Hi I’m currently in school for MSN informatics. Loved that your content pertains and sheds light on informatics. Would you happen to know of anybody willing to precept for the 200 hours practicum
In December, I will complete my MSN in leadership/management. While I don’t have clinical experience I’m hoping to start my nursing career in nursing/clinical/healthcare informatics.
I hope you find something! Of course, clinical experience will definetly enhance and support you in Informatics. But just an entry level opportunity to work with healthcare data I think is a great start
I imagine this is common for a lot of nurses and likely recommended...at least to have a good # of years of nursing practice. I was a nurse for 9 years before really transitioning, just majority of that time in outpatient
@dabidrobinson Awwn, how have it been so far? I have been a Nurse for the past five years. I want to be able to make similar statement in one year time🙏🏻
Hello! I am a dentist from India. Looking into health informatics - I have a few doubts. Could you please share your 2 cents on these. 1) Do you think health informatics is going towards saturation in US like MPH ? 2)How many professionals are required in a company/organization?....I would like to understand the requirement for health informaticians 3)With recession scare, how is this impacting this industry?....also to what extent?...since we would not be frontline workers in industry...Are we the first ones to get affected?
Hi Mamta :) I have some immediate thoughts. 1. Though I do not have an MPH (I have an MSHS w Informatics Concentration), I don't think this area is over-saturated. With technologies constantly changing and healthcare advancing... I'm not seeing how it could! 2. This one's a pretty broad question and health informaticians can span a great deal. But I can say that it's not exactly like the requirements of education you had to complete for dentistry. Educational options are more flexible (and maybe even certifications could work) depending on where you want to concentrate 3. In my opinion, No way! I read an article recently...(video to come soon!)
Thanks so much, what certification can i get enrolled that could transit me to health informatics since i am just a nurse with no knowledge about how the computer works.
I love this question. Because it’s so nuanced and I’m not going to pretend I can answer this simply through a RU-vid chat. But I’m going to use this question for an oncoming video. Subscribe so we can talk more about it! But in summary, you don’t have to have knowledge about the computer and some easy transferable skills or certifications you may have a good start/ low entry requirement with are change management or project management certifications
Hi! I’m hoping you’ll see this, what schools/programs do you recommend? I was going to go through Chamberlain, but then I heard mixed things! I have no idea where to go or start!
Hi Kayla! To be honest, I can't even begin to direct you on where to start education/program wise. Buut, I can say that when I started my program... it was called "Nursing Leadership in Healthcare Innovations"- Not even MSN in Informatics. So maybe request the actual curriculum to some of these programs and compare the classes they are offering to see what intrigues you! Go to this list I made too (A Niche with a Niche - linktr.ee/brienna) of just some basic concepts that are likely covered under some of these curriculums.
Mam can you plz make a vedio on how to study a health informatic course in usa after nursing in India and scope of a health informatics job thankyou if you are making a vedio or plz try to give a rply to this comment
Hello; I hope this video answers some of your questions - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-m_NWeE4kjCI.html Please let me know if you are looking for further clarification
I’m currently in an ABSN program and my first bachelors was in Data Analysis so I’m already proficient in Access, Excel, Power BI, Tableau, etc. I was thinking of doing informatics part time. Do you think it would be possible out of school or should I get some clinical experience in my chosen specialty first?
My first degree is in Economics and I learned the same in addition to R, Stata, and SAS. I picked up Tableau during my time as a research assistant in business development.
Do they have opportunities for LVNs with extensive clinical experience who’s also super tech savvy? I would love to be in informatics as I work on my RN.
Hi Anne, I would like to say Yes! What that might be exactly...I don't know. I didn't think I was headed in the right direction until I started fine tuning some technical skills and marketing it on my resume. Turns out, my clinical background was just the benefit to my current employer on top of having some basic technical skills
Love the video very helpful. I am currently working on my master's degree leadership/education. I'm not very far along. Do you think it matters that my master's degree is in leadership/education and not in informatics?
Hi Audra, that's a good question. I think that with a leadership degree it definitely does NOT make you less marketable to do Informatics. I think that as you work and figure out how your leadership experience contributes to technology in your specialty (if it really does interest you), you can still make that pivot with that Master's degree. Hope that makes sense what I'm saying...
Hi Jessica, I believe I see both a tip (Thank you!) and attempted download from you. I sent an email to the address provided but it bounced back. Try again entering a correct or new email. If you still havee no luck, please send me a direct email to esupport@werekrut.com and I will forward you the file.
Thank you Brienna for a very informative video. I have a bachelor of science in respiratory care and master of public health. I wanted to start my journey in the healthcare/public health informatics. However, I am not sure where to star. I am debating if I should get a certificate in public health informatics. What is your recommendation to get my feet into informatics?, thanks !
Hi, it does not require that. If you want to be more technical and do coding you can but definitely not a requirement. Think workflows, quality improvement, and how technology helps. This video might give you a bit more thoughts about coding and clinical documentation though!; Nurse Coding, Risk Adjustment, and the stuff in between! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-C2y5ZEe5gSo.html
Hi Bethany, no worries. I’ve helped others in finance update their resume for other finance specific jobs as well. To connect with me on tailoring your resume visit this link; ko-fi.com/s/506a20d57f
Hi Brienna, your video is very informative, i am currently applying for masters of science with concentration in health informatics. I learnt i will be getting a graduate certificate, does it matter that it is a graduate certificate?
Hey there, I actually started off with a graduate certificate in my journey. What it did for me was give me a better understanding of the world of health informatics...but not necessarily a specific skillset to walk away with to apply in a specific job. It was great for me because I didn't have much insight before. You don't know where you want to go if you don't understand the world. It that sense, it may or may not matter depending on what you'd like to accomplish.
Hey Criss, you often do need a Nursing Informatics degree to work in Nursing Informatics. But not every nurse working in a nursing informatics role has this degree either.
@@_mshsrn Hey Ms.Brienna. I'm having difficulty downloading on both my MacBook and iMac desktop. Can you please send directly? You're very welcome for the support as your content is vey informative!
Im a bsc nuse and my daughter is a dentist fresher from india... please let me know what is the basic difference between health informatics and bioinformatics and which one u suggest for my daughter? And me?
Hey! Thanks for commenting! I don’t know much about bioinformatics but from my basic understanding that area is a lot more research involved and gets into the nitty gritty of biology. I think if your daughter likes research, math, technology then that would be a good fit for her. It is subjective so I dare not suggest what I think might be better!
And the same for you in that it is subjective, but you can absolutely look into nursing informatics since this is the specialty specific to your degree!!
Hi! Generally speaking, it's not required. Many nurses have started specifically in nursing informatics by simply hounding thier informatics department in a hospital setting or by just starting in more technical type jobs that utilize thier nursing specialty knowledge. On the other hand, some have found luck once they got thier Masters while others have a Masters and still can't seem to grip some work
Start early! Figure out what you like about informatics or health IT space first. Hardware? Software? Just leadership? Data collection or analysis? Electronic healthcare system building? Whether you do know or don’t know, you can probably think about a health informatics certification at a university. It might be a good introductory with less educational requirements for entry.
