I've been applying since 2019 and only recently did I experience any sort of response. so i don’t live in new york but i agree with the apply and let it go part!! i applied for housing 3 years ago and just heard back from them a few weeks ago. my mom was just telling me i should apply and i was like, “i already did lol. i’m like number four thousand something on the list the last time i checked.” then boom .. not long after that, they sent me an email!

Hi, I applied for many affordable housing apartments via Housing Connect. I was contacted for an apartment in Greenpoint Brooklyn. They requested a sh*t load of documents. I uploaded all documents via Housing Connect online and was given the option to go see the apartment, I was fortunate enough to see 2 apartments. After the viewing I emailed the management agent the apartment I was interested in. More documents were requested.. I electronically gave consent to have my credit checked and I am now waiting to see if HPD is going to approve my application. I was informed that there is a back log and that process can take up to 30-60 days. The waiting begins....

Wow! That’s really exciting, congrats! How did you like the apartments you saw? I’m crossing my fingers for you that you get the apartment, having to wait because of the backlog would be so stressful unless you have time before you current lease or living situation is up.

@@HeyitsKimberlee Hi Kimberlee, thank you. The apartments are a new build, so I do love that all is new. Both apartments were nice but the one I choose has bigger closets. Storage is important to me because I've been in my current apartment for 26 years and I've accumulated things. ( This will be the perfect time for me to clean out my closet, sort of speak). I heard back today informing me that my file was submitted to HPD and that the turn around time will be a week 🤞. I'm hoping to move in March but I will be okay with April. I can honestly say that everything is moving quite fast. I initially applied to this new build in August 2022 and they contacted me in December 2022. God is Good!!! I wish you many blessings and I hope you hear back soon as well.

@@SeymourKitty Hi, I was approved for my beautiful apartment on 2/27. I was informed that management would reach out to me within 30-60 days for lease signing and move in details. I'm just waiting patiently. It is nerve racking I agree. Thank you for reaching out.

Hi Kimberlee, I was applying for a longgggg time since it originated in newspapers and then went online. LOL I was determined to move out last year since I was in my Studio for ten years. My development didn't want to give me a 1 bedroom since I didn't have any kids. (remind you I'm 37) Over time, I will get letters stating I made too much at the time or I don't make enough for that development. Then, I recieved emails stating I was placed on the waiting list for each borough. Like 2 in the city, 3 in Brooklyn, 1 Bronx. Last year, I was contacted for 2 in my neighborhood. I've been in my current lottery apt for 8 months now.

Hey Happy New Year, I’m in the same space as you. Been applying for 2 years now. Never got chosen the lowest log number I’ve gotten was in the 2,000s but I didn’t get picked yet. Praying and manifesting that for the new year I get that email saying I’ve been chosen.

The lowest mine has ever been was 16 & they rejected me. 😂 I’ve been applying since 2013 it’s sickening!! All the way back to the old website & still nothing.

Fingers crossed for everyone on this conversation (myself included). How do you find out your log number? I've been applying for about three years now and this is news to me. I personally know five different friends who got apartments through the lottery, so hope springs eternal!

Heyyyy so I’m in the waiting process for the last step…. I had to upload my documents and then the leasing agent sent another email about a few days later asking for more documents to be sent in…. I saw 3 apartments and I chose one. Now I’m waiting for approval from HPD

@@audreyguerrios1217 Sorry for the late response…. But it took about 2-3 weeks before they showed me any apartments. My documents had to check out before showing anything. They will not show you anything if your paperwork isn’t right

Hi Kimberlee, I’m a bit late. I hope you’re in your beautiful new lottery apartment by now 🎉🎉. I was wondering if you applied on the NYC Housing Connect website or by self stamped mail (paper application)? For years I’ve been hearing that applicants get an actual & quicker response when they apply by mail (paper) but lately I’ve been hearing that more applicants are getting responses after applying on their website. I usually apply by mail. I recently started applying via the website. I uploaded all me and my children’s required documents as well. Am I on the right track? Lol

Hi! I will actually be doing an updated video soon to share more of my experience but I’m still in my same apartment. I have only applied through the website so I can’t say if through the mail is better or not but that is an interesting theory. I did hear for apartment lotteries that have been already filled and it’s maybe a year or 2 later, someone suggested to reach out directly to the building to see if there are any openings but I think I only tried that once via email and never heard back. I think having all your documents ready to go on the website is the best way to stay ready!

you prompted me to check out the old website and it turns out I had been applying to things since 2018! some of my log numbers are as low as 466 and 909, but I still have never gotten contacted. I'm sure that will change in the future though. I am thinking I will just apply to any place that I like, whether I fit the income or not. My income changes year to year, so if it turns out my income happens to fall within the brackets when they finally decide to look at my application, i'll be in luck!

born and raised in nyc, have sent out over 700 applications the last 6 years aha. i had finally gotten called back for one and got log number 82! been a lot of back and forth with submitting documents the last 6 months but i finally got invited to view apartments. Now they say im just waiting to receive documents to sign and then the lease. I'm so close it makes me really excited to finally have it work out but until i sign that lease and move in nothing is guaranteed and even now it's still possible that i don't get it and its making me anxious. but im trying to stay calm and patient and positive that it'll work out!

Applied 1/9. Lottery closed 2/7. Got a email 3/6 with a 1700 log number. Now its under review.

I saw this in the FAQ “Within a few weeks after the lottery application deadline, Housing Connect randomly assigns log numbers to all applicants whose applicant profiles (Household Info) are complete.” Also I think housing connect is who receives the application

Hi, Ive applied even way before the lottery closed and my applications still says pending. I also do not see a log #.. is it still too early in the process to hear back?. What do you think I should do?.

Some of mine have said pending for years. The best thing you can do it’s apply and then forget about it. On the new system, this was the only log # I got and I only received the log number after over a year from applying. There’s even some I applied to before 2020 that still say pending

Yes, that’s how long it takes for them to review your documents and the hpd process. I just got into a HC apartment recently and my whole process took about 3 months before I actually got approved & moved into my apartment. Just be patient. Everything will fall into place.😊

I moved into my first lottery apt in 2021in a beautiful building Got email this week to submit my paperwork. For another beautiful building It’s called “affordable housing”. Not low income housing. They don’t ask for documents you should not already have. Also the process may move QUICK. MEANING. You need to have 1st month rent/ security deposit. Your log number may be 1000, 996 may not have documents or down payment. Your video is a tool everyone needs to watch. Then Watch it again!

Sure, it’s based on your income so you’ll see what they offer based on salary. If you see a studio in your salary range, apply. If you see a 1 bedroom with your salary range, apply.

Hi Ayame, did you apply their website or via mail (paper)?? I hear you get an actual & quicker response when we apply by mail but then I’m reading a lot of people are getting responses after submitting their application on the website now. I hope I choose the right method as I find it easier & quicker to apply and upload my documents on the website.

You can submit but generally it seems they create very specific income requirements so you might not qualify

It's only for families. I heard you say roommate. If I'm wrong....please comment below. Meaning you know someone who had a roommate and got an apartment. From what I know it's families only. Unless it's priority to families.

It’s definitely not only for families as I know quite a few individuals who have gotten apartments just for themselves. I can’t say if there’s priority to families because as you see in the videos-they offer apartments based on income and how many people are living there. There’s many units offered that are for one person as well as multiples under one household.

Unfortunately nothing has changed so I haven’t done an update video. I’m at the same status. It really does take that long depending on the building and the requirements.

6 figures more than one person but 6 for one person. They can make it on their own
