He is a gem. It's so nice that we have someone to advocate for us. No break rooms, no lunch, but at the same time... we get that 1/2 hour taken from our pay. So much. Keep putting it out there.

Blake is our hero. We nurses develop that warped, funny sense of humor and he took that and turned it into something so special! He now has his own magazine ,wine and the NursesCon cruises, on land and on sea. He’s a gem.. Hospital nursing is stressful on many levels, laughter is the best medicine! Love you Blake.. You too Elvis.

Nurse Blake is an icon. Found him in nursing school have been a big fan ever since. Keep talking about safe ratios!! It's why I left the hospital setting. Huge safety issue for patients and legal liability for nurses since they want to criminalize mistakes but not provide us the support for safe care.

It’s sad they blame Covid for nurse burnout. They just found out(admin) that we could get the job done short staffed because that’s what we do. So now they think we can continue working at this pace forever and they can get better bonuses. It’s ridiculous that people that don’t know the first thing about nursing tell us how to do our jobs. We know our job and give our best everyday. The screenlookers just need to stay in their offices they get to take breaks and lunch in and let us do our jobs. Not bitter at all!🩺💕

Nurse Blake makes us laugh AND advocate for our nursing profession. He is great! Loved "Happy Friday means absolutely nothing (to nurses)" How is it living with a critical care nurse? The other day my 4 year old daughter fell, so I asked her if she was okay and if she needed a bandaid. She replied "I don't need a bandaid mommy, I am not bleeding" And to Elvis and the whole morning show family I would like to say that I started listening to you guys when I started working the night shift for the second time, but in a location that was farther from my house. You guys keep me laughing and awake. Now I have a 1 hour and 20 minutes commute every morning after my night shift. I leave work exhausted and you are the ones that keep me awake and safe from any car accidents. Thank you!

I was just in the hospital for 5 days and I can attest, not one of my nurses ever took a break or lunch. I know because I had a lot of meds to take, a lot of them PRN, so I was pressing the call button a lot. I always heard, if they weren't available to me, where they were. It was a small hospital, with one floor for both regular patients and ICU patients so I could hear their voice and footsteps. And I was a CNA (yes, full moon craziness is real, i worked at a psychiatric facility and OMG, people be crazy(er) on full moons) at a nursing home and a patient "fired" me. A little 90 yr old woman who was a constant call light presser, and if no one showed up, she would start calling 'Help, Help'. Everyone knew this, nurses and CNAs alike. One day, it was super busy. New admits, people needing sponge baths, all sorts of things, so this little lady was in a huff and almost hysterical. Next day I go in and am told I've been taken off my regular hallway because this woman complained, and everyone knew there was nothing I could have done about it; I didn't ignore her. I went in her room a reasonable amount of times. I also have been the recipient of a 'pierwick' female catheter (a cath that is not put inside you). In nursing homes, (my mother was in one and had it) they call it "The Banana", lol. I love you Nurse Blake! FYI - I live 60 miles from Seattle but have been to Harborview many times (I've heard you worked there) to see specialists, have a minor procedure done, or just accompanying my mom there. All of the Harborview nurses, doctors, and staff are great!

As one who has been in the hospital more than 20 times, I truly believe nurses need a lounge more than a doctor because they do more. They are the ones who interact with the patients, do the IV's, and respond to emergencies. I might see a doctor for 5 minutes daily, but nurses I see constantly. The best nurses are the ones I can pick on and they will just laugh. Oh, and just a bit of information. If you are in the hospital and your IV alarm goes off because your medication bag is empty, give it a couple of minutes. If a nurse doesn't respond, then hit the button and let them know. DO NOT KEEP PRESSING IT. A nurse will come. Sometimes a nurse has 15 patients because they are alone or one of 2 for the floor. And they do not always hear the alarm. The alarm is loud in the room, but if the nurse is on the opposite end, they will not hear it.

Med room or storage rooms! When you need a moment! The ability to hold a straight face until you get out of a pt room! Finding your partners in crime to vent laugh or cry! 24yr we are just a little twisted! Not everyone can talk about body functions and eat at the same time!

I might get a 30 minute lunch break during my 12 hour shift. I emphasize “might.” I once had a meeting with my manager and told her that because we were so short staffed I was unable to take lunch breaks because it would create an unsafe environment for the other nurses and my patients. Her response was for me to go in the break room and take my 30 minute lunch but bring my hospital issued phone with me in case I needed to be called for an emergency. I’m thinking how can I in good conscious do that? I worked in the ICU with very unstable patients who would not be watched by a nurse while I was on my break, because the nurses were so extremely busy with their own patients. Also, the 30 minute lunch break is deducted from my paycheck. I remember that at this hospital during this time it was expected and acceptable to clock out for your 30 minute lunch break, set a timer on your phone for 30 minutes and continue working then go back in 30 minutes and clock back in. My manager without saying that wanted me to do the same. I remember that since I was a new nurse, it was hard to go against the norm and I actually did that for quite a while until I wised up. If I am working during my 30 minute lunch I guarantee, I will get paid. This was pre-Covid and at a large hospital.

8 med/surge patients? I WISH I had only 8. 20 years ago when I worked on a combination neuro/uro/colorectal surgical unit (nights) we had 26 bed units with 2 RNs and a tech. 13 patients each. I only lasted 15 years there before going to long term and hospice care at the VA

We NEVER took ONE DAY off either. Was a nurse in a hospital but now phlebotomist for a lab. We didn’t take a day off either. When I was in the hospital we had no break’s really and we used to kid that we should just be catheritized each shift with a leg bag to pee.
