Found this all these years later and it brings a tear to my eye. This is living proof that Sports brings people together! Rivals like Boston and New York, in any sport, are people after all and we all know what it's like to feel hurt. So to see this wonderful example of solidarity from New York to Boston is just so heartfelt! Thank you New York and the Yankees from a Boston gal. 💋⚾️💜
As a Yankee fan, I'll always have words about the Red Sox. But both cities are now bonded and united in strength and patriotism forever! #BostonStrong 🇺🇸 #NewYorkStrong 🇺🇸
This shows what a great sport baseball is, because of the fans. This show of support from New York for their bitter rivals, then the ovations that Boston gave Jeter in his last game there. Respect for your opponent is character revealed.
4.15.23. Ten years have passed, and we are stronger than ever. It feels like it was just yesterday. Man, does time really fly. Ehile I may have only experienced it through a television screen, the bombings affected my life in ways I could never imagine. I remember everything from that day, even all these years later. That day, I learned my most important lesson, one that would impact my life greater than I had ever imagined. I learned the true abilities of the human psyche, both of how awful it can be and how amazing they it be. I learned about violence, hate, and terrorism but also love, community, and strength. And while I didn't know it then, this pushed me towards a career in medicine and torwards the hospital and city I grew to love as a pediatric cancer survivor. Without the events of that day, I don't know what I would be like today or if I would have as much thrust as I do now, fighting every day until every child is well. Ans as the great Big Papi said, "You don't mess with our f--cking city." #bostonstrong 💙💛
Let's face it...we love the rivalry...both sides. If anyone understood what we were going through at that time it was New York. Thank you Yankee fans for singing along with Sweet Caroline (I know you hate that song 😊).
As a New Yorker and a Yankees fan, it's sad to see the low class and heartless people who gave this tribute to Boston a "thumbs down". We might have a rivalry on the field but we're all Human Beings first and foremost. May God Bless the people of Boston and help them recover from this tragedy soon!
@@Betis91 y’all literally haven’t one a championship trophy in the 4 major sports in over 10 years with double the teams what am I dreaming about fucking losers lmaooo
@@finbarmaguire5668 It was the idea of a technician who worked in the sound booth at Fenway park. It was several years ago, and has been a tradition between the seventh and eighth innings of each game. I don’t know who it was, but it has become A beloved tradition ever since. Why are the sports teams do it, I have no idea. But up here we love it.
I bleed black & gold (Bruins) but if I didn't it'd be red & white. I've been a Red Sox fan since Carlton Fisk & Thurman Munson played (the rivalry was so awesome then). My daughter once asked me what would happen if she liked the Yankees (joking around) & I told her she'd have to move out (kind of joking lol). So, to the Yankee fans who actually sang, when I say you still bring tears to my eyes to this day for singing Fenway Park's attendees part of Sweet Caroline I hope you know how much gratitude is behind it.
Thank you so much for your kind words, rccvcc. I walked by the memorial site the city set up after they reopened Copley Square and Boylston Street. I never cried so hard; my family has been in Boston since 1903, and this was someone coming and invaded all 89.6 square miles of my home. Thank you, Yankees and the people of New York City!
I'm a yank fan from ny. They could've said we are playing this in tribute etc. maybe even the players wear the boston hat for an inning. They just played it and most of the fans weren't involved.
Yes, I'm a Yankees fan and this was a great gesture on the Yankees part, showing love when it was so needed. We are rivals, not enemies. God Bless the American people.
Thank you. This was a truly classy act by the Yankees organization. One question. As someone with tremendous respect for Jeter and Sheppard, why did they go to some rap video style intro for him today? Jeter himself looked pissed. He requested Sheppard's recorded intro be used for his at-bats. I'm happy to see Jeter back in MLB, but I was just baffled watching that. I respect the Yankees as an organization, but I just don't understand why they did that.
How about that Neil Diamond is a native New Yorker. If you wont do it for Boston, do it for that reason. As a Bostonian, I think Fenway would play New York New York if the situation was reversed
Neil Diamond was in 1977, four days on Tour in Netherland.there were problems with the Hammond organ (110 Volt America-Europe 220 Volt) I'm approached by Lou van Rees Management for a solution to my Hammond Rent. After four days I got my B3 Hammond returned with Fire spots of @t frustrated me.They have me removed me from the Neil Diamond Fan Club because I had this listed on their site.Never Excuse of Neil Diamond ;-(
I had just turned sixteen at the time of the Boston Marathon bombings. The Yankees are amazing people to pay tribute to those who died by playing their bitter rivals song. You'll never get Manchester United playing 'You'll Never Walk Alone' in honour of the Hillsborough disaster since they sung so many disgusting songs about our 96 murdered fans until it came out 21 years after the crush in '89 that we told the truth the entire time
At the Boston Marathon in 2013 (the day before this video was recorded), two men (brothers) set off two homemade pressure cooker bombs at the finish line of the race. The attack killed 3 and injured over 260. One brother (Tamerlan Tsarnaev) was killed in a police standoff shortly after the bombing and the other (Dzhokhar Tsarnaev) remains in prison on several life sentences.
Growing up and into my mid 20s I HATED the Yankees. Over time that hate dissipated … as much as I might still root against the Yankees ON the field … it’s easy to respect them OFF it.
funny.. no new york fan singing.. must be nice to think you are the center of the universe. and you wonder why nobody cheers for a low class team. I am Detroit tigers fan. and I will still cheer for the redsox. over the Yankees. And I like playing the Yankees in the playoff. it is a rest day for the tigers
RU-vid was not around during 9/11 but, the assholes who attacked my city were going to attack your city and we would have stood behind 100% should something have happened. Thank God nothing did.
