Actually, Seleucids can be won using autoresolves only, on vh vh. The hardest one are Numidian, Parthia, probably even Spain (for autoresolving vh vh).
Update: As of the Remastered version of Rome Total War, the Numidians actually have their own intro video now, as do all the other factions who didn't have such things before.
I'm my campaigns Cyrene seems to get taken quite often. Once I even saw Macedon take it (even though they hadn't expanded out of Greece by the time I reached them as pathia) which came as a mild suppose later when I came across their 62 year old faction leader alone in it when I had already taken over most the world.
Personlly I find Cyrene stays rebel for quite a while, but it certainly varies in each campaign. That's very interesting how Macedon took it in your campaign, ive never seen that before!
@@scroggin92 Give up Siwa to rebelion. Egypt will always declare war on you no matter what you do. Once they find you they will start sending 2 or 3 stacks to siege your cities. Just sell everything at Siwa and gather your units in a full stack to conquer Carthage.
It’s not impossible I survived a mass invasion using my army of javelinmen. Take the Egyptian cities quickly using cav is the best option if you live long enough.
Yeah Long Shields are good it takes ages to build infrastructure to be able to get the Sacred Band Cavalry. And fighting Rome time is certainly not on your side as the Gauls dont seem to do anything meaningful in terms of attacking the Julii and the Macedonians more often than not Ally with the Brutii on a Carthage playthrough.
Numidia doesn't have any line inf at the start of campaign, since they build javelins in first tier barracs. However, they can create foot archers earlier than anyone else, just from the basic muster field. This whole thing makes them very skirmish-heavy nation, with javelin cavalry, javelinmen and archers as a bulk of early army, with general bods as only melee heavy hitters. Their legionaris are just the same as pricipes but they have to be build in two turns, so I don't really see them worth it, especially since they need level 4 barracs. Much better would be to spam long shield cavalry. They are not the best in the game, but early on they do their work and can be mixed with javelin cavalry and archers quite nicely.
Numidia is pretty ok in single player if you know how to use skirmishers properly. In my opinion Numidia wasn't that hard or "bad" civ. I had much harder time playing Pontus. Nubian troops are very mobile which made beating the Carthage quite easy (phalanges are useless against skirmishers and light infantry if used properly). I pretty much ignored Egypt and let them take Siwa in the beginning. Then I took Spain and began to maul Scipio and Julius. Rome was captured pretty fast.
@@Usumgallu For Numidia units aren't the biggest problem. They don't have top tier units but if you are quick with your attacks you can maul down anyone. Their biggest drawback is their trash economy. I beileve they are the only civ in the game that can only build first level port. Not only does it mean that they are stuck with birems for the entirety of the game and at some point you won't be able to beat pirates or enemy fleets of equal numbers, but their income is greatly reduced as they get less trade routes. And in RTW maritime trade is the biggest source of income and the more trade routes you have the better. Time is not on Numidia's side as it hits its eco ceiling really fast while all other factions keep growing their eco further and further. That's why Numidia player has to be aggressive from turn one or else he will find himself with no money, surrounded by enemies, each one of which has better units, land and economy than he does.
@@VonKrauzer There is actually a loophole I found to this: any ports that your enemies have built that's beyond a stage one port will allow you to build higher tier ships. And while the Remastered version doesn't have too many changes that go in Numida's favor, they did fix the problem of only having lvl 1 ports, along with a few other things. Still a difficult faction to play, tho.
Little late but I disagree a lot what you said. If you play Numidia you have to rush Carthage and the Roman anyway. And you have no problem for Carthage to be a Huge City pre 250 BC. In my campain I have 2 12k+ pop city pre 250 BC which spam Numidia Legionaire. The thing is after the Roman gone , Numidia Principes is the most decent all around inf there is ( because the Seu usually got pwned by Egypt so there wont be any Silvershield) , so making armies of them is game winning. Another advatages of Numidia is the Camel Cav absolutely crush any other cavs . So a mid game holding center of principles and flank of camel/longshield will win you most battle since no cavs to prevent you flanking the enemy
When Gaul Seleucia and Scythia get going they are unstoppable but here you stay crap My best ever campaign with them was a fun stupid one where I spammed peasants and camels
When I was playing as Macedon Numidia took over Carthage and also had defeated most of Egypt's cities like Mephis, they expanded pretty huge towards Parthia. Altough I don't know why some factions play different, maybe because I play on the Mundus Magnus map.
Believe it or not, Camel units are actually very underrated, and I think the reason no one really rates them is because they're not a fast-moving cavalry unit. But if you think about it, do they *need* to be fast, given what their function is? They scare horses, so to me it sounds like they work mostly as a kind of anti-cavalry shock unit. That's how I've always played them, and it worked rather well. They can take on just about nearly any cavalry unit they come across, save for the heavily armored ones (like Cataphracts), because they break their morale and make the cavalry route. Then they can turn around and help strike enemy infantry from the rear before the cavalry can regroup. And by the time they do regroup, your main army (which are mainly spears and ranged units) are ready to help in crushing them.
I love playing as Numidia, I'll always try to invade Spain as early as possible it's just cool to see an Eastern faction fight off some Gauls or Britains.
I have never understood how the Seleucids are hard to begin with. You can build a blacksmith very early and get the OP scythed chariots. Levy pikemen smash most of the Egyptian infantry, whilst the Cretan and Rhodian mercenaries from western Asia Minor allow you to sweep that region quite easily. As for Parthia and Armenia, just play it defensively in Hatra and Seleucia until you can recruit better cavalry to take the fight to their lands
You can't get scythed chariots as Selucids. Everyone hates you and will attack you from everywhere. Phalanxes are good but money due to building troops can get difficult.
@@NotFinnish You can get scythed chariots as Seleucids (blacksmith). Here is the strategy I tested a few days ago after watching this video: Send the entire garrisons of Antioch and Damascus to take Sidon. Recruit 3 militia hoplites in Sardis, then supplement them with cretan archers/rhodian slingers and take Halicarnassus. Build blacksmith in Seleucia to train scythed chariots, then defend/sally forth to besiegers until you can recruit levy pikemen. By turn 6, you can take Jerusalem from Egypt and Pergamum from Greece, making you very wealthy. However, Hatra is VERY hard to defend against Armenia so it is probably worthwhile abandoning until you knock out Egypt through blitzkrieg
@@mercurius1877 I also go on the offensive against Parthians in the early game. Just have to wait for the garrison of Susa to leave for Arabia, then, the city becomes vulnerable. By the point you would move North to take Arsakia, you usually can get archers and Greek cavalry to counter their fast-moving troops.
@@laszlobencebari8677 I salute you. The Seleucid campaign is all about timing. Sitting back to build up your economy and military is suicidal. How do you deal with Egypt?
@@mercurius1877 Same as you. I go on the offensive, destroying them as soon as possible. While I hate blitzing - I rather like to roleplay more -, it is always beneficial to attack your neighbours first in Total War, should you have the resources. I basically start the reconquest of Alexander's empire by attacking the Parthians, Egyptians and conquering Halicarnassus in this case. Then comes Armenia and Pontus, then Greece (usually conquered by the Romans at this point).
Oddly enough, in my game Cyrene was taken by the Macedonians when they had nowhere else to go in Greece. I wasn't aware it doesn't usually become occupied
there's something up with them. I think Macedonia is actually programmed to try and take that settlement. if you look in the settlement they also often have a Macedonian temple present. Historically ofc alexander's Macedonian army conquered there so it does sort of make sense
Numidian is not that bad. The key is their Camel Rider which you can recruit early game after taking Carthage. That unit can win vs all other cav unit , which mean you always have cav superiority when playing Numidia. So mid game a holding line of Principles plus a cav forces consists both camel/longshield/generals can always win the cav battle then turn around to flank their main battle line
With Numidia, (on Very Hard/Very Hard) I found the militia cav, to be used as a horde after they have no more missiles to fire, then they alone can round up the exhausted enemy units, piece by piece. By doing this, I found it very easy to invade Sicily and Rome afterwards. I thought it would be very difficult, but I had no problems with the Romans in the early part of the game, destroying them with cavalry alone.
@@j3r3myyyyy but I've tried even cheating the population up to a huge city and instantly constructing all the buildings and still no Legionaries. I think it's a glitch with my game, thanks for the help anyway.
What you say in this video is funny because every time I play everything you say is unlikely to happen, happened! For example, that rebel settlement gets taken (by Macedonia in one game and Dacia of all people in another?) And every time I’ve played Numidia Egypt has attacked me almost right away!
