On April 3, 1946, Field Marshal Wilhelm Keitel commenced his Defense through the examination of his counsel. Dr. Otto Nelte. He testified how he tried to do his duty for 44 years and was convinced that the mass of German soldiers acted in good faith and loyalty. He tried to present the fact that he had no command functions and only transmitted Hitler's orders.
