos primeras fueron abandonadas en 1991 y 1992 respectivamente y la base aérea de Morón de la Frontera pasó a estar bajo mando español tras el Convenio de 1998 aunque por el artículo 8 se concede a los estadounidenses el uso de instalaciones de apoyo.
En España nunca hubo ni hay bases militares de EEUU, todas son españolas. EEUU tiene presencia militar en 2 de ellas (Rota y Morón de la Frontera), pero la soberanía de dichas bases recae en España. Y el convenio data de 1988, no de 1998 😉.

D'ont know where you got your info but as a ex-soldiers from Canada I can confirm that we do not have any us base in Canada. We have a military radar in the north ( CFS Alert ) with maybe 50 to 60 US soldiers mix with us Canadian and that's it.

Costa Rica abolished its own Armed Forces in 1949. It also prohibited the presence or transit over its sovereign territory, territorial sea or airspace of any other foreign armed forces. It also has only 51,000 square kilometers of very mountainous territory. There is not enough countryside for even a single large military base, much less 5 bases.
