An artist spotlight featuring a talk by a new artist to our Habatat Family, Sean Augustine March. Born and raised in Upstate New York, Sean Augustine March is a self-taught artist and 3D designer. March first experimented with glass in 2010 with some first attempts to repurpose discarded mirrors.
The versatility of the material, and its visible interaction with light, inspired him to focus exclusively on his sculptural work starting in 2013. Working primarily with dichroic glass, March takes advantage of light as a sculptural material and explores how it affects viewers’ perception. As light passes through the dichroic glass´s embedded metal particles, it reflects colors spanning the visible spectrum. March meticulously plans each work with a subtle minimalistic approach highlighting these vibrant optical effects. As a result, he creates elaborate and striking landscapes of light and reflection, exploring new optical effects of glass and phenomenological theories along the way.
Habatat is the oldest and largest art gallery dedicated to the medium of glass in the world.
