Hey great video my friend. I have a question, would you happen to have a stock image file of the Nvidia shield 2017 pro model? Or the 2015? I accidentally wiped my drive trying to make the swap as you said not to do. LOL I thought I had the Target as the source and the source as the Target, but I had them switched. So now unfortunately I have two drives that are empty. Thanks for your help.

Hello , I appreciate your hard job . I am wondering why cannot use 1TB instead of 512GB SSD ? I'd cloned my 1TB SSD but just 512GB is done .

Hello Vu+ and thanks for watching, in my experience the shield would not accept a drive size other than 500GB. The shield must have some kind of limitation for drives. does the 1TB drive boot up and work in the shield?

@@kelleytech Actually , I cloned my 1TB SSD drive but it didn't work in my nvidia shield pro . I don't know why nvidia shield had locked to use more than 512 GB . Thanks for your efforts .

@@Canada2009s hello friend, i did the procedure on my shield tv ssd upgrade works perfect to be able to put ssds larger than 500gb in a topic on xda where there is a table where you have to change the size of the factory exclusivity and increase it to the size of your SSD does not limit however you must inform the bootloader of the android system as there is a mix of partitions inside the original nvidia shield hd because your hd does not recognize the other half of the size because the firmware does not see the rest of the ssd it is necessary to read the entire topic from xda and make changes to the disk partition map inside the shield

SSD's getting slow? Are you sure? SSD's usually work or just die. You probably could have trimmed the drive and got the same results. That will block out the slow bad sectors and set the unused space to zero.

I appreciate the video but why not just use some canned compressed air to clean it out instead of forcing the dirt deeper with those brushes??

I own a repair shop and have to clean just about everything that comes in. Instead of canned air, I usually use electric blower but I'm trying to show people how to do it at home without buying anything. In this case the shield has been used in a cigarette smoking household for years. The fan gets sticky and a can just wont do. So I knock off the dust with a brush and blow away debris with my breath. It takes longer but this really is the best way to remove dust from a sticky fan. Thanks for watching and commenting!

I swapped mine out using your instructions a few years ago. Have you ever looked into using a larger drive? Someone on eBay has a service for 1 TB or 2 TB. I can't find much online about it. I wonder what would happen if I just copy it to a larger drive. Maybe partition 500GB. Then internal storage the rest?

Hello Nate and thanks for coming back. there is a way to use a larger drive but it is not easy. If your interested its going to take a lot of research. Unfortunately you can only use 500GB drives for this method. Nvidia shield will not read any other size drive. There are ways around this but its A much harder method. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!

Hey, I have the Nvidia shield pro 2015, it was working alright one night, then I woke up and the screen was black, and had writing on it that said the following, Continue Boot recovery kernel Boot safe mode Reboot Power off Forced recovery Unlock boot loader Lock boot loader Factory data reset I have tried every option it has to offer and it does nothing but stay on that screen. Would you know if the hard drive is dead and that's what's causing this? I have even tried plugging it into my computer, but my computer won't even recognize I plugged it in with a USB to USB. Unfortunately I was never to activate usb debugging or anything on the shield before this happened either. I'm absolutely at the end of ideas.

I've tried this as well, but the HDDRawCopy gives me lots of errors and now my Shield won't boot anymore. What would happen if I put a different shield hdd on my shield? - basically using the hdd from one shield on another shield. Thanks!

Did you wipe the system first? I didnt have anything i cared about so i did that first, just got the drive out and ready to copy in the morning.

I’m just curious why does the old SSD have to get swapped out. Is it a matter of the SSD going bad after a while? I’m asking because I’m looking into buying a used Shield pro 500GB and honestly don’t even know if it’s worth it.

Hello and thanks for watching. SSDs tend to slow down after a long period of use. I installed a new SSD just to keep the shield quick and snappy. Nvidia Shield pro 2017 is a very nice unit but the original drive is a hybrid drive, part platter and part SSD. Unfortunately the stock drives are prone to fail, with that said the 2017 pro with new SSD is my favorite version of the shield. The 2019 shield pro is a little faster but only has 12 GB storage. @@Tain950 I recommend Samsung for SSD because its the only drive I I have used for the shield. Other drives will work. just remember only 500 GB drive will work. Happy streaming!

For some reason my shield wont boot after i clone the orginal drive. I tried to make image file and clone it from that. and i tried to clone this method on the video and still no luck. Orginal sshd drive boots just fine. i used "PNY CS900 500gb" drive

Yea, you can factory reset then clone data from shield hard drive to your new SSD. You cant skip the cloning part though you need the data from the old drive to make the new drive boot. Hope this helps!

Hello marcus and thanks for watching. Any 500 GIG drive should work but the only one I tested is the Samsung 860. As far as I know it will only except 500GB Hope this helps!

Hello Wimpelmann and thanks for watching. Unfortunately not all have a SSD drive. The Nvidia Shield TV 2015 Pro and the Nvidia Shield TV 2017 Pro are the only Nvidia shields that have 500 GB drive. The 2015 comes stock with a platter hard drive and the 2017 comes stock with a hybrid platter drive. If you want a SSD drive you have to install it. Hope this helps!

Cloning is not a good idea. You take a risk of files getting corrupted. Your best bet would be to start over. I'm getting my SSD in on Monday and I'm just going to start from scratch.

Wholeheartedly DISAGREE with your assessment that "cloning is not a good idea." There is a negligible risk to data corruption so long as the power supply is uninterrupted

I listen to this video on my phone and my PC to make sure volume sounded right and it sound great so I don't know what problem your having but its on your end not mine.
