The amount of nonsense comments below are staggering. It's sad because there are people who are truly trying to change their lives and are dedicating their lives to change their health for the better. To comment for the sake of badgering(or known as HATING) is the backbone of why there are so many people who seek for help and fail to get good info and end up having measly results; they fall victim to stupidity at its best with comments you see below. I am not saying you can't disagree or question someone's statement, but to comment without any proof to backup your challenge is justification of such harmful acts. You never judge a tree by the fruit it talks about, but rather by the fruit it bears, and but the looks of Jim's rep and clients, he is bearing tasty fruit and some of the people below... Not so much. Thanks for the great info Jim and helping to change people's lives!

Glad I watched this. I've been doing the shred workout but not consuming nearly enough protein which explains why I've been so sore. I've been running in place between every set and skipping my usually 20 to 30 minute cardio afterwards and I can tell you shit is intense. Loving it so far now to try to follow the diet a little closer.

I am in a caloric deficit, and I do lose weight steadily. What I meant was that when I am eating too many carbs, all of my weight loss appears to be from muscle loss. Right now 30/35/35 carbs/protein/fat ratio is working quite well. Still gaining muscle while burning fat. I will definitely look into the "lean gains approach" that you mentioned

First I just wanted to say, this program is truly one to follow, due to the fact Jim Stoppani gives a brief overview of proper nutrition and breaks down to it critically on the reasons why certains food are consumed for higher gain. In other words he backs up the science on it. The same with Ben Pakulski... But on the other hand, Kinobody.. I did Kinobody or (intermittent fasting), and I had such outstanding results the first month, I shredded fat and lost so much body fat, alrhough, after trying to get back to my daiky eating, my metabolism plumetted, and everything I eat was completely stored as energy and fat. This happened because when the body senses it's starving after a period of time it goes into a "famine" state and stores everything you eat.. But anyway, just saying, DO NOT DO INTERMITTENT FASTING, and stick to programs like these that truky give the science behind it.

Brett, your body weight is a function of calories. You are most likely in a caloric neutral state if you aren't losing weight. Cutting back carbs will reduce calories because in the typical "healthy" diet for most Americans, the majority of calories come from carbs. Those who don't eat as "healthy" probably split the majority of their calories between carbs and fats. Carb timing is also incredibly important for body composition. I don't want any carbs pre-workout...but I want a TON post workout.
@aaronf.186

They overdid it with the science lab theme...eggs in petri dishes, retro ekg monitor...c'mon. Just say you're in the business of selling supplements.
@BasedDad35
@BasedDad35 7 лет назад
Aaron F Well you are just ignorant or not very bright. Any dumbfuck can "sell supplements" but if you were paying attention you would know Stopanni is a legitimate PhD. His workout, diet and supplement programs are actually backed by years of research which was conducted IN A LAB similar to the one in the video. Stopanni has dedicated the last 20 years to the research and actual science behind building muscle and losing fat.

i dunno if he answered this cuz i didnt get if u drop ur carbs intake to 0.5 per 1 LBS.. is that amount enough to fuel up ur muscles n save the muscle from the great need of ur body to consume the protein in ur muscle to break it into glucose for energy, thats so much info in 1 video ,, this guy got a point n makes sense
@Exodous26
@Exodous26 11 лет назад
Replenishing muscle glycogen isn't just about getting energy back for the next workout...replenishing that muscle glycogen quickly through carbohydrate ingestion aids in muscle recovery (growth). Glad you mentioned insulin...but don't think you went far enough to explain this anabolic hormone. Most people have no idea that when you spike insulin, you can't burn fat.
@GEOLonghorn
@GEOLonghorn 11 лет назад
Everyone knows when cutting you lose muscle mass. The goal is to try to preserve as much as you can. For my particular body type, I think what happens is this; more carbs means less fat intake, as I try to get about 1g/lb protein. These extra carbs spike insulin, thus leading to excess fat storage. So when I cut carbs back more and replace with fat (or more protein) my body reacts better, less fat/more muscle. But everyone is different

The reason for the gummy bears is they're basically pure maltodextrin. Carb powder is pure maltodextrin. So it's theoretically effective in replenishing glycogen, but obviously too much will cause fat storage

@Exodous26
@Exodous26 11 лет назад
What you probably want is a good calorie cycling strategy with no cardio. You lift 5 days a week, rest 2 days and go low calorie/low carb on those days. Adjust your total caloric intake for the week based upon your weight loss/weight gain goals. You throw in intermittent fasting (specifically the leangains approach) and you'll get the best results of your life.

As a doctor i agree with everything you’ve said until you mentioned that carbs are bot essential to the body. The brain only runs on carbs. Sure you can convert fat to glucose but still it proves that the body needs carbs.

Agreed. I can't cut fat unless my carb intake is under 150g per day, I weigh 215 lbs. No matter what I do, if I go over 150 g carbs I start to store fat. I can increase cardio, but I end up losing muscle while gaining fat.

It kinda does matter. Consider the following: a man trains early in the morning. When he wakes up, his glycogen levels are fairly low, so before he works out he gets some carbs and protein in him. Then post workout, they're low again so he eats more carbs (protein is eaten with each meal). Unless he's planning to go to the gym twice, he doesn't need to replenish his glycogen stores until the next day, so the best bet would be to consume protein and fat for the rest of the day (plenty of veggies)

1 - Fructose molecules directly goes to liver and liver converts them to glucose to only replenish it's own glycogen stores, not for the muscle cells. The exess amount of fructose is converted into triglycerides and stored as fat in the adipose tissue. 2 - Since the sucrose is a combination of 1 molecule of fructose and 1 molecule of glucose, gummy bears that has 21 grams of sucrose in 40 grams of its serving, do not sound to be a pure glucose source, right Jim? Scientist, eh, don't think so.

Interesting. As long as you are putting enough load on muscles, ingesting enough protein, and getting enough recovery/sleep, the majority of your weight loss is not likely muscle, unless your macronutrient timing is bad (not enough protein/carbs in optimal post workout window). Now, when you lose weight quickly, it is typical to lose both fat and muscle, simply due to the caloric deficit. However, I don't see any realistic scenario where eating too many carbs causes you to lose more muscle.
