Very relatable video. I have lived in Jersey City for nearly 60 years so the evolution of Route 440 in this area is something I've experienced firsthand. I enjoy all of your content!

route 440 never existed to link up the OBC with 287 a maze of roads had to be taken and many neighborhoods destroyed just to make 440 happen called the east west freeway back then

Another great ride from Mileage Mike! My nickname for the West Shore Expressway is the Garbage Dump Expressway because there used to be the Fresh Kills landfill which has been closed and transformed into a park with the garbage mound hills. Those mounds have been covered with plastic and several feet of "clean" dirt and native grasses and trees have been planted.

Ah yes I remember seeing those ships with huge mounds of trash headed to Staten Island in movies back in the day.

I’ll soon call it part of Future I-287/New York Metropolitan Beltway once I find a way to re-Re-REPropose the Long Island Sound Tunnel connecting to other side of I-287/Cross Westchester Expy. I think you know where this is going. Hint: Seaford-Oyster Bay Expy. & Jones Beach.

@@MileageMikeTravels You haven’t really experienced it unless you’ve passed it on a summer day and had to close the windows and put the inside air on recirculate or else you’d puke. I haven’t this trip in years since I started going straight through the city. I remember trying to avoid this and SI Expressway traffic by driving around the other side of Staten Island after the Outerbridge eastbound. Very, very bad idea. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

@@mattyian1208 yes. Yes it is. Exit 13 will eventually be Bayville Rd. Since I-287 in NY is numerical. Thus, a total of 110-123 exits solely in NYS/NRS.

That one stretch of Route 440 between Bayonne and Jersey City seems to be awfully circuitous!

That connection between the Bayonne Bridge and Jersey City didn't exist back in the day. When they finally made it connect it ended up like it did.

That stretch of 440 in Bayonne used to be Route 169 back in the day while 440 itself used to be part of Kennedy Blvd in that town.

This one might be unique in that not many highways (State, US or Interstate) leave a state, pass through another one, and re-enter the original state; as a state highway, it technically changes names (from NJ 440 to NY 440 to NJ 440 again).
@MrShortWhiteGuy

There is one other in NY that does that. PA 426 becomes NY 426 for 13 miles, then goes back to PA 426.

Nice. Although these is a part of NJ-440 you didn’t do. And that was at the end of I-287/Future New York Metropolitan Beltway & NJ-Tpke./I-95 where it drops I-287 & NJ/NY-440s truly Being. Also, the S89LTD. Bus goes from Eltingville-Richmond Ave./Hylan Blvd, Staten Island, to Bayonne-34th St Light Rail Station, NJ.

NJ grooves in NY! Quite rare! And will you hit the Glassboro Area and Pennsvile Area Soon and will you do the full route of FL-528?

10 minutes to the Verazanno my ass. From that point on Thanksgiving Sunday, minimum 1 hour. Nice to see they finally painted all these bridges. I don’t think I’ve ever taken the Bayonne Bridge, maybe once. Makes very little sense to leave Jersey and go back to Jersey. Kars 4 Kids billboard? The one good thing to come out of the pandemic, I didn’t have to hear that damn radio commercial any more.

How far out in advance do you plan your trips as to what cities and roads you take? (I've really enjoyed your videos since subscribing to your channel.)
@MileageMikeTravels
@MileageMikeTravels Год назад
I usually plan to go to certain regions and in advance have intentions to film the major cities and well known highways. However once I get there and see some things in person I may end up filming some things that I wasn't aware of or knew the significance of from studying the maps beforehand. I've always studied maps and geography for fun so I have a general knowledge of most areas already.

@@MileageMikeTravels you should also do the entirety of the L.I.E./I-495. Or as I like to call it: “Cross Long Island Thruway/I-96 also, the entirety of I-87 & I-90/NYS Thwy. You’ll really see how, just going 20-30 Miles north of NYC, it feels like Oregon or Washington.

@@MileageMikeTravels If youre still in the NY area. Do the Grand Central Parkway. They basically rebuilt LaGuardia Around the Highway. It feels like youre driving through the airport. They also redid a major 3 level interchange with I-678 and its as modern as NYC highways get.
