I've been using this for more than a year and it's been my most reliable piece of effects on a live setup. I have a full analog pedal board too but I think a lot of people who have have some live performance snafus on those. This is integrated and consistent. No complaints. The only thing this misses for my preferred guitar tone is a compressor and wah. You can get some compression from the od, but the attack is not as consistent as using a stans alone dyna comp (or the like). So for now, I just use a wah and compressor attached to the cerberus in serial (before the OD) and given the 9v power (which is a bloody masterstroke), everything works with my usual 1-spot! Great review. And I highly recommend too!
Shane. Thank you! Mine arrived this morning. An "old guys" dream! Took me three minutes to find some great tones. Another hour or so watching youtube demos... I think I found my dream rig! Tomorrow, I'll be checking out the 4 cable setup. I know you said it was a little challenging to use but, compared to my Boss GT-1, it's a piece of piss! ... and to my ears, it sounds better! Thanks mate.
Here you go if you want to skip ahead! Final thoughts at the end. Time Codes: 0:00 - Backing Track Jam (using stored presets I made) 1:40 - How it works (some of the many features) 3:12 - Boost, Overdrive, Distortion (and some reverb) 8:13 - Modulation effects, delay, and Reverb 13:53 - Stacking high gain tones with Delay and Reverb 15:43 - The Pros and Cons of the NUX Cerberus
Dude this is the best multi-integrated-effects, I used it to play live all the time, just plug it in to the front house of the bar I work at, and it sounds a-freaking-mazing, and it's the easiest pedal ever, there are just 4 stompboxes and the overdrive and distortion are Analog, they're based on the Morning Glory and Angry Charlie, or maybe clones, the Impulse response loader it's amazing, I bought some Celestion Pro I.R.'s and this thing sound better than a mic'd amp, (in almost all cases), only downside for my it's that it doesn't have any control for the clean sound, so I depende on my I.R and mixer eq to make it sound good, then workaround the eq and volume of the OD and DIST, overall it's amazing, and it sounds incredible in front of a fender type amp, 100% recommendation!!!!
Have you tried the 4CM? There was lots static on 2 units I sent back. I like the idea and sounds but the static was very noticable using 4CM through tube amp.
@@studiosrevolver hmm... Interesting. I may give it another shot. Amazon will deliver to my door tomorrow. It could have been my tubes were bad since I recently replaced the stock ones and it sounds a lot better. So the 4CM is guitar--->Nux input (far right)Nux out--->front of tube amp...Nux FX send out--->tube amp FX loop return...Nux FX in--->tube amp FX send
@@studiosrevolver well, wish me luck. I just ordered another one lol.. The good reviews and videos can't ALL be wrong! BTW..the Bugera V22 is a very good sounding amp!
@@studiosrevolver hey man after changing out the tubes and trying it straight through front of my 15 watt Monoprice amp I am in love! The sounds I'm hearing are inspiring and it's very easy to use. I can get any sound I want out of this little magic box! Thx for the post. It encouraged me to give it another try!
Shane, the Thunder from Down Under - your videos have reached a ‘pristine’ level of production and quality. You certainly well deserve any and all blessings (proceeds ;-) that result from your efforts. Top Notch, the Bees Knees, etc. You’ve been at it a while, a 5 year old video just passed through my recommended :) Thanks for everything!
I found the comment about being hard to use is both a yes - and no. Yes, if you want to create individual patches (that you can put in edit mode and modify on the fly) - that is a bit tricky to get the hang of, but once you understand how it works, its not too bad. But, if you use it like I do, which is like individual pedals, then it is super easy. Just turn the knobs where you want them and then hit the foot switches to turn on and off. Easy! I also run a fuzz (Barber Trifecta) and a Mini Dunlop Wah in front - and I am good to go! Bottom line is that if you go the easy route, then I would highly recommend it.
After 40+ years of playing (on-stage and off), I finally bought a Telecaster! LOL! FedEx delivered it yesterday and I love it! What a versatile guitar - even with the stock pickups! All these years and I finally play a Tele! I was basically a Strat/Les Paul guy and even had a Flying V and Explorer once. I also bought my first SG in December of 2018. I can't believe what I was missing!
It's a great grab 'n go, very handy if you need to DI. The overdrive is kinda "meh", and the MIDI isn't "full MIDI implementation" as advertised but the rest is A-OK, considering the price. I still use my own vibe, and a flanger in front of a couple of Overdrive pedals and a Fuzz, before the signal gets to the NU>X. But it's fine on its own. If you're going to DI with this, a preamp type pedal in the loop is necessary. But the IR cab sims are pretty darn good!
I’ve never been a fan of all in one pedals mainly because I prefer using effects individually to attempt to craft my tone. That being said I do enjoy the tones of the NUX pedal. All the effects sound great and I don’t even think I would need to add more tone polish to my guitars!!!🤣🤣🤣 Seriously, out of the other multi effects pedals you’ve reviewed, this one would probably be the best of all. Now where is the button for the Talent Boost? 😂Great review Shane!!!! Cheers!🎸🎸🤙🏾🤙🏾🤙🏾
It would be nice a 2nd video more focused on going direct (IR loading, etc). The one thing I wonder about this unit, because I've not seen in any review is how will it sound with a preamp/amp in a box type of pedal in its own loop, after the OD/dist/boost section, especially for clean (-ish) sounds, since it has no amp modeling per se. Maybe you can check it with your american sound pedal if you still have it laying around. Something like that could add a wide array of tonal options to the unit and won't break the bank
There's so much to cover this video took so long to do as it was. I'm might do a follow up video and see if we can get some samples of that out there too.
I find that it needs a preamp in the loop (if you are DI'ing). I use the Behringer clone of the old Tech 21 Sansamp. I have the AC Tone and California Sound - might give one of them a try. The American Sound is probably the best out of that range, I'd like one of those, and the British.
Exactly what i was looking for hearing . i have the Joyo AS. Maybe buy the AC Tone i dont know and through nux cerberus maybe a wonderful live set up!!!???
Had the pedal for several months, worked like a charm. Used it standalone or in an amp, but then winter came.. the pedal froze 3/3 times in live outdoor situation. Then it would work again in indoor situations. Sold it. The temperature in question is anything bellow 5°C/ 41°F.
I plugged in for the first time today and was well impressed with the tones coming out of this baby - and that was after i just restrung my grandsons old Washburn. Next time I'm gonna try my Yammy 502v. Cant wait. Excellent demo Shane.
@@cathystegall4065 - first input on the back under overdrive / Distortion info. if you haven't got an amplifier, just plug in headphones next to the DC9V socket. Good luck
I've this effect board for about a year , great tones, and easy to pick up on the fly for rehearsals, i was a little hesitant to use it at a live gig, i convince myself to use it, and it delivered. I still occasionally play live it it, but still prefer my pedal board. Otherwise Nux have done a fantastic job in this all in one.
The people that complain about no comp, there is some mini pedals out there for less than 50 bucks, plus the 5 way plug assembly. Most people don't get into comps anyway.
That's the best t-shirt I've seen for yonks, yowies are real, I know 21 October 2019 between Maryborough & Howard QLD I saw one fair-dinkum dead-set paradigms smashed like plates at a Greek wedding!? Is that the coveted Hide n'Seek World Champion Cup I see 'Patty' riding Nessie's back holding proudly aloft? Didn't do that good a job did the jet black one I saw leap from a tree that October arvo in 2019, spotted & everything I knew was taught & believed about the Aussie bush goes right out the window, 4 decades of bushcraft reduced to meaningless crap in seconds as meltdown on many levels ensued. I didnt know whether to laugh or cry when I saw the yowie - so I did both, dead set freaked me out severely on many levels. Anyhow, this 3-headed hound from Hell of a pedal is the ducks NUX! Gotsta gets me a NUX asafp, these OD tones are obese, Shane! Thanks for gr8 videos & sensible no b/s advice for beginners garden-variety & dinosaur guitarists like me alike. Peace respect & far too much rock n roll is nowhere near enough. I write this comment on Kabi Kabi land. P.S. RESPECT all WOMEN. or f off.
Great review Shane, thanks! I have got this multi-effects platform since a while now. Fully agree with you as it is definitely not a "plug and play" device, more "plug, read and play" (or even "plug, sit, read and play") thing! The fact, I am still in search of some of its secrets, this is how I fell on your video.. I think you learned me a few things, but I still need to dig into the documentation to really get what I need to know. The rest in terms of tones and sounds is pretty convicing I agree. Thanks again! And by the way: cheers from France ;)
I've had a cerberus for about year and a half, and you can't go wrong with it. Been playing my tele with it and so excited to switch to a humbucker picker to get more grit and low end overdrive tone.
Thanks for the review. This was my first ever pedal and the attraction for me as a newbie was that it had many of the pedal effects I would need in one spot, for less that AUD$350. It’s even less than that now! I agree with others who have commented that it would have been nice to have a compressor and noise gate, but man, where does it end?
Been running through multieffects peddles trying to decide what suits my playing and decided on the nux cerebrus. Love the fact it's all analogue and can run the od and distortion in the front and modulations through the effects loop. I was sold lol so thank you for the informative video. Love your channel! Cannot wait to play with the nux and the amp I'm recieving, which is the blackstar HT club 40 Mkii black and blue edition. I'm stoked!!!!!
Always find these things a huge disappointment usually but not this little baby. Bought one a few months ago and love it. Sounds good through PA and even better through my Blues Cube amp. Cannot fault it really for the price. Astonishing value and very well made. Get one !
Spring Reverb sounds great and the boost option is interesting. Distortion is not too fizzy and seems very adjustable. Chorus is good. I just got NUX's Core Looper - they give you a lot for the money. Ordering the effects in the chain is an important feature. I personally have the Zoom multi-effects pedal and your comment about learning to tweak them is spot on. Frankly, it is much more feature rich than this one but also probably more expensive.
@16:10, you said that NUX Cerberus is not for someone who likes "straight-ahead" pedals. Please kindly give us your suggestions of a "straight-ahead" multi-effects pedals that is easy to use and which are not complicated. Many thanks.
I've been using this for the past couple of years, superb little pedal, my only issue is I have size 12 feet so have to be careful that I hit the correct switch
I got one on pre-order. still like it. Some things that are good about it. you can stick pedals in front of it. I have a TS mini. works great. It has IR out and non-IR out for dual amp setups. is awesome. you can disable IR to have 2 non-IR outs. more editable presets than you can poke a stick at. setup what you like and dance between them. some things that could change. masterl TMB and volume controls Tone editor software doesnt exist and the software is gumby. A firmware update to bring some of the improvements made to other NUX pedals into this one. e.g. reverb updates.
Wow, that sounds really great! Tasty playing as usual! I can't remember if you mentioned what the USB port is for. Can you DI record using that? It would be awesome if you would put that backing track on your channel. I'd love to jam to that! I also wanted to ask about that PRS SE during your last Stream. Is the back of the neck unfinished and what pickups are in there? Thanks!
Just wondering what the "patch switching latency" is? Most Multi-Effect pedals, including POD HDX Helix, Fractal, etc have some drop out. A couple of milliseconds is no big deal. The thing about this pedal is it has no expression pedal, so 2 unique settings in one channel would not be possible. 2 settings meaning, pedal forward, lead pedal back rhythm . Or pedal back gain rhythm Pedal forward clean with a touch of overdrive for rhythm
you can tweak but it is pretty much 4 pedals with simple controls, a loop switcher, with options you might not need. the loop switcher/preset mode is awesome in that you can get what you want and save it, then tweak and save it to another preset spot
There's no point giving the price everyone lives in different areas of the world and will have different exchange rates and the rates vary every single day. If you check the links I post in every video description you can see how it works out in your currency at that point in time. Listing the price doesn't work well if in a year it changes etc. Hope this helps clear that up mate. :-)
@@intheblues Sure Shane I understand I did'nt mean the Exact Price just Ball Park Most folks can work out their own Countries Price from The Australia Doller give or take Thanks for the Reply though
I use my mine when the gig calls for direct out / no amp on stage w/ in-ear monitors. A compressor would be nice but my biggest complaint is that there are no online patch resources for the Cerberus as there are for the Helix and Kemper.
Awesome intro man! I have a couple of NUX “Core” multi effects pedals and have been very happy with them for the $. At home, all-in-one units are fun to knock around with. I’m not a performing musician at all, but if I were, I totally agree with your comment that you would need to spend time setting this up for the tones you like, then lock it down. I couldn’t imagine fiddling around with it between songs on stage, especially the modulation effects, which is probably easier to do with a bunch of single pedals on a board. My only other thought from an “if I were on stage with this” is that it’s physical appearance is dark, the lights are all the same color (which is a cost thing I’m sure) and the labeling is also a dark color, which I think would be hard to see in a dark performance setting. How cool would iridescent ink colors and matching lights be?? 😎🤙🏻🎸
nux drive core, cerberus, nux loop core. you have a very handy platform that is compact. if you were doing stage gigs, setup presets in banks for what you want. the lcd shows you bank and preset clearly in all light. there are 4 presets per bank and 1 step can totally change everything, so you could gig pretty easily,.
Can you let me know how to connect this thing using four cables ? I’m using two cables currently and cannot get the delay or modulation to work as they have no input /output thanks
Great review…. I’m looking at getting one of these. Can you completely bypass it if you want if you’re using other pedals on your board ? Also what if you gave it only 450 milliamps. Would that be an issue ?
What does the USB cable do? is that just a direct out? Would be nice if there was a software that came with it to allow you to muck with the presets. I like the multiple outputs pretty versatile. Good Stuff.
I forgot to mention that. There's so much you can do. I think you can hook it up to a computer and load IR's and stuff into it as well. It's a very complex pedal but loads of options in there for the right person.
the usb is the IR loader and there is a very alpha version of what could be an editor. it isnt and I have been waiting since it came out for the software to develop. You can also do firmware updates and view midi assignments.
Yeah it's for use with the editor and also firmware upgrades. I'm in contact with NU>X as I have a few issues with the MIDI and have suggested a "fix" so that the exp/volume pedal input can be utilized as an external tap-in. Apparently, it can be done but they haven't sorted that upgrade out just yet.
@@mattgilbert7347 Good to know.. Some good sounding tones out of that thing. I might be in the market if I cant track down the tone sucker in my pedal board. I don't use much a bit of overdrive and a bit of delay that's about it probably overkill for my needs but... well so what :)
Shane: Consider doing a review of the Boss ME-80. Not only am I curious about your opinion of it, but I've gotta think there are way more searches for that unit than this Nux thing-- and it will bring more eyeballs to the channel. Best, - Adam
I use the boss me-80 and i love it. Its great for metal but the noise supressor isnt too great. I run mine into a noise gate and it sounds amazing. Dont forget to talk about the headphone jack trick.
Looks awesome. Lots of tones, lots of flexibility. Can you see yourself using it? I was going to say ‘on your pedal board’, but it seems it would replace everything else! (Or would it?)
Good product. Having tried them both I still prefer Carl Martin quarto in terms of tones but this has more features and programming which the Quatro does not have.
I've been using the 100-watt katana with the footswitch for about a year. I reckon it sounds pretty decent but what I don't enjoy is having to use the tone studio to change a lot of the detail. Does anybody have any insight into how this sounds compared to the Katana effects?
Does anyone know whether the parameters of all the effects are saved in presets? (I mean whether the presets save the on/off status of each effects as well as the parameters?)
Nice Shane! Just looked up the Price, $299 US is really Steep! A Tech 21 is the same price. Nice Vid though! Wish I could get my 2018 PRS SE Custom 24 to sound like yours!! The Pickups in mine are WAY TOO HOT and Unbalanced. Tried everything to balance them out. Even had a Luthier and Guitar Builder look at them and his response after 2 days was buy new Pickups! Cheers Mate!
