I’ve installed the GoogleTV UI on two of my ShieldTVs 2015 (Pro and expanded 16GB model). I see what Google is doing with the new UI, but why change the name, especially how GoogleTV went over the first time. So far Dolby Vision and the AI upscaling, I let my TV upscale if needed, and haven’t been compelling enough to update my media players.

Great video? Thanks! One question (I am a newbie) Can you plug the Nvidia directly into a sound bar that is able to pass through the video via arc to a tv or a projector? I have the Sennheiser Ambeo that supports Dolby Atmos but my tv doesn’t, that is why I am thinking to do it that way and get the Atmos experience. Thanks in advance!

I have the Shield, and no reviewer really points out the negatives of it. It can be really slow, it freezes up from time to time, it has literally no storage space in it. The microSD card slot is blocked by the ethernet cable, it can get hot, hard to tell if it is actually shut off, etc. For the price, you'd expect better.

I got the 2015 pro version shield and man is it getting glitchy..I reboot all the time and freezing up. I might buy the 4k Chromecast and maybe a 3rd party ubc with Ethernet. I have 800 to 900 MB speed with Comcast..I should be good

What about cloud gaming? With shield TV I can also sideload APK of Google stadia, xcloud (even it's not well supported for TV right now) and obviously geforce now is native. Is the new chromecast TV able to do the same? Have you tried to sideload these APK? With a third of the price you may get a perfectly working game station (of you're into cloud gaming as me)

my issue with the chromecast is no atmos support on vudu and diney+...other than tht a i really like as a streaming device. for the price.. but the shield still is king for now

I don't think they would. It's probably part of their agreement with Nintendo since they make the cpu for the switch.

Are their any benefits with local streaming? IE Plex w/native file support? I'm torn between these devices and want the best possible experience- somewhat hard to rationalize with price.

From what I have seen you will be making some compromises when it comes to game streaming on the chrome cast. The Shield is head and shoulders above in this and also on the emulation front. If you aren’t concerned with gaming I would go with the chrome cast just because of the low price point and it’s basically the same as the shield from a video streaming standpoint

I have both, Nvidia Shield Pro (2017) and just got the new Chromecast. Was considering buying a second Nvidia Shield, because, of course my wife discovered it and now monopolizes it lol. I needed a content consumption device for the living room and the new Chromecast, with an additional USB 3.0 / ethernet dongle works perfectly and saved me a few bucks.

What about framerate when watching movies? I heard in another review that it’s always 60p with the new Chromecast, it doesn’t switch to 24p like Shield does.

After having the new Google TV I can tell the thing is glitchy as f.. the battery on the remote drain VERY fast and the navigation is very jerky, the sound will cut for a sec just to distrub you when watching a good movie.. I really wanted to like the thing Ill stay with my apple tv 4k and mabye buy this nvidia shield as long as they add the apple tv app on it.

How's it now? I've got the shield and it's pricey but great, my only diss is the upscaling makes stadia look wonky and no HDR for cloud gaming neither

@@docrobotnik247 actually it didn’t improve much except for the battery last alot longer with news update, If its wasn’t the laggy experience in the menus or the sound sync issue It will be my go to device for my living room room but I choose the newer apple tv 4k gen2 for a smooth experience but this isn’t perfect too specially when you compare it to its older gen version some of the bug came back again like hdmi handshake black screen flshing when returning to menus etc , I got the shield also but I was waiting the apple tv app for just too long so I sold it loll

No, but you can download browsers using the Downloader app. Except for Firefox for Android TV and TV Bro, you will need to add an "air mouse" to actually use most browsers. You can find compatible browser download links at ----- 1 - dot . com / chromecast / browsers
