This night vision comparison video took weeks to complete, se please consider sending a financial "thanks" to PayPal.Me/DontDoDaylight
Here, we will feature the NVG10 digital night vision device! Lets start with a fun intro which shows how awesome it is to power the included battery with solar energy! Then, we will experience some POV night sky footage and proceed to my initial reaction. After that, we see the full unboxing and compare the NVG10 contents to what came with my PVS-14 gen III monocular from Steele Industries. We then go through the features of and how to use the NVG10 compared to the PVS-14. We will also look at the apps which allow POV recording and then compare helmets and show night driving with the NVG10! We will lastly compare the unit with the Night Fox Swift and go over some general footage during the conclusion.

Wow! Completely amazed by your review and really liked your solar setup! Being able to swap in and out rechargeable batteries is a great advantage over the other devices. Looks like you were able to get some great fpv footage on your iPhone as well. Ill keep my eyes out for another iPhone app to record as well! Cant believe you were able to get that driving footage as well! I defintely would not want to drive with this unless i was positive no other vehicles were around lol. You did an great job in the comparison and explaining the pros and cons of each device. I dont own a pvs14 yet but am learning a lot from your channel. Thanks again for the great video and I would love to work with you again on another project soon!

A viewer just made me aware of the “Wifi Action Camera” app and it instantly worked, even with a more attractive full-screen mode and no message on the screen! All I had to do was press the video camera button after entering the app and it displayed a nice live-feed! Will certainly test more with this! During the driving portions where I was filming with my phone, the moon was at 70%+ brightness in the sky. I’m not exaggerating when I say that I couldn’t see at all with my eyes but could very comfortably see with the NVG10! I suppose the unit performs so well on the highway because of how open the roads are (unlike deep woods where there are trees blocking ambient light) and when combined with a clear night + moonlight, it’s able to see with impressive clarity! You’re the man! I’m ultimately proud of how this video turned out and glad that you are as well! I had no idea that it would be this long in duration but I guess that’s what I needed to get my message across and funnily enough, I still feel like there’s more I can add with this great unit! Thanks again for making this possible and just being a great person in general!

Already left a comment. I just wanted to add that the NVG10 is priced perfectly in my opinion, for digital NV. For anyone who wants NV but doesn't want to or just can't pay for a PVS14, this is a great alternative. Hopefully, a community of the NVG10 starts up, and with that, they can start making some parts out of a 3d printer. If they can make a dove tail arm that can bolt on to that unit, that would be great. I'm of the everyone should be able to see in the dark.

I appreciate both of your comments! That’s exactly what I’m talking about…. passing the NVG10 on when you upgraded to the PVS-14 is awesome and I must agree with your dad! I’ve already seen people who are printing housings for the NVG10 that mount it vertically and accept wide-angle lenses + IR flashlights. I’ve found that people who are into cheaper/digital night vision are very crafty and creative, haha! I’d also agree with you saying that it’s perfectly priced and I actually overshot the price by quite a bit because I think it ends up selling for less than $400 when using my link and coupon code. Again, above all else I was impressed with the driving experience using the NVG10! That was unexpected. Your story about going to a gun show for any random thing and ending up buying a PVS-14 reminds me of my good friend who went to his car dealership for an oil change on his Chevy Cruze and ended up coming back in a Ford Lightning lol I’m actually glad to hear that a night vision purchase at a gun show went well. I actually haven’t ever thought of that but I also haven’t been to a gun show in a while. Thanks again!

Are you saying this because autogating is present? I would not want stare directly into the moon with any analog device when it's greater than 75%. Even for my Gen1 set it's completely blinding similar to car headlights although the it's not as toxic as the artificial light intensity. Also if you used these in an environment where you didn't pay for them yourself and risked operating the units in that manner it's kind of pointless to think other's would want to try given the cost. It's better to be safe than sorry for meaningless light exposure tests given the cost.

I had this NVG10, literally the following went to a gun show with my brother, just to see if there was anything cool. A new firearm ? A new optic ? New parts for my existing firearms. Ended up walking to an optics booth and there was my pvs14 lol Ended up buying it and started thinking how to build my helmet when I got home. I ended up giving my pops the NVG10 for him to use in his land when he goes to visit his country. He told me ot was perfect to do patrol around his property. He told me he had a half moon that night and clear sky's and he was walking all over the place. He also used the digital zoom to check down the hill and passed a lot of trees. He was like a kid, apparently. 😂😂

Not gonna lie. I fell for a solar powered Nods meme yesterday FML. Lemme watch all the way through and I'll chime back in! Edit: So the flashing when you film the screen inside the digital unit is just refresh rate. All screens in the US flash at a rate of 60 mHz (50 mHz in the UK) maybe the refresh rate on that is different? Still imperceptible to the human eye but depending on your cameras shutter speed, it will be visible.

Grab some popcorn if you want to get through this upload! I laid out the video outline in my head, then filmed everything and didn’t know how long the final file would be when assembled/rendered. No idea it would nearly be an hour, haha! I mention your channel during my next upload (probably releasing Friday or Saturday), for what it’s worth! I seriously appreciate your work. Go figure… you’re correct about the refresh rate! I just tried filming the screen again through my phone (this time while also covering the area that emits lasers) and the flashing did continue, so I was incorrect to say that it was the lasers causing the flashing! Like you say… not a factor when using the unit but a bit frustrating when the app fails and trying to film for this video lol!

These are just different tools for different jobs imo. A jewelers hammer and a sledge hammer are similar tools for very different jobs. A PVS-14 is for combat, running and gunning. Something digital is great for just budget observation and maybe a cheap SHTF kit that wants something over nothing. NV is so important that the NVG10 should really be in everyone’s kit at a minimum, but if you want to have a real advantage nothing beats the PVS-14 or proper analogue NVG.

I know that lots of people will be really upset when i say this but these are not toys. Is it as good as a pvs14? No! But the amount of running and gunning you can do with these nvg10's and a GOOD ir laser/illuminator is more than you think. As a LEO I'm issued a FLIR Breach which is of course great. But I have actually found people hiding with the NVG10 that I couldn't see with the FLIR. One example was a guy hiding behind tombstones in a cemetary. The FLIR couldn't pick up his feet sticking out from the stone. I put on the NVG10 and in seconds I found him. The detail is surprising. True there is a little bit of lag when you move your head quickly but it is very short. This will get you about 80% of the way there. Add a laser/illuminator and you're in business,

The easiest “meet in the middle” solution would be loosening the tension knob that I pointed out allows you to stow the NVG10 out of your eyesight. If you loosen that all the way, you can release its grip from the unit but that does keep the portion attached that has the little screws. That’s still pocketable, if you ask me! Very neat. I haven't heard of the NVG10 before. It seems like the big guntubers are using Psinox products as their digital nv example. I don't think that's exactly fair because those are cameras meant for recording. It seems like the NVG10 is specifically designed to be an active use vision-aid, so it's more relevant to the conversation. It would be great if digital caught up to analog this decade. But not too fast, so I get to enjoy the analog investment a bit longer.

@ToastyWaffle456
@ToastyWaffle456 Год назад
I would say the Sionyx Aurora and the NVG-10 are very comparable and relevant though. Prices are around around the same between the $250-$500 range. Both can be helmet mounted although I believe the Aurora beats the NVG-10 in terms of visiblity and it gives you more fine tune control over functionality such as framerate control, 7.5 fps, 15 fps, 30fps and 60. As well as resolution control to bring the device down to 360p or up to 720p to affect the light gathering abilities. The NVG-10 is very good for what it is but not having these capabilities makes it feel like it could be pushed further technically if it provided more control to the user and didn't automate so much. For example in wooded areas I would prefer a 7.5 framerate for the best possible light gathering instead if being locked to 24-30fps with the NVG-10.
@heyarno
@heyarno 7 месяцев назад
I think even for recreational use, only the nvg10 is viable. As the nightfox lacks passive capabilities, which are essential for navigating open landscapes. If the viewing distance is limited to the effective reach of the IR lights, it's very easy to become lost in unknown surroundings.

Ive been hoping nightfox would make a cqb monocular some time soon. There arent any results about the nightfox prowl yet, interesting. If its cheap enough id probably buy two to get real binocular night vision for cheap. If they still have a 30 fps refresh rate it would be cool if you could synchronize two of them so one displays a frame slightly before the other so you get an accumulative 60 fps.

So as somone who owns a Nightfox swift. If your gonna do close quarters sneacky stuff. BUY A IR FLASHLIGHT! I say that because the integral IR illuminators on the swift will shine hardcore red to the nacked eye in not even pitch black envirents. I had my gaming PC partially illuminate my room and with the IR illuminator off, my nacked eyes could see the pc light better then the swift. But when I use a IR light, you can point it down wards with the light spread out. The IR light will splash around were its pointed so no one can see the IR light but the Swift can see the IR perfectly. Do that with the IR illuminated on the swift off or set the swift on NV0. Swift has potential only if you use it right. Dont use it as intended if you want best results. NV0 and IR flashlight pointed downwards. Other wise the goggles wont do you good. Especially against those with nacked eyes or better yet NV weather digital or Anolog.

I want to buy this unit but because i can't find this on any german website, i'm very sceptical about the legality in germany. Night vision devices are illegal in Germany, if they can be attatched to a firearm and be used as a night vision scope. I don't want to waste 350+€ and eventually get charged with a gun law felony if that thing gets confiscated by german customs 😂 Maybe you can help me out and answer a few questions: -Is there any option to attatch the device to a firearm via a picatinny rail or something similar without modifying it? -Is there an option to project a crosshair or any other kind of aiming reticle into the display? -As the device comes from china and chinese companies use to overarchieve on advertising the proclaimed features of their products....are there any images or mentions portraying one of the two above mentioned options anywhere on the box or in the manual? -Are there images of firearms anywhere on the box or in the manual, that could imply tgat this is intended to be used in combination with a firearm? -Is there any mention of "laser" or any laser warning sign anywhere on the device, the box or in the manual? -Is the word "scope" anywhere on tge box or in the manual? -Do the device and the battery charger have CE markings as the product description on EBay claims?

Solid vid and analysis from a SHTF/budget discussion and more. I would hope that any prepped individual with a brain would quickly assess if they are competing with "military" (red dawn), govt (1984) or just marauders (grid down/pandemic/short term wrol). The IR options are game changers for advantage in seeing what lurks and tactical options in the later situations. No brainer. Airsoft has fudged up the stigma of a lot of "basic" "good" prep gear vs pro grade and it's a shame. 20 years ago, what would you have given to have this technology for $200-500?????

What purpose is the 860 serving other than being visible to the naked eye at close range (the glow you can see from the illuminator)? Is it selectable somewhere on the device?
@ToastyWaffle456
@ToastyWaffle456 Год назад
The IR Led is completely disabled but holding the IR button and setting the device's mode to IR ON. This is in reality translated to IR Manual, where the Led is disabled until you manually press the button again. From this point you can switch between IR 1, 2 and 3 brightness levels and switching back to IR ON will again disable the Led. If you leave the device in IR OFF mode you will have a very low light emission still coming from the IR Led as it is not fully disabled in the IR OFF mode. I'm not sure what you mean by having different nm modes. In my experience this is not the case but I use a 940nm illuminator whenever I use this device and approach areas of dense foliage.

The only cons about the nvg 10 is that it makes it very difficult to shoot a firearm do to the IR beam, even with the IR off setting it still projects a low grade IR beam and it’s not very usable helmet mounted either (to a degree) but with analog night vision it makes it a lot easier. I own a NVG10 the only thing I can find it useful for is deer and coyote watching I tried using it with a Remington pump action 12ga but couldn’t aim properly due to the low grade IR beam projecting from the front of the monocular. So if you want a real night vision experience I would advise you to save your money.

I believe you might be referring to the incorrect IR ON and IR OFF settings that are incorrectly displayed in the HUD of this device. Holding the IR selection button down until the unit displays IR ON is when the IR Led will actually be disabled. Once the Led is disabled, you can then press the same button manually to switch between IR 1, 2 and 3 brightness levels. When you hold the same button again you will be sent to IR OFF mode. From here you must again hold the button down to switch to IR ON to disable the IR Led. This sounds complicated but it becomes subconscious when you have used the device long enough. Essentially, IR OFF is in reality a automatic IR mode that gives you a very small amount of light that is good enough for viewing at very close ranges such as being in a small room or viewing items on a desk etc. The IR ON mode is when you are actually able to provide very large brightness adjustments or just use the plain moon light or ambient street light that is present. I have experienced the same issue when you aim with iron sights, a red dot or optic because if the device is in IR OFF/IR automatic mode you will create massive reflections and the image will be completely unusable. My firmware version is PT658-20220705-V15. If yours is not the same this might be why the IR Led functionality may be reduced and not fully capable of being disabled although I have never heard of this problem existing with these units.

Question, so why not mount a IR flashlight to your helmet or weapon, and turn off the IR on the unit itself? Seems to be the best option in my humble opinion.

Your comment inspired me to give this a try and… yes! It only took a couple of minutes to swap it around. Just remove the 6 screws from the plate that the NVG10 mounts to, flip that plate from the right side to the left, and re-install the NVG10 and it works perfect! If you get the NVG10, the process will be obvious once you have it in-hand. Please do utilize my link if you decide to buy! Thanks for the comment.

@@fromsheeptoshepherddog6695 No problem! I just put the setup on again and can confirm that my right eye easily has 3/4 of its normal field of view. Only the furthest-most left area of your view would be blocked but then again the NVG10 is seeing all of that anyway! It’s really not a ton more bulky than the PVS-14. Very similar experience.

I have a question i saw another video about this NVG 10 and it said i can detect a IR laser im wondering if thats a fact
@DontDoDaylight
@DontDoDaylight Год назад
Sure! I suppose it depends on the power of the laser, whether you could actually see the line of the laser in the air but again that’s all relative to the power of the laser and would be the same whether using an NVG10 or more expensive night vision. You would absolutely be able to see an IR laser, it’s just that some lasers just produce the dot wherever they’re pointing and you’d have to be looking in that area to see it.

NVG10 might be the best budget digital nvg model you can buy, but yeah it doesn't beat a real analog night vision monocular or goggles, but it seems from what my experience with it is really good unit to have. I have a pvs14 I build from a parts kit with a blem gen 2+ tube, I have two Soviet n g goggles that are modernized to use a anvis 9 or pvs31 battery pack, I have both pnw57a, and pnv57e which was a new old stock with case and access and then I rewired the whole set up, spliced the pvs31 battery pack cable or anvis 9 cable to work with one of those battery packs, instead of the old shitty transformer I added a mount bracket I got made from a piece of sheet metal to mount on a norotos nvg lowering arm, I had mounts made for each one, so I'm not fuckin with a bunch of different lowering arms saved me money. Sadly I started out with a pnw-57a then asked my Russian buddy to see if he can get me a pnv57e nos condition he was able to ,then I bought a nvg10 and then built a pvs14 from parts, and a used 700 dollar image intensifier tubes gen 2 with blem off a friend

Funny to see people reviewing technology that was invented in 1939. Thats 84 years ago people. Sony made a video camera back in 1998 which had a “night vision” (infrared) mode. It even was capable of seeing threw clothes. I ran around with digital NV when i was 14 years old. Im 36 now! Hell in 2010 Jakks Pacific released SPYNET Night Vision Infrared Goggles for children that do this same thing. You can get a pair for like 30 buck online. All of a sudden this tech keeps getting rewrapped and called new then priced for hundreds? I dont get it. Morons reviewing it obviously have no idea what they are even talking about... Sorry
