@@loopvil369both corners are world class, Trevor Whitman was very very thorough and great advice but Sandhagen just didn’t seem to be able carry out the plan , whereas everything that Khabib and Javier said, Umar executed
No man he just barely edged out most rounds by landing small strikes with a little back control I assumed umar would dominate khabib style or get a sub but it was a huge jump in competition having never fought a ranked opponent so it was a pretty big win 50-45ing Cory is not common, u must be a casual
Plus he tore his groin & injured something else too in that fight then had surgery. He can fight again later this year, making it 2 fights in 2024 which is the norm for top ranked fighters.
These boys were off on a few different things they said this episode and didn't want to admit it. 3rd round drop lost Chito the fight. Although, the judge who scored 30-27 would've robbed him either way. First time Marlon has been dropped in the UFC, happened with a few minutes left in the fight.
Petr Yan beat Song Yadong on the same card as O'Malley's last fight, in March & we're in Aug, not bad at all. He tore his groin & injured something else too in that fight, then had surgery. He can fight again later this year, which 'll be 2 fights in 2024 & that's the norm for top ranked fighters. Take it easy guys.
Good morning from Miami! 🏝️This is the only podcast I literally wait for on Sundays. Thank you guys for bringing such a great MMA podcast that hardcores can enjoy. 🙏
@@WeighingIn I honestly thought Corey was going to be too experienced and long on the feet, Umar is a bad dude. The casual in me came out for a second 😂
@@Idaho4x4BroncoWhy do the Dagestanis and Khamzat always get their big fights in Abu Dhabi? Isn’t that an advantage over the U.S. fighters? Gaethje gassed against Khabib in 2 min, Corey looked slower than molasses on a cold day against Umar.
I felt like Corey gameplanned too much. His volume is a big part of his success. He clearly had a plan to stay outside the shot and move more. The problem was that he was falling behind doing that. He deserves a lot of respect fo taking a fight no one wanted though
I think that was really dumb of him to take a risky fight against a nurmagomedov who hasn’t fought a ranked opponent yet it’s like when yan took the fight against Sean at#12 while yan was #1 then petr wins and the judges still giv it to Sean Cory was right there next for the title
I think exactly how you do. You are not an ESPN paid employee who gets paid to watch fights on replay from 9-5 and neither am I, BUT. How is this not the top point other analysts talk about? I think Corey could have beat Umar if he fought HIS fight. MMA is a young sport and sometimes these athletes take too much information in and forget what THEY are good at.
There’s too many events too keep track of. I noticed even with the most knowledgeable and wise journalists they are starting to forget recent things more often. The over saturation of MMA is starting to kick in !
Petr Yan fought Song Yadong in March of this year (5 months ago) and he had a knee injury after that fight and needed surgery. Take it easy on trying to discredit Yan. Also even though he lost 3/4. Look at who he faced. Aljo, O'malley, Merab.
I take umbrage with that. Colby does NOT have the gift of gab. He TRIES to but he’s got the gift of handfuls of marbles in his mouth and the gift of forgetting his own pre planned lines lol
Umar is just on another level damn credit to Cory though what a brilliant fighter and was one of the only person to gamble on this type of fight knowing it's a Nomagamedov would like to see him come back stronger and Umar give him a title fight when he holds it some day
I wonder if umar even gets the title I expected umar to destroy Cory but it was very competitive I bet these top 5 guys could cause some trouble for umar P. S u must be a casual
Petr has also fought every 6 months from the Sandhagen fight except for the year he took to heal and recover after losing to Merab. Not the most active but he is more active than a lot of these top fighters. Also had to slow down a bit after that 3 fight skid.
Cory is man of people. Khabib/Islam/Umar/Usman are built different since born. Like uncle Mike Tyson built different in Bronx. I dont see they are loosing. Respect to Cory from Indonesia 🇮🇩 fans.
I never thought about this before, but watching this - referees who are in the cage are sort of like Gods in that moment. They have had to understand the sport on a level that all true fans of the sport strive towards, and they have to act on instinct. Big John McCarthy is the man - hearing him talk about his time in God Mode is always epic. ❤ Ur podcast here, thank you for allowing us go hear your thoughts. I might sound stupid, but it is worth it to show these man respect.
Peter is rank correctly. He fought 4 months ago. That is not inactive. Also Peter lost to the champion Aljo, to Murab who’s the #1 contender, and to Sean who’s a current champ and most people believe Peter won that fight. So yes, Peter is ranked #3 correctly.
Yeah coach Javier was telling him “believe in yourself now show him you been showing him that your better then him but really show him now that your better and he can’t beat you.” I was like let’s go
First round umar had nervous energy, rather than cory downloading info ,umar did this in the fight ,infact habib and javier did that for him thats why he was amazing in later round ,cory was walking him down in first round then umar was doing that in later rounds
The Yan hate is crazy. He beat suga in my opinion and many others opinions. Also just had knee surgery so not like he is just sitting out. Basically the only loss he really has is Merab.
The fight was boring, but Umar did beat Cory Sandhagen. Umar does deserve a title shot for sure. That being said, I think Cory Sandhagen should fight Chito Vera. That will be a good one. And that puts both of them in line to only fight one more time for a title shot.
All the pressure was on Umar, he was the favorite to win, if he lost this fight they would say its a fraud check and he is exposed etc, despite all the pressure, Umar put up a very good performance vs a top 3 level opponent, and not only that his cardio is tested in a 5 rounds main event fight as well. O'Malley wasn't favorite to win, he didn't have any pressure, and he arguably lose a 3 rounds fight vs Petr Yan, O'Malley didn't even have any 5 rounds main event fight until Sterling fight.
I think Merab definitely has better offensive wrestling than umar and that's going to make things more even in the stand up. Merabs awkward standup gives ppl problems
This sport people fight so infrequently it's not a shock a lot of fighters are in their thirties and forties. In the NFL certain positions at 25 the player is over the hill or very near it .
@WEIGHINGIN josh tompunk speaking about pound for pound. Yes Alex is taking fights & winning & great champion. but didn’t Jon do that for years, his body of work over his light heavyweight era was thrilling to watch .most was X champions, jon has caught who’s who. they way jon came into the division and Smoked everyone & his rise was thrilling to watch
Merab gets a shit load of take downs exactly because he does not hold people down lol. He will continue to put someone on the floor but he does not normally blanket dudes down. like Khabib or any of those guys.
1) if merab win does the ufc give a rematch? 2) omalley vs umar : omalley better striker than corey but less takedown defense. How does umar adapt to this. Omalley vs umar is more a banger 🔥 🔥
Petr yan fought In march on the O’Malley card. He said he tore his groin in that fight & needed to have surgery. He’s probably just getting back to training now.
Cmon.. you need to come up with a better argument than that. Its obvious they had a similar build and stamina because they fking did pretty much the same training with high intensity, not to mention the environment they were training.. the mountain in dagestan which is high altitude that makes it difficult to breathe
Their lifestyles also are the factors contributing to that. Its really frustating to see such bs claims to some fighters that work really hard... ofc its your choice to dislike some fighters but at least put some respect on their effort in the training to improve instead of blantanly accusing them like you did
@@fegrtgtrtrassass1457 Islam is one of my favorite fighters. Doesn’t mean he’s natural. Also you and I can do the exact same training regimen our physiques will still look different. Not to mention guys from that camp have popped. Not to mention Islam flatout way too yolked for someone with such a low body fat percentage. I understand it’s in human nature to give the benefit of the doubt, especially good people it’s what they do. But the more and more actual research you do, with open eyes and an objective mind, it only keeps becoming clear what’s going on over there. And I don’t blame them, tons of guys on all sorts of stuff in the UFC these days…
@@fegrtgtrtrassass1457 maximum discipline, the best training, the perfect martial art to start with, and modern science at its finest. They’re the whole package that’s why they’re unbeatable
What’s the point of watching you guys if you can’t get simple shit correct like Yan fighting on 299 and winning with a torn knee? You don’t remember he fought and are completely unaware he’s injured, but spend 5+ min talking about his ranking
Bro umar had little to no experience compared to cory. He was taking massive jump in competition. And he had lot of pressure and was holding a lot of back. If they rematch umar will dominate the shit out of cory
Rd 2 was the only one I could consider giving to Cory but still not enough. 50-45 umar. And Cory was openly frustrated and angry multiple times. He even thru his hands in the air after Umar took him down
By the time Umar fights for the title Sean will probably be retired. He only fights once or twice per year. Plus he might pull a Khabib and retire on top.
You should have listened to the Mexican broadcast in the Cory vs Umar fight… it was so biased they only praised Cory, my brother and I were joking by saying “sure he is making an excellent job blocking all those jabs with his nose”. Every time Cory landed one punch and Umar responded with 3 they only mentioned Cory like “oh what a great strike, he is doing such an excellent job, this is going to be such a tough fight for the judges” even saying that the number of strikes were so even, ironically when they said that the ufc put the number of strikes by round and Umar doble Cory’s.
