The nursery hunt is so addictive to watch.. it's like one of those shows on tv, such as storage wars, where you just can't wait to see what gets uncovered. I never would have thought it would be so easy to watch 2 straits hours of bonsai content. Thank you for your great content!! Oh, and it would be nice if you disclosed how much you spend on the specimens you find on your nursery hunts.

God, i want to be sitting at my local nursery as they unlock the gates. such an amazing series so far, all be it 4 years late. just in these last 2 videos my mind has been rewired to what the concept of bonsai is or should i say can be. i think im gonna back track and look at the scotch pine vid, because in the back of my mind for awhile now i have wanted to start a 5 needle pine next year. Thanks Ryan, Kendal and crew

Amazing... I'm still in my first year of Bonsai... and my tree collection has grown from 3 to 30 over the course of the year.... mostly from nursery stock. I'm starting to get more confident in making bigger cuts and thinking about years down the road. I've seen large material at nurseries that I thought would have great potential, but wasn't sure how I would handle them. This was a great video. I'm going to have to consider joining the Mirai stream service.

It's good to know that with your busy schedule you take the time to respond to your subscribers and viewers. It shows that you are a person who understands the concept of gratitude. You use your talent and knowledge to GIVE freely. I wish all the blessings of God come to you and your family. During my years in college I started my voyage in the wonderful world of bonsai. Many years and much money were wasted. I gave up and moved on with my career, nurturing a family and staying happy with outdoors gardening. Accidentally I found your channel and I have to admit You managed to teach me more in two hours that I learned in ten years worth of bonsai seminars, trial and error etc etc. { Same scenario with orchidsl} Long story short, the bonsai "industry" wants the people to get involved and get started and keep trying, while they purposely withhold important information/details, thus the average Joe can never have succes in the art of bonsai. A lot of people, including myself find bonsai a soothing calming serene activity that keeps me in touch and in harmony with the universe. Unfortunately at this point in my life I can't afford to start my favorite activity again. The cost of the tools and materials alone and then the specimens it's prohibitive for me. So am pleased and thankful that I can watch someone as knowledgeable as yourself do the job. Stay kind, helpful, giving, simple, and in the wings of Angels. Thanks again.

Amazing video. Loving the nursery stock series as its more realistic for those who are on a budget or just starting out and don't want to run the risk of paying the big bucks for something that could possibly die until the correct knowledge has been acquired. You've gained a new sub here and currently looking into joining Mirai website for more content. Greeting from Oz.

This was a great demonstration. I am now a fan and subscribed. I am currently working on a windswept coastal forest arrangement made with 7 staked upright, procumbens nanna junipers. Based on your demonstration, I seem to be on the right track. I am looking forward to updates on this Criptomiria. My inspiration is taken from Monterey California and Emily Car paintings. My project will be a large bonsai I will eventually plant in a rough cut 4 x 7-foot Cedarwood pot painted a bright red. My junipers are still in individual growing containers and will be for a couple more years.

Awesome new series and perfect of us mere mortals that aren't rich and can't afford expensive real bonsai at bonsai-nurseries. Here's another suggestion: This option is even more affordable than regular-nursery stock: Pencil-thick and "Pre-Bonsai" ...which I think is probably even more common and done than already-grown nursery stock (for beginners at least). Can you please make a video on how to develop and train a black pine (and making an upright juniper too) from a very young stage, pencil-thick sapling? Almost all YT videos are only about maintenance, pruning, styling, etc. an already very old developed tree. e.g.: - When only 16-24" tall and only Pencil thick, do I 100% completely leave it alone until it gets to a desired thickness, height and to a desired length of branches? - Is it okay to start trunk-chopping (to start a "kinked-trunk" early on), candle pinching (to start ramification and/or kinked branches very early on), training with wire, etc. when pencil-thick? - What should I do to get to a desired height or length of branches (especially for niwaki/garden JBPs)? Leave it alone, or re-direct growth to certain areas by candle pinching other areas? - Should I let it grow long, leggy and lanky until desired length? - Should I candle pinch the few excessively strong long candles to balance the tree when pencil thick? Me..I want to make garden/niwaki JBPs.
