UPDATE: 1. When installing the grip, pay closer attention to use the screws that are included with the base and not the grip. They are slightly larger and will hold better. 2. With this, it is unlikely the grip can separate. 3. My reference to the part wearing out due to use, was reference to an extreme case and a general statement rather than highlighting a specific case. 4. The current version of the NXT base includes ball bearings internally for the gimbal action. 5. and finally, as I said numerous times in the video, ABS plastic is not an indication of cheap construction. TLDR. I think the NXT is a great value, I believe they are built well and are solid performer.

7:50 - forward: Speaking from experience with these sticks. You need to be careful "which" screws you use to fasten the grip to the base. Contrary to intuitive assumption, the screws for fastening the grip to the base, do NOT come in the grip's box. Yes, there are three screws that come in that box and yes, they "look" like the right size, but they're NOT. You MUST use the screws that come with the BASE. They are only a little bigger, but bite much deeper into the plastic well to give a much firmer and tighter fasten. So much so that you actually need to use a little force to secure it all the way down. Not too much, but plenty for what you should normally expect. So make sure you're using the correct screws from the base and NOT the screws that come with the grip. The problem with the screws that come with the grip is that they are not labelled and I'm still not entirely sure what they're for, but my best guess is, I think they are spares for the grip's housing. The screws for fastening the grip to the base will be in the Base's box and those will be clearly labelled. I'm a little embarrassed to admit that it took me way too long to figure that out after frustratingly trying to secure the grip to the base with the screws that came with the grip and thinking "these are so loose, how do they expect these to hold firm?". Using the correct screws, I've not had any issues with using this stick and base. And yes, they hold just fine even if picked up by the grip, even if I wouldn't necessarily recommend it out of common sense. Hope this helps.

I have HOSAS with these. Worth it. OK maybe there's better out there, but not for the money your spending. Plus they are available. They also have an Aussie website now. I've had them for 2 years of almost constant use, daily play multi hours, only thing I've had to do is replace the occasional spring, 3 so far in total across 2 sticks just plomped on the desk, and I have big hands. They give multiple spares of those in all weights. Both mine are premiums. I've never had the grip pull out of the base. Ever. Yes I'm the guy who is commenting in the comments. One of the things I liked about these sticks is the grips are really good for Star Citizen even if plastic. But really, my main concern for the plastic construction is in the base, not the grip. And what I found on the VKB website when I was researching these, is that VKB actually sell conversion kits for to allow you to attach the Space Combat Grip onto their higher end Gunfighter bases. I didn't have the money to go full pelt into their ecosystem from the start, but I really liked the pro-consumer upgrade path and the interoperability they had in their designs. I have EVOs now and I really like them. Although I am still tuning them. But I like them enough that I'm seriously considering upgrading them to the gunfighter bases in the future.
@flockofwildcactus
@flockofwildcactus Год назад
This was my primary reason for getting the NXT originally, the Kosmosima grip is the same one you'd find elsewhere in their catalogue and even prior to the original release they confirmed it would be compatible in the future with said kit. VKB making things adjustable, compatible, upgradeable and so on is a very good reason to support them IMO. I'm not a hardcore player right now in terms of hours, nor am I particularly hard on my gear or super invested in a sim rig yet, so it fits the bill in terms of quality at the price and pure usability...I'd personally never advise even a beginner get anything less after using them for a few months with the inexpensive upgrade to the EVO bases in the interim. Once I'm able to and the time is right, I'll also very likely pick up the Gunfigher bases for the final upgrade.

I've had my NXTs since Oct of 21 and have been very happy with them. I had neither the bankroll to go Virpil, nor the space to have a dedicated rig to mount them right. I just have an office chair and desk, and have to use that desk for a multitude of tasks. I fly in SC multiple times per week, sometimes every day, and I've had zero issue with them. Just as accurate with no drift as when I bought them. SOMEday I'll get a full Virpil setup going, but for now the NXTs have been great.

After going through 2 z-axis failures on a dual TM T16000M setup in just six months I took the leap up to the NXT Gladiator Premiums and was blown away at the quality at this price point. They are SOOO much better and it's been over a year without a single issue. I don't play enough to justify the budget for serious high end sticks so the NXT's were a perfect middle ground and I'd never go back to a cheaper stick again. These sticks are a perfect compromise, IMO.

I have used mines for more than 12h gaming daily on more than 1 occasion and in almost 2 years nothing has broken and works wonderfully. I will keep my opinion that it's not worth it to buy virprils for what you get. @DF-fg1cz Год назад
@@NOOBIFIER1337 Yes it is but that doesn't mean that the product is bad. @Robert-G
@Robert-G Год назад
@@DF-fg1cz it isn’t bad, but is worse than others if you compare it against them. Objectively, not in value per money spend. And the point is, that he tries to give people a basis they can make an informed purchase decision on. If you play sc a lot, and can afford something with a cam profile and metal gimbal, you probably want to invest a bit more into it, at least for the right hand. The chance that stuff will break is also a lot higher, and the way the spring is attached to the NXT is a lot more fragile than either gunfighter or warbrd base. Does that mean that it WILL break for sure? No, ofc not. You might be careful with it, knowing that it’s not a metal piece. But not everyone buying an NXT is aware how many compromises VKB had to come up with to make such a great device at such a low price. This is something that seems to be ignored in almost all vids about the Gladiator, mostly probably because they are made by people who haven’t used metal gimbal sticks before.

Was recommended this to me whilst watching a video from CrimsonGamer (an Elite RU-vidr), lost my X-56 HOTAS when I moved out of Florida (lost apartment to roommates, kicked out of friend's family house, fun times and ones I hope to leave behind in 2022!) and he spoke of the VKBs, so I figured I'd go to the one man I trust on joystick knowledge, and I was not disappointed! In the future I'd love to move to VIRPRILs, but going from a HOTAS to a HOSAS, I want to give the VKBs their run. I don't play Elite everyday (that home improvement sales associate life, yo) so wear 'n tear won't be an issue, however to see how they fair up with (careful!) LAN party transportation and of course some FA-Off Elite combat will be a true testament. Thank you for making this review video, I think I got my sights set!

I've had the pre-evo version of these for a couple years now with the premium grips. I'm not a daily player, and I don't play rough. This replaced an X55 stick/throttle that was nearly dead after 6 years of mild use. I will step up to virpil alphas in a couple years when I can play more consistently - because the alphas look like the type of stick I'd like to have as far as SC is concerned. I am very much into the bindings and want to keep my fingers off the keyboard as much as possible. (I've been thinking about a custom keyboard design for a while too, I'm that kind of nerd) I lifted my left hand stick once. I think i used the screws that came with the stick and not the base. But it didn't lift completely "out" so I was able to reseat it with no damage to the wire. Point to point though? The sticks are *very* consistent and very accurate. Thumb sticks work well but I wish I could get better curves on them. Calibration is nice and doesn't drift once set. All in all, I was very, very pleased with the set and I see someone who takes care of these (ie putting a little grease on the plastic every once in a while after use) and keeping them clean and dust free getting, many, many years of use out of them as a primary control set... and once you move up to better sticks, being able to use these as a solid set of backup sticks or for having a second gaming station for friends to use when they come over for a visit.

I was running Saitek's X45 HOTAS for mechwarrior back around 2004 or so. Used it for star citzen until about last year. The electricals got byorked due to age and power would flicker off and on and randomly give maxed throttle position inputs, a little hard to low fly or dog fight with that. I loved that HOTAS setup simply because of how long it lasted for me, and the memories with time. I have since moved up to twin NXT's. They've made low flying on planets and dog fighting much more enjoyable. If they last half as long as the old X45's I'll be pleased with the value they've provided. I've got a little cash put aside for some higher end gear for when I can justify it to myself by playing more frequently. For now I'm just pleased with how HOSAS feels.

I've been using a set of "GNX EVO Omni Throttle w/ SCG Left Premium" and a "Gladiator NXT EVO ‘Space Combat Edition’ w/ SCG Premium Right grip" for over a month now and... Well VKB needs to work on their product names, but, I am very satisfied with them. Other than to say, I ended up going for the 45" tilt "omni throttle" variant for my left hand, over the straight up and down version, for a more intuitive throttle feel for my simple brain to more easily grasp the complexity of space flight. And I would recommend the slight increase in cost, for the more intuitive set up. Beyond that, my thoughts align with what was said so no need be redundant, HOWEVER. I think a few aspects were glossed over in this review. One being the depth and complexity of the software. If you follow VKBs start up guides, it will go smoothly and simply. Yet, what I feel sets these aside from other sticks in the "sub $1,000 a set" category is the ability to customize every input in every way you could think of. It is NOT user friendly however, most of the modifiers do not have explanations of what they do, so you'll have to do some reading to know not only what you're looking at, but, how to take advantage of it, but all of this is to say, the functionality runs deep. And another point missed that I see value in, is the additional modules VKB makes, that can be integrated directly into the base of these sticks by removing the side panels and plugging them into the sticks board, to make one larger device with still only needing to run one cable. Although I haven't tried these modules, if these sticks hold up over the coming months, I look forward to getting even more capability out of these sticks, when I upgrade the bases with additional modules, and will be able to bind all necessary control binds, and will be able to forget the original key board based ones for good. A set of Gladiators goes for about the same price as a single complete Virpil. Although you can't expect full metal construction, for half the price I feel as though you get well over 90% of the features. Once again, very satisfied with my purchase, and, have no problem recommending them.

I recently got the t16km dual pack as my first step into dual sticks, or any sticks for that matter, for star citizen. Always had virpil or vkb as an endgoal setup when/if I got used to sticks vs kb&m. First 2-3 evenings of flying was just trying to wrap my head round what axis does what, after roughly a month I am feeling more at home with sticks and I am noticing some issues with the t16km's, specifically the VERY pronounced and harsh center bump. You might as well use keyboard to fine adjust your heading or aim.. I have tried the cable tie mod to the springs on the sticks, amd while it significantly reduces the bump, it only results in drifting and I cannot calibrate it away. How does these vkb's compare to the t16km's in relation to force required to move them and the center bump? Now that I feel more confident in dual sticks, I am annoyed over the lack of control and precision with the t16km's.

I'd bought the standard edition Gladiator NXT when it first came out and have about 300-400 hours in, maybe more. It still centers exactly, and I mean exactly(!!) to the point and so far I've never had to put in even a small artificial deadzone. It even survived my own stupidity on one occasion, when I was rather "forcibly" dismantling the grip due to what turned out had just been a software issue which now has been resolved, thanks to the support guy who sent me a beta driver. That and apart from the slighty bent base plate, which isn't an issue using a mount or a small screw clamp (though they surely would have sent a free replacement, had I asked for it) I've never had any issues. Coming from joysticks of wider known brands and even similar or higher price range, it's precision, feel and sturdieness, not to mention the exchangeable buttons and hats etc., should one break someday, truly is a game changer and my next stick will very likely also be a VKB one!

I've had mine for around 2 years and it still functions like it's brand new. I've got over 2,000 hours in DCS with it. I've used it in Star citizen but mainly have stuck to mouse and keyboard since at the moment I've only had a hotas setup paired with a virpil mongoose cm3. HOTAS is less than ideal for 6 degrees of movement. I've upgraded to a gunfighter mk4 ultimate and need to buy a left handed grip for the NXT. I can see me breaking it eventually in Star citizen as you have to use quick change of directions for front, back, and side to side thrust inputs. A real flight Sim like dcs doesn't really require quick, constant, and abrupt changes of direction so I'm curious to how long it will hold up. My NXT premium has most certainly served me flawlessly. It's very precise for a cheap stick with very direct and tactile hat switches and a pretty great analog axis

I've been using a pair of those since december 2022. Never had an issue with pretty intensive usage. They offer a lot of binds, are very comfy to use on the long run and are a nobrainer at this price point, beating the T16k by a mile. I'm moving up the foodchain this month for a pair of Virpils WrBrd + Constellation Alpha because I want more precision and more options, the plastic base of the EVO gives a rugged and "sticky" feel and I want a less pronounced center bump. It doesn't lessen the fact that the VKBs are an incredibly good value option for midrange simmers that don't want to spend 1k on their joystic setup. Enjoy.

I've been eyeing these for a while but going from the North American website to the Australian website there is a nearly $100 mark up on top of the conversion rate. $165 USD = $246 AUD The price listed on the VKB Australian website is $325 AUD + shipping on top of it. If its Australian stock I understand that there are import fees but I'm not sure if it even is, or if it's a bit of a money grab with the price jump.

I know pilots that liked the NXTs and they have companion control panels you can bolt together to make a whole custom control bar. The software is about as powerful as VIrpil's and some support color coded layers so you could have hundreds of controls. Like the higher end stuff, you are expected to open them and mess with things and they sell parts and upgrade kits for some things with good guides on their YT channel. I bought the Gunfighter 3's with the Kosmosima Pro grips and love them, and the Omni grip made them even better. The Pro comes with parts to let you mod the grip buttons and hats and all the cams/springs available are included. IMO if you can't get Virpil for some where you live due to import issues or cost the VKB lines are a great meeting in the middle for a step up from basic gear and touches into the important features of the high-end stuff like metal parts and mag sensors with serviceable assemblies on the top lines.

Thank you for giving these a look. I've been following VKBs development of theri NXT ecosystem. looking forward to what their full throttle may look like someday. All that said, you mention that these besides being a great kit if it is what your price point can manage, that they are solid "interim" kit. Besides the Virpil sticks or their new Metal kit, what other options come to mind? I only ever really see VKB or Virp being talked about so I'm curious if there are others that might be higher "quality" ie metal, but not as much a hit to the bank. I'm Canadian in BC, like yourself if I remember right, so currency exchange and import/duty can be ouch.. especially if UPS gets their mits on an order. I'm disabled with ptsd an few other things so for me it really becomes the cost/performance balance given my income and limited or at least how lengthy a time it can be to put the $ aside for something at times before being able to go a head with a purchace. Ideally I'd quite love a set up like your own at least configuration wise, my current ancient Ikea desk just doesn't have the room for me to have two sticks, keyboard, mouse and my G13 on it all at once lol. Waiting for VKB to release TECS, as the thumb joystick is precisely what I need for strafing. I thought about getting the NXT with Omni/Gunfighter...so tempting...but I prefer the traditional sliding throttle, which means I'll have to wait a while. I've modified the TWCS to be as good as it can get and that will have to do.

@noob I don't actually think there is a hard detent (or detent at all, soft if anything), I think what you're experiencing is a mismatch in the dampeners, because the Y axis actually had TWO dampeners with 2 SEPERATE adjustment screws, one on the top half and one on the bottom half, causes a shift in resistance as you pass through it if you only adjust one, this can make it feel like it has a harder detent than is actually there. I have a hard time telling center without a spring on my left Evo omni throttle, because my resistence on both are very similar to each other. I honestly didn't think there is any detent and just the springs returned the stick to neutral... I could be wrong though, I'm sure you have much more experience with this sort of thing... There is, however only 1 dampener on the x axis, so only 1 screw and 1 resistance level to adjust and no change in resistance moving left to right as there is front to back. Anyway, great videos! Love to see vkb get the love the deserve and you have to push them for more info on their dedicated throttle we are all salivating for!

Awesome review, I agree more or less with everything you brought forward. I myself decided to go with these sticks (my left is the omni throttle version though) for the simple reason that, I had been away from SC/Elite and really any flight sim for quite a number of years, probably since 2016-2017, and I wasn't 100% sure if I'd stick to it long term. Value for the money with the evo's is great. They're far an above the general entry point with the thrustmaster t16000's for example, they feel decent, and get the job done. Another thing I appreciate with the evo's is the modularity. I can very quickly and easily change out the analog stick for example to a hat if I want, or if down the road I want to upgrade but without having to purchase an entirely new set, I can simply get the gunfighter gimbals and transfer the grips. I agree they're nowhere near as smooth as an all metal gimbal with a cam to your liking like par with the virpils, but for what they are, they preform perfectly fine, and I'll use these any day over my old 16000's or even my old warthog Hotas. I also quite appreciate their software and what it can allow you to do with the sticks and how customizable they can be. Like making the analog stick function as a mouse so I can click on switches in the cockpit on the fly if I want to do so without taking my hands off the sticks to hold F. As always great video, great insight, and most importantly no bullshit to be found haha Cheers!

@@NOOBIFIER1337 I have to say I love it. All the benefits of a stick, but in the feel of a throttle. Typically most throttle have all their buttons/switches on the base, in this case they're all available (minus the very few obviously on the base with the VKB's) on the grip still. You get access to all the axis just like a normal straight stick, but in a very comfortable neutral position for the wrist. I would say the main thing that will throw some folks off, it did me for a couple hours, is the twist action if you use it. Instead of the typical twist left/right feel, it's a twist up/down now as the grip is angled side way. Another thing I like, and this may lead me to getting an omni right, is how the leverage works on the base. The grip sitting technically lower, I noticed when not mounted, I had a lot less occurrences of accidentally tipping the base to the side when making any stronger aggressive movements on the grip to the left/right. The biggest aspect for me though is, as mentioned, how neutral it keeps your wrists, it is extremely comfortable like that for me personally. To add to this, as you mentioned in this review, you can also lock the axis with the plate and use the clutch tension to basically make yourself a true throttle but with the benefits of the buttons primarily being grip located, for those that prefer that sensation.

One other point about the materials of the stick, and they don't advertise this enough on any of their pages, so you aren't to blame for missing it, but all of the mobile components in the base aren't just made of durable ABS, but fiberglass reinforced ABS, making it considerably stronger than normal plastic, allowing the sticks to bear more force than their less expensive counterparts, although metal would still be stronger.

Since my Evo had two sets of grip screws (one longer, one shorter) and VKB advised to use the shorter ones, this is what I did. Never had the grip feel like it would separate and it's been on there very solidly since I got this stick back in March. And that's with an hour or two minimum of daily use. All in all, this thing feels rather solid to me (KG-12/WW2 grip) and, from an end-user perspective, I'd put it up there with my MS SW FF2 when it comes to build quality and materials used. And my FF2 is still in perfect condition after well over a decade of regular use. The only things I miss about the FF2 is its ability to disable spring force on the fly by removing my finger from the FF sensor on the grip and its ability to be used on the desktop without any sort of velcro or other aid. Its large footprint and high weight made that possible. The Evo's base is neither heavy nor large enough to stay stable under all conditions on the desktop - I had to "nail it down" to my desk with velcro before I bought a mount for it.

Looks like a pretty decent stick for the money. Virpils look to be much more solidly built, albeit for more money (I have two Deltas at present). As I've mentioned before though, I want the stick itself to act as a joystick (i.e. spring-centered), but I _really_ want some sort of throttle control* _on_ the stick. Having it on the base is mostly useless, because you need to take your hand off the stick to use it. Having it on the stick means that you can instantly set it to whatever value you want, without your needing to hold it there. Star Citizen speed limiters and mining lasers (not to mention accel limiter) benefit greatly from this. I have a theory that joystick manufacturers refuse to add this to their sticks, because they feel it would detract from their throttle sales. But if one did, they would immediately win my loyalty. If a manufacturer made a modular system that would allow me to attach whatever controls I wanted in a fixed set of places on the stick, even better. *Slider, rotary control, or single-axis non-centering thumbstick, whatever...but it should be operable with one thumb, should operate as an axis/analog control, and should stay where you set it.

I highly recommend finding a button template for each stick and printing them out to place under your monitor so you can keep your binds straight as you're learning. Also, HCS is relatively cheap for a solution that can offload a lot of the commands so that you can keep your hands on the sticks. There is also that the sticks themselves are so inexpensive that simply gluing them has minimal risk. If you break it or it fails, just replace

After wasting money on two t.16000m's only to find out they have a massive center bumps, The tflight hotas one/4 controller with the rudder pedals is the best for starting in my opinion as they are great for console and have a smaller bump, though I personally recommend finding a stronger custom spring for the rudder pedals and also suggest buying third party parts for the throttle if you hate it's INTENTIONAL center bump.

Bit late to the game but I bought a single T16000m years ago when they were priced much cheaper, amazon ca tells me I payed December 1, 2014 Total $57.48 and this is in CAD not USD and played elite dangerous for years with this stick daily for hours doing combat in my vulture and some space trucking etc its still works great, uses the same Mars sensors and was the defacto best entry stick to buy...the issue is because they were so popular the price of these skyrocketed over the years...so my point is if you can find some used t1600m for like 20$ or 40$ cad they are still very much worth it.

The sticks I wish I got, instead of my still unopened T16K sticks, as they seemed like a great alternative to the super-budget end. However, I do have very big hands, and I'm rarely able to try before I buy.

Dang so that means I can't attach this to a z grip to make it more like a throttle? Cause that would be awesome.

You can, I will be doing a review on that in the future. It IS an option

Their Z grip is called OMNI THROTTLE and yes you can use a left hand one with the x axis locked (or not) and no spring on the Y axis for throttle input that stays where you put it and still have twist for up/down 6dof

I own the old NXT without the dry clutches. I have played through the entirety of TIE Fighter's DOS CD rom edition on medium difficulty plus many bouts of X-wing vs Tie Fighter, Descent, Overload, Rebel Galaxy Outlaw, Freespace, X-wing Alliance, Project Wingman, Ace Combat 7, etc. and am currently going through Wing Commander and expansions with it. Some of these games are much harder on a stick than Star Citizen (the TIE Fighter/X-wing games in particular necessitate to yank the stick in opposite directions to evade enemy fighters and Wing Commander uses an afterburner slide that also requires to yank the stick very hard in one direction) so any worry about solidity is misplaced, the bump compared to old CH Products sticks is negligible and frankly I never minded it in the first place.

Started with dual T16000's... Great sticks until the twist issue hits. Had 2x Gladiator NXT EVO's for a few months now... The difference is amazing. What's next ? We will see, but I'm hoping my EVO's will last 2-3 years. Great video as per NOOB o7

Would this be better than a x55? I’m looking to go dual sticks but I have (big hands). The x55 I have is before it was sold to Logitech but that doesn’t really matter. TIA

I have had no problems with my NXTs. Much better Sticks that the 3d extreme pro. I could not afford the really high end sticks. I love that I can buy any part to fix my stick. What I understand is that I can upgrade to the Gun fighter base. Then latter get a gun fighter stick. I am not sure if it is worth upgrading like this so any thoughts you have on piece meal upgrading would be very helpful.

How bad is this middle hump? I tried out the thrustmaster t16000m and it's middle hump was extremely bad for precision. I was very interesting in this stick but not if it has the same critical flaw for near center position accuracy.
