Short term, stretching the muscle can help an acute cramp. But it's more of an electrical problem... i.e. overactive nerves or an electrolyte imbalance. So finding the root cause is more important than doing exercises.

Thank you Dr. i have been constantly having lower left leg numbness when side lying on my left and whenever i flex my left leg. Its also very stiff and painful on my left knee when sitting for a long time especially when travelling. Its hard to find a good sleeping position because its very uncomfortable. If it's more knee related to your knee like bending it or sitting in the car, there are branches of your sciatic nerve near the knee. That sounds like the S1 nerve root distribution from the lower back. You'd have to have someone confirm that in person though.

Thanks for the video. I unfortunately can’t see a doctor anytime soon but I was wondering if sitting on my leg could be the reason for my leg numbness? I had been doing it for years (I stopped after my leg issue) but about 2 weeks ago my leg started going numb (the one I would sit on) whenever I would stand up after about 5/10 minutes. No numbness when I’m laying down or sitting though.

Sitting on your leg can be a factor that contributes to it, although there are likely other factors as well. 14 years ago I had brain hemorrhage I was hit at the back of my head at the right side, after my medication since then my right leg are permanently fell numb, my left foot and my left shoulder and because of that I can't run cause when I get tired I just fell down ..the doctor told me that i need to undergo for therapy but because of financial problem I dont make it till now do i still have a chance to cure it and what i need to do...thank you

Realistically after 14 years, a "cure" is highly unlikely. There's probably some chance to make some improvements that can improve your function and quality of life, but a full recovery after 14 years would be unlikely.

I’m 33 years old and have gone to doctors, specialists and had several tests done on me and they find nothing wrong with me except I have numbness on my right thigh sometimes and then numbness in back my legs and and sometimes on both legs from knee down and stops at ankles. You'd have to check with your doctor to figure out what specifically is causing your pain. If it's only when standing or walking for too long, it could be from your diabetes, but it could also be from another cause like spinal stenosis or peripheral artery disease - or it could be a combination of several factors. That corresponds with the femoral nerve from the L2, L3, L4 nerve roots. @@More4Life Thanks, I believe I caused all this from running heavy equipment, my right leg was bothering me when I sat so, I crossed it over my left leg for many hours in the day for relief. Sitting and bouncing with your legs crossed for 10 hours a day can't be good. Chiropractor said he has never seen a spine so crooked.

It depends on where the weakness and numbness is. Tarsal tunnel syndrome vs. L4 radiculopathy would be two things to rule out, but it could be other things as well. You'd need to see a healthcare professional in person to get an accurate diagnosis.

No. Numbness means you can't feel (or at least altered sensation). Cramps have more to do with involuntary muscle contractions.

Can nerve compression occur on both calves?! My both calves (L3) are numb for quiet while now. No swelling, no pain, no discolorization, just numb. I used to wear tight jeans before but I stopped it for good.

The jeans would have to be pretty tight to do that. More likely numbness in both calves would come from something else. You'd have to check with your doctor but some possible causes could be diabetic neuropathy, peripheral artery disease, or a lower back problem. Good luck!

@@superoli5308 the best thing to do would be to visit a medical professional in your area in person to get it examined. Numbness shouldn't last for several months, but beyond that, you'd need an examination to tell you the best course of action from there.

As a single cause, a central nervous system problem like a stroke or spinal cord injury could do it. Or, it could coincidentally be a pinched nerve in both the neck and the back on the same side of the body. Definitely something that warrants getting checked out in person though.

It's impossible to say for sure without knowing your case. Depending on how long you have numbness before surgery, it may take awhile to recover, and if they were numb for a LONG time before surgery, there's a chance that they may not recover fully. That said, aerobic exercise plus some of the other tips in the video can help, but it's a matter of to what extent. And unfortunately, time is the only way to tell.

"Burning" pain is a common nerve pain descriptor. If the actual temperature is also hot, you'd want to see your doctor about that... there are several possible causes but you'd want to rule out a blood clot or infection for sure, both of which would require seeing someone in person.

That's way more complicated of a question than can be answered over the internet. After 14 years, there's a good chance there is at least some permanent nerve damage.
