Even my 2017 NVidia Shield Pro Still works Great Pulls wifi from 150 ft away off main floor and Blu tooth about 50 ft away....Amazing piece of Equipment... EveryOne should get one and use it.. Great for Plex as well. Good Vid
Excellent review I am totally gonna get a shield pro to replace a crappy Roku we have in the living room tv. Since my parents don't have a issue with android since they have android phones so its a win win. :) We are also having issues with the remotes too so this will also fix that problem. :)

I have been running tests lately on my Plex server with downloading gigantic files and the Pro handles it like a champ even over wifi. The Shield TV not as much. Definitely worth the few extra bucks for the Pro. Black Friday right around the corner too, so even if you buy now and it price drops you should be able to go back and price match!!
I think the base model should be fine. If you buy it new, worst case you exchange or return it... but I'm sure it will be more than you need. You'll love it!
Yes!!! I love the Pro one. It's awesome. I mean heck you can even buy a little Bluetooth controller and play games on it. You can download movies right onto it. It can handle every format. That thing is awesome!
I have 4 sheilds all are 2015 models with 500gb hard drive as I am a cord cutter also the controller has a headphone jack if u do not have bt headphones
Ohh that's right, those 2015's Pro had 500gb hdds! And a headphone jack too? I did not know that. That is sick! A bit of a bummer they went down to what, 16gb? You don't feel the need to upgrade those at this point do you? AI upscaling is great but, if you can just download high quality it's all good...
@@TheSAHDLife actually the 2015 models are in many ways better then the newer models , they have more ports , way better build quality , larger foot foot print, and have all the great features minus ai but that doesn't matter since my TV already upscale if needed but since I use real debrid and premiumize my streams are in 4k , also I have a large antenna on my home and get 50 plus channels alot are uncompressed 4k q uality . And they all came with a game controller not separate like now . But you cannot go wrong buying a sheild as they always update them unlike my razor forge android box . But here is the best android that blows them all away , a newer Samsung phone like a note 9 or above with a dex dock , I have one note 10 with a dock with a 4tb hardrive all hardwired using a all in one Bluetooth keyboard mouse combo , it out preforms every box I tested
@@rdeh1678 That's crazy! What happens if someone calls you while you are docked and watching?! :D Sounds like a sweet setup you've got going though. Can you game on that phone setup too? Do you have a desktop computer or is there no point for you?
@@TheSAHDLife its a phone that is older so it has no sim chip so no calls as i now have a much newer samsung phone, yes you can game on it as well yes i have a gaming system it was built by origin , but i mainly use it for sim racing . I been helping others cut the cord for along time since the original x box xbmc days
@@shelleygammon6532 Just make sure IF you stream off of someone else's Plex server that you disable "adjust quality settings while streaming" Also and this is just an FYI, my step-dad who watches a lot of DAZN noticed a BIG quality bump when casting from the Chromecast to the Shield. Let alone the many other benefits.
I own two shields 2017 model and 2019 , I also own amazon 4K firecube , Apple TV 4K and owned a google chrome but sold it . Nvidia shield is only good for geeky people that want to throw there own content on kodi , plex etc . If it were just used as just streaming device for movies tv shows it’s severely lacking . There is no hdr for RU-vid , there is no hdr for google play movies , there is no hdr 10 + support for amazon prime and there is no Apple TV app . These things are to hard to ignore and wish reviews would dig deeper before saying the shield is so amazing it’s not for streaming content it lacks too many key things .
Ya those are good points. I think for most people who just buy the cheapest biggest 4k TV they can at Costco, the Shield is kind of that sweet spot of turning that into a smart device capable of a whole lot more (gaming/sweet remote etc). At least I know if I buy one for my mom, I can share my plex server with her and she can play EVERYTHING. She has the Chromecast now and can only watch half the movies on my server (No 1080p with AC3 audio or 4k). Do you think the AI upscaling is worth all of the praise it gets?
@@TheSAHDLife I have had a hit and miss with it for lower end content or content with film grain I find it makes things worse , the ai upscaler it increase the grain makes things look pretty bad IMO . Ai upscaler works best with movies shot digitally then it shines or content with little to no grain .
@@TheSAHDLife it goes random to a black screen if I go to settings or just install an app but it goes back when I click the home button and the app is installed or settings are applied still weird because the shield doesn't freeze you can still hear sound when you move thru menus just no picture plus there are some problems with Plex
@@TheSAHDLife I have my homemade NAS running True NAS I roll back to Android 9 (v8.2.3) and now everything works normal but is such a pain in the ass and you lose every data or app on a shield

The device suck to be honest, the device is over price and some of the performance on emulator suck and the device has cooling issue because led the shield has makes the whole device super hot and the fan is to weak to cool it down
Ya you don't like it eh?! Have you found anything you like better? I've had really good experiences with it. Maybe you got a bad one? I've got emulators on mine as well and it seems to run anything fine although I haven't run Dreamcast or N64 games on it yet.
@@TheSAHDLife i like how sega genesis emulator was playable but the thing i didnt like was terrible support for shield ,when i first bought one my tv would turn on its own in the middle of the night
Ya absolutely! You just have to download the app for each. I know the UFC app works for PPV, so depending on which PPV you want you might have to get the necessary app. WWE will have an app for example. I hear you can get the HBO Max app if you are interested in HBO also!
Haha, no it's not a paid ad! TV's can do some things, like stream Netflix or other apps. The problem is they aren't powerful enough to handle HUGE files off your own network or play video games. So for instance, if YOU made your own video from your phone, or a camera, it would be hard for you to watch it on your TV in high quality with just the 'Smart TV' apps. This is like a laptop and a console all rolled into one.
Let me put it this way.. I have an LG Smart tv.. Great picture..plenty of hook ups etc.. Yet my 2017 NVidia Shield Pro works far better for the Smart system..be it internet..be it Blu tooth .. be it WIFI And playing the countless TV Apps through my shield verses through my tv.. It transitions quicker between apps.. Surfs internet faster and better. The Countless TV apps like Netflix and lesser apps play smoother and faster with better pictures This mind you from a 4 year old NVidia. ( only has a 500 GB hard drive for good Plexing ) I have some 5 other lesser android boxes..All Garbage.. Sitting in draw collecting dust. If or when j buy a new smart tv..whether $2000 to $5000 Guaranteed it will have a NVidia shild Pro hooked up to it Stop being Narrow minded ( I have 2 friends who think the shield is Only Hype.. Yet One asked to Borrow mine when I first got it..lol ) Do yourself a Favor.. Get yourself an NVidia Shield Pro .. Become Enlightened !! and Enjoy
@@MrBOB39: Yep you speak the truth. Always had problems with other android boxes then finally came along Nvidia Shield no more problems smh. I have the older pro and the next one will be their newest 2022-2024 model whenever they'll come out with a new one 🤞.
