A Jefferson Parish family is devastated after Wildlife and Fisheries told them they need to give up the internet-famous nutria. But fans are fighting back.
Nutria is the best tasting meat. Used to eat it a lot when I lived on the water. Caught a baby Nutria crossing the river and picked it up and made it a pet . Name was BooBoo and it got into everything. Never tried biting me. Makes a sound like a baby .
I wish people would stop saying "invasive"; it makes it sound like Nutria Legionnaires came marching in. Can we just say "imported" or "migratory" instead? The Nutria are thriving in an area that regularly takes a beating from the weather. They adapted and thrived. So... we bring back payment for tails? Lordy. Maybe folks will just cut off the tail and let the Nutria go. Then you get the bounty without punishing a species for succeeding.
